In Benjamin Franklin’s The Autobiography, Franklin suggests that in order to cultivate this virtue of humility, we should “imitate Jesus and Socrates”; initially, the Christian savior, the great symbol of unfailing love, and the questioning Greek philosopher seem an odd combination, but Franklin’s own life and inner musings about that life ultimately illuminate Franklin’s true meaning, and provide a valuable example of how to balance faith in a higher power with a deep questioning spirit.

Benjamin Franklin was a very important colonist in the Revolutionary War era. He was mainly known for being a Founding Father with many inventions and contributions to the founding of the United States of America; he had helped write the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and the Articles of Confederation, also he helped form the Treaty of Paris, drafted into the Second Continental Congress and performed the kite and key experiment fueling the flame for his interest in electricity. He had lived in Boston, Massachusetts (1706-1718), New York (1718-1721), London, England (1724-1726) and Paris, France (1776-1785) for a short period of time, but Philadelphia, Pennsylvania remained his home for 59 years of his life. Before he was a politician, Ben Franklin was also an inventor. When people think of his inventions, the first thing that usually comes to mind is electricity. However, he did much more. For example, in colonial America, most people warmed their homes by building a fire in a fireplace even though it was kind of dangerous and used a lot of wood. Ben figured that there had to be a better way. His invention of an iron furnace stove allowed people to warm their homes less dangerously and with less wood. The furnace stove that he invented is called a Franklin stove. Interestingly enough, Ben also established the first fire company and the first fire insurance company in order to help people live more safely. Another great invention was the bifocals. Ben had poor vision and needed glasses to read.

Ben also wanted to help others by his marvelous inventions. Ben was very selfless so he helped others as much as he could. Ben was one of the volunteers to become a firefighter and one of his inventions helped with being one. Ben invented bigify glasses that made others see things from far away and close up.

Benjamin Franklin is known best for being the president of the United States or you may know him for his inventions or his writings, but there is so much more to him than just that. He is a man of wisdom and integrity. This is why I chose him as my figure of interest in my research. Franklin's life was full of wisdom and science, as he was a well-known writer, inventor, printer, as well as, a founding father of the United States. I had the opportunity to sit down and converse with Franklin during his time here. With this opportunity, I decided that I would lay out some questions for him to answer. Though Franklin only established a connection with lightning and electricity, it lead to greater discoveries. With all invention there is the common theme of aiding civilization; to make diffucult tasks simpler, but we can't always predict the outcomes.
