Throughout the book, “The Western Place” , by Maxine Hong Kingston, there is a differential gap between the two sisters who come from two different sides of the world. A lot of differences between the two sisters and their personal lifestyles comes from one sister living in America as a Chinese-American and the other sister living in China. In the story Brave Orchid who is the sister that is brave, outspoken, and sometimes cruel sees life as a bundle of opportunities to take with no regret. However, it is different when her sister Moon Orchid comes into town from China because she is the complete opposite. Moon Orchid is rather humble, timid, and quiet while she observes the lifestyle of her sister and nieces and nephews.

Octavia Butler’s “The Evening, the Morning and the Night, delivered a hypothetical scenario of a young woman (Lynn) living with a disorder known as DGD or Dureyea- Gode Disorder, the disorder is largely hereditary and largely destructive causing people to eventually become cannibalistic and prone to self-harm.

“Night” is a memoir written by Elie Weisel. He wrote about his experiences and what he endured while we was being kept hostage at multiple concentration camps. He was taken there with his family, but everyone besides his father was taken away to never see again. So he is going to cling to his family and friends he will make. In this book people can give you the encouragement and hope that you need to keep pushing through tough times, sometimes they will just give you the extra reason you need to push harder and keep fighting.

Night is memoir written the famous author, Elie Wiesel. Wiesel has even won the Nobel Peace Prize. Night is about Elie's experience throughout the Holocaust. The Holocaust is the killing of 11 million innocent people.

Anderson starts out the book by introducing the reader to her interest in African culture,and relates how she sent essays to an anthropological board so she could go to Africa to do her graduate study. She soon realised that she would be unable to do so because

Beryl Markham was an outstanding role model for the women (and men) of her time. In her book West with the Night, she wrote about the great feats she accomplished in her lifetime; nonetheless, she managed to maintain a humble and caring demeanor. Some of Beryl’s positive traits such as her compassion, responsibility, and quick thinking are shown clearly through her various experiences with the wildlife of Africa. We are introduced to Beryl’s empathetic side when reading about a dramatic encounter from her youth with a seemingly domesticated lion named Paddy. Paddy attacked Beryl and faced the harsh, but fair consequence of being caged for the rest of his life.

We live with a certain expectation about the possibility of burying a spouse and even more certainty about out living our parents, however, most of us do not even entertain the idea of outliving one of our children.

West with the Night by Markham is a memoir written in 1942, narrating the author 's experience while growing up with her father in the British East Africa, currently referred to as Kenya. Adventure is the key theme of the book since it describes the writer’s life, which seems to be an escapade from the beginning up to the end. Firstly, Markham starts leading an exploratory life when she is four years while staying with her father a horse breeder and farmer. As a result, she grows up engaging in exciting activities like hunting and playing barefooted with the native Nandi Murani youngsters of the Rongai Valley and Mau Escarpment forest, which makes her encounter several attacks from lions and leopards. Besides, she also gets a chance to undertake spear hunting, tracking and horse riding (Markham, 2015). She further participates in killing dangerous hogs that are found in the region using her spear, which is against the African traditions especially among girls. At some point, she spends sleepless nights sitting around a bonfire with the natives in African bush learning about various cultures and practices in the area. After her father loses his land and moves to Peru, Markham vacates to Molo where she starts a new career as a racehorse trainer. The woman spends most of her time participating in horse competition where she wins and loses some before quitting and joining aviation when it is still new in the expanse (Markham, 2015).

The Holocaust was a mass genocide which killed six million European Jews by Hitler’s Nazi’s that lasted for 12 years. This mass killing event left a mark in history, this was an act against humanity. The book “Night” was a written perspective from Elie Wiesel, who was kept in one of the most dangerous camps with his family in Auschwitz, during the Holocaust. A letter was written by Regina Kandt to her lover while she was transitioning to a camp, and a photograph was taken during the Holocaust of the aftermath of the mass killing genocide. All of these sources connect to the loss of religious faith because everyone had a loss of hope the victims depending on their value of family and their relationships to survive.

The story called “Night Women” by Edwidge Danticat and the story called “The Awakening” by Crystal Wilkinson portray womanhood in different ways. However, both stories are very interesting and convey powerful ideas to the readers. Although the portrayal of womanhood is different, they share some similarities.
