Looking back on this English class, I have realized that how much my writing has improved since the beginning of the class. I went from being a writer that was not so confident in writing paragraphs to the writer who can do the fair job in paragraph writing. The fact that I am feeling so accomplished about, I was able to write all my thoughts in the paragraph. The first learning outcome is to watch out for my grammar mistakes in paragraphs. For example, the use of an article like 'a,' 'an' and 'the' in the sentence formation. The other example is how to use proper tense in the sentence. The new skills I developed that, I will always proofread my work so I can catch my grammar mistakes. The second learning outcome is how to structure my paragraph
Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn’t know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It’s a way to express my thoughts and allow others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I know if I continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In addition, the subject areas were not only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences.
I pride myself on being a curious person who always wanted to discover what was happening in the world around me, I would always ask myself why did this happen? How? Which lead me in becoming a creative writer. I enjoy the challenge of making people want to read what I write. I choose the right words to intrigue my readers; it is a pleasure to take them on an adventure, as I can use my pen to sway their emotions with every line I form which lead me in creating my own journal. I am also determined person once I have a goal, I will pursue it until I achieve it. I still remember when our school held a short story competition during twelfth-grade and I told my classmates that I was going to participate. They all started laughing at me saying
Think about your experiences of writing at college. Which types of assignments have you found helpful in strengthening your writing skills? Where do you want to improve your writing? What’s the most useful advice you’re received that’s helped you improve your writing. Be as specific as possible.
When it comes to evaluating myself and if I am prepared for my first college writing course I believe that I am prepared to take my first college writing course. Before joining my ESC 021 class with Professor Kraft I felt that I was prepared and that I would be able to complete assignments without difficulty, but I was so used to the one on one sessions where I would go over the little mistakes or find ways to produce an exceptional essay that I forgot that I was own my own now. Through the short time in ESC 021 I learned my weaknesses and strengths as a writer. I now have the ability to receive feedback and effectively use my feedback to better my assignments.
When I stop to think about the memory’s that I have made during my first semester of college; there are both good and bad pieces or times that present themselves. Often with many things there are gray areas, and writing would fall in there for me. I fortunately understand now that I have times where I can over look many of my writing flaws. Such as sentence structure! This by far was my biggest problem in this class, and I fully understand why. Personally I have times that will type up a paragraph and never notice the mistake. That is until someone points it out to me. It’s almost like my brain knows that something is wrong with it, but for some unknown reason it won’t register when I’m revising my paper. So as a writer I have realized that I need to take advantage of people around me and get their feedback on my essay’s; because
Over the course of this semester, my confidence in writing has improved greatly. In high school, I didn’t really know how to write effectively. I wasn’t really sure what was considered to be “good writing” until I took AP* English. However, even while I was taking this “Advanced Placement” class, I was still trying to figure out how to really create “good writing”. I feel as if this had something to do with the fact that I never really had to work with the rules of grammar intensively. After taking this course, however, I now have a much better understanding of how to correctly use proper grammar. I also improved on using transitional phrases in my writing. I have implemented my understanding of proper grammar and transitional phrases in both my writing inside and outside of this class as a result.
Students may feel too overwhelmed with college work at times, so they try to cut coners by plagiarizing to save time. Students often feel like they do not have the time to do the things they love, and still manage to keep a passing grade. Most students feel very anxious when they think about starting a research paper, or writing an essay. They do not understand that all it takes is a little practice to perfect this skill and make writing easier.Expirenced writers can maintaine a calm composure when writing because they have learned how to mange their time well by learning for mistakes. Taking the time to learn and practice writing will greatly reduce the chances of plagiarism.
From grade school english courses to English Composition I, I have learned something new every year. However, some mistakes that I have made in my writing, I did not realize they were mistakes until my current English course. I soon learned that the mistakes I made in previous
With the winter semester ending, I have been reflecting about my writing English 101 class. In this Semester I studied and learned to write professionally after performing many tasks and assignments. Through basic writing errors, analytical moves, developing paragraphs, introduction and conclusion, I was able to learn to write correctly and even different from what I had written before. For example, in the old days I used to make a sentence by typing: I see it, or I say so, but now I can write without repeating the word I.
When I first walked into class, I had no respect for writing papers or the class. However, as the days progressed and the weeks went by, I’ve slowly gained the respect that English deserves. While it is still fairly difficult for me to formulate my thoughts and turn them into cohesive, well-structured sentences and paragraphs, I now know that most of what I write now is so much better than when we initially started. It is through revision that my writing has improved.
I have learned a great deal about my self as a writer. That I have great potential to write at an advanced level if I can hone my grammar and organization skills. My mind if full of creative and out spoken ways to word certain topics, yet if no one can understand the sentence what use is my writing? I also learned I love writing memorable to the point conclusions as I spent the most time in all of my essays figuring out a witty way to end each with a way of clarity. I also learned how to correct my sentence fragments, how to use commas, and stopping my usage of contractions and “ing” verbs. All these problems I struggled with while in high school, yet teachers simply corrected them and told me to edit in the corrections. I came into college with the rhetorical and critical skills of writing, yet lacked the grammatical abilities to capture A's on my paper.
Loki and I were in our apartment. Outside the city was covered in fresh winter snow, with the temperature getting colder. Loki and I were currently sitting in the living room, Loki and I are sitting on the couch entangled in each other’s arms. The heat on because of the cold.
This chapter has taught me many ways to start preparing for my future. From writing down a career action plan to giving me advice on transferable skills. Like how to be an active listener, computer literacy, effective time management, problem solving, and writing skills. With these skills I think that preparing for college will be a little more easier than it would have been if i didnt get this advice on how to help me out. Each skill takes a big part in students life, espicially mine.
Throughout my high school career, I’ve endured history class after history class; however, I am no history buff. My niche happens to fall in the STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and math. So, my brain prefers to think in terms of numerics--and there I sat--in AP World and US history classes, learning what seemed to me as silly, trivial facts about history, until a particular subject grasped my attention: the evolution of technology and the unfathomable thoughts of inventors. From the cotton gin to the typewriter, the camera to the telephone, the programmable computer to the world wide web, the rage of new inventions always explodes across the globe. And as I always tend to look towards the future, the constant curiosity
All throughout my years of schooling, I’ve had just about, one paper that was about one page long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it was due.
