Every morning I have to take the cow (Bessie) out to the field so she can graze. The cat (Storm) normally comes out to the field with us. I was kneeling down and playing with the cat, but when I looked up I saw a few of the confederate soldiers on their horses. I overheard one of the men say that they thought they were going to be sent to war in a few weeks. The cat jumped into my hands, I got scared, so I looked over at them and wondered “why they were going to be sent to war?” “what if the war comes through here and destroys everything?”. I stay put until the soldiers pass by that time I notice that I was staring and that Bessie was done eating. I put Storm down, then pat Bessie’s side and say “come on guys there is more work to be done”. …show more content…
I turn and walk away when I get to the shed and reach up to the top shelf I go to grab the rails. Then i hear something behind me in the corn. I look down at strom her fur is standing and her back is arched, at this point i'm very scared. As I look back up at the corn I see an eyeball. I grab the rest of the rolls, then run back to the house and drop the food all over the porch. I lean against the house by this time I am breathing so heavily, i stand there for a minute to catch my breath. When i catch my breath, pick the rolls up and take them inside. I gave the rolls to my mother then went up to my room and calm down. By the time I calm down mom calls me down for supper. I walk down the stairs and walk into the dining room/kitchen and see momma granny and my papa sitting at the table napkins in their laps ready to eat, i politely say “sorry it took me so long.” momma says”It’s fine sweetheart.” i sit down and put my napkin on my lap. After dinner, I sneak a roll for the person in the shed and put it in the napkin. Then I tell momma that she could go sit down and I would clean the table. She leaves the room and I hurry up and clean up. I pick up the napkin with food in it put a blanket around me, grab a lamp, and run outside. As soon as I get in the shed I open the napkin and lay it out in front of the corn, nothing happens so I say if you eat this I will bring you food every night until you can leave. Then i get up and
America right now is going through a struggle and the decision I have made could fix some major problems in today’s society. With the money that you gave me Aunt Bessie to distribute certain amounts of it to each progressive reforms. I chose what to me is the three most important and also the most impactful. The three reforms that chose were child labor, food safety, woman's right to vote. I hope you’ll understand the reasons that I am about to state will be ok and the right ones.
Yesterday I was at work from sunrise till it was pitch black dark. Today I am completely wrecked and can’t be bothered doing anything but tomorrow and for however long the war goes for I will be at it again and again day after day. The days that follow after the battle are a thousand times worse than the days of the battle and it’s not the physical pain that hurts the most it is the mental pain that leaves the mark. The dead people look sickening but they don’t suffer any pain, But the poor wounded soldiers that still have their life are suffering both physical and mental pain and are living through what some people would call hell. I pray to God that this ferial event will stop. Our Regiment started this morning for Harpers Ferry. I am told with a few others and the nurses to remain here until the wounded have been removed then to join up with the Regiment again. I am expecting there will be another massive fight at Harpers Ferry again soon. My Dear Wife I dream of the day I pass the Hibbards house and see you and Amy waiting outside our house welcoming me with open arms, I also dream of the day I am lying next to you in front of our open fire with our beautiful daughter. You
Bessie makes an interesting point here, I must say. I have a theory as to why this might happen. Before slaves were introduced, most of the people in America were white-skinned -- none of them looked too different from each other. Once the black-skinned people were introduced, the whites saw that they looked very different, and put a tag on all of them, labeled “black.” This sort of tagging is similar to what humans do to identify animals. For example, we know what a turtle moves like because someone made a mapping from a single turtle’s movement to its tag, “turtle.” Now, everyone makes the connection that a turtle is slow. Using the same tagging system to identify animals, connections are then used to identify people who are tagged, “black.” It is an interesting concept. (135 words)
It was the first Sunday of December morning when my father asked me to take some boxes to the basement, I had never been down there, as a kid I always thought it was scary, but know as a 19-year-old guy, how could I say no. I went downstairs with a couple of boxes, but could not find any place to put them. The area was a mess, so I decided that I would organize every box that was there. While I was organizing, I notice this one box hidden in the back, so, I decided to open it. Inside the box, there was a newspaper and a couple of burnt pictures. Therefore, I decided to read the article, I could not understand much, it was an 18 years old newspaper, but it talked about a burning house with two twin babies, It said that one had been saved with no harm while the other one was rescued later on with severe burn mark. It was a miracle that other baby had survived, they called him miracle Carlos, and his brother Richard. I stood there for a second before my brain processed
I was woken up with mom at the foot of my bed saying “Wake up sweetheart wake up” it is a beautiful day in Canada witch is where I live. As I get the gunk out of my eyes so I could so my mother clearly and I ask her what was wrong because she had never woke me up at 5:45 in the morning with out it being bad or something happened to the family. I got scared and my father, sister, and brother came into my room and was saying.“Calm down your going to be okay just pack your clothes, some of your personal items, and some food NOT caned food". Next I was getting ready and Carter my brother came into my room witch he had never done and told me him and dad would protect Kelsey, mom, and myself. As I walked into the kitchen we all picked different kinds of food and water. We started walking out the door and I said "Wait I need my picture of all my friends so i would remember them"so I went and got it.
I was nearly asleep when I overheard mamas voice. Out of curiosity, I snuck into the kitchen. The first thing I noticed that mama was yelling at papa, which is hardly unusual. When I turned my head, I saw a strange man staying by the door with a book in one hand and a suitcase in another. Mama yelled at me for nearly 10 minutes before she reentered the kitchen. Unbeknownst to her, I silently followed. I witnessed mama standing over the strange as he devoured her disgusting pea soup without a single complaint or hesitation. I thought this would make her glad, but she seemed very worried instead. It did not take long for the soup to work its magic, a few moments later, the man was vomiting. I have
It was just another Sunday morning. There were birds chirping, sun shining, people driving fords and Chevrolet's up and down the streets. When I got out of bed and went downstairs I saw that my family had already started breakfast and were all still at the table and talking faintly about something very quietly. My mother noticed me walk into the kitchen and told me that the rest of the family had just finished breakfast and that I could pull up a T.V. tray and watch Sing Along With Mitch with my older brother and sister and that she would make me some “Flapjacks” and be there in a flash. So I went into the den and my brother and sister were there talking and greeted me. I asked my brother why they were whispering and my mom shot him a look saying and he said “Never mind, it doesn't matter” and then I felt that
With all of the cracks in the ceiling of your bedroom, you can see the stars at night and the sun in the morning. With all of the old rotted hardwood floors, you hope to stay in that room until the morning and not end up in the room below you. At night you start to stare around your room as you fall asleep, then you see a splatter of blood on the wall and you get up and check behind the door and see HELP written all in blood. And at the vent there’s tons of blood leading down it. Then you hear a noise come from the room below, and when you go and see whats making the noise, there’s a girl in a chair and shes all tied up. Then you realize, that girl in the chair is your daughter. Right after you untie her the window bursts wide open with
We drove for what seemed hours to my six year old self. When we arrived in the parking lot of the hospital, which I can never remember the name of, he told us why we were there. Lauren threw a fit, screaming and crying like someone was hurting her. She shouted “I never wanted him”. I believe that is still to this day the biggest lie she has ever told. We walked up to the big glass hospital doors, and straight through them to the elevator. I waited and waited for what seemed forever until the big silver doors opened, and my dad showed us which way to go. We walked past room after room listening to the crying and sometimes laughter. Finally, we got to the right room and we walked in. There sat my mother on a hospital bed. She didn’t seem hurt or in pain, but they said it was happening fast. At one point my mother’s father (Poppy) took us down to the cafe, and all I remember is that hospitals have very good spaghetti. My Poppy got a phone call and all of the sudden we were on the move, going through the halls like there was a fire we were trying to escape from. When we got back to my mother’s hospital room, everyone looked so upset; their faces, eyes and cheeks were red and
So we started to run down the street once we got there we went into someone's backyard my dad said “stop” he looked around it was not Chili it was a gray cat and Chili is orange. We ran back and looked in the bushes our dad whispered “shhh do you see him in the bushes ‘ then I replied “yes” then my dad said “ Cale go by the back gate Leah go around front i am going to grab him. As my dad crept closer Chili ran my way I shooed him back, but he got scared and ran all the way around the front and into Michals bushes. Leah and I ran over there and leah went in the bushes but she could not find him so she came back out but she tripped on a weed and fell. My dad took her back to the house but me and my aunt kept looking. We looked and looked but
I feel the same way Bessie did when she said she didn't understand why she would would hear these white people were doing such terrible things to black people. See i'm known for being a flower child, advocating love even if means rebelling against what society wants, I view all lives as equal and I dont discriminate for someone's race, gender, sexualtiy, their background, etc.. Thats not to say I didn't grow up hearing about it like bessie did, and like Bessie, I still hear it today. I’ve just always viewed it as ridiculous to think someone was inferior for something they were born into or something they want.
It was early in the morning and my mom called me down for breakfast “Ben come down for breakfast” she said. I can downstairs to another command “Ben g\o get napkins from the basement” “do I have to” I said then my mom gave me the just do it look which means you should really do it or i'll be mad . When i got in the basement I thought to myself I can’t reach the napkins now can so for some reason i decided to try to get them from on top of a old creaky wood stool. I took a step and almost slipped already due to the dust but i still kept going.
Thank you all once again for your kind reply regarding the funding for Bessie Gaffeny.
The past few weeks have been full of surprises! It turns out I had malaria. I couldn't walk a single step, and I would gag at the smell of food. I was kept at a rich family's plantation named the Jackmans. They had plenty of slaves and the father of the family was a rebel. One day he came over and spoke to me about how the Confederate soldiers were going to get repeating rifles. They were just like Lieutenants Orff’s gun! If the rebels were to get these dangerous guns the war would last at least another five years! I was surprised at how the Jackmans treated their slaves. They were so nice to them that I felt bad for taking them away as a Union soldier. Heifer then came to the Jackmans to pick me up to go back to camp. While I was at camp, I had the
Then we picked up all the bags and brought them inside. My dad started up the grill once we were finished unloading the grocerys. When my dad turned on the grill , it made a hsss sound. I went back inside. My mom was taking the chicken out of the container. I walked over to her slowly. She was pouring out the orange pop into a glass. She then put the empty pop can on a pan. Then she put the chicken on top of the can of pop. She picked up the chicken, arm by arm, the she
