There are many definitions and opinions on what a world view is and its relevance to everyday life. Most agree that a worldview is a way of perceiving God and the world. However, it is much more than that and its implications can affect a person’s entire life. Because of this fact, and the purpose Christians have to worship and glorify God, it is critical to explore the meaning, significance, and even test ones worldview. In order to do so, the definition of a worldview, and the attributes of a biblical world view must be addressed.
What is a Worldview? According to The Transforming Vision, Worldviews are not theoretical, abstract concepts but instead are perceptual frameworks that determine an individual’s vision of life and for life. This

This free will gives us the choice to either serve God or idols. According to Genesis 2:16, “The LORD God commanded the man, saying, ‘from any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.” By placing the tree in the garden and commanding Adam and Eve not to eat it, God gave them free will to choose whether or not to follow and obey Him. Ultimately, when they chose to sin against God by eating the fruit they chose idolatry. This of course answers the third worldview question, “What’s wrong?” In order to truly grasp the magnitude of their sin, one must first address idolatry. In total, idolatry is when a person puts someone or something else above God. In fact, there are essentially only two options in this life: the option to worship God and the option to worship something else. The consequences of sin are catastrophic. Even in the garden there were immediate consequences. Though Adam and Eve did not die immediately, they were punished with painful childbirth, hard labor, and eventual death. They were also forever marked with a sinful nature that they would pass down to future generations. This original sin would therefore give birth to more sin and further break and separate humanity’s relationship with God and …show more content…
His sacrifice on the Cross for forgiveness of sins and resurrection made reconciliation with God possible. This is answer to the fourth worldview question, “What’s the remedy?” In John 14:6 Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” This statement is the ultimate answer to the final question. Redemption will also bring about the eventual restoration of God’s image in man as one day Christians will bear the likeness of Christ. In addition, believers are charged with the cultural mandate of living out their individual and corporate calling while reflecting Christ and His image throughout the earth. This is to take place primarily within a community of believers. Through this community of believers, Christians are to then rule the earth in a way that honors and reflects God.
Synthesis Ultimately, a worldview affects a person’s views on history, politics, philosophy, law, science, the world, and especially God. A Christian’s worldview also affects these thoughts and beliefs, but through the lens of Christ. Because of our Christian worldview, we are to live each day making decisions about what the world throws at us by turning to scripture. For instance, a Christian worldview helps us form appropriate responses to issues such as religious persecution, abortion, media, same-sex marriage, education, and many
Ostrander defines a worldview as “...a framework of ideas, values, and beliefs about the basic makeup of the world” (Ostrander 18). After this definition, he goes on to show the purpose of a worldview, and how everyone has a worldview that shapes the rest of their lives. A worldview explains everything one believes and that is especially important to a Christian.
Philip G. Ryken's book, Christian Worldview a Student's Guide, gives a basic understanding of what a worldview is and what the Christian worldview presents, along with its importance. According to Ryken, a worldview is "a fundamental perspective on the world that shapes the way we live" (Ryken, 2013, p. 17). It is the structure of our understanding, the way we look at life, the framework of beliefs and convictions, and the meaning of human existence. (pp. 19-20). A worldview has so much culture-shaping influence because it is not merely a private perspective but more communal (p. 21). This is especially true for the Christian worldview because it connects all believers everywhere. Ryken explains that a properly Christian view of the world engages the whole person, the body, heart, mind, and soul, and is directed to the glory of God (p. 28).
One’s worldview, as the term implies, represents the, way one views the world and all that exists therein. In the case of the Christian, his/her worldview is shaped by the divinely inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God which serves as the lens or prism through which the Christian views the world and everything therein: and it is through this lens that those profound questions regarding human origins, identity, meaning/purpose, morality, and destiny are seen with a deeply satisfying clarity.
A person’s worldview, whether it is Christian or non-Christian, is often influenced by their experiences. People develop different ways of thinking, as they experience the world
What is a Biblical worldview and how does it compare to other worldviews? These are some of the most important questions every Christian should ask. Just because someone believes in God, their perspective of the world around them may be no different than someone who does not believe in God. The key a Biblical worldview is to study the Holy Bible. A Biblical worldview is a system of personal beliefs and values based solely on the Word of God. The Bible serves as a plumb line of truth through which God reveals His perspective regarding the beginning of the universe, identity, ethics and the future. Three worldviews that consistently contrast with the Biblical worldview are Naturalism, Nihilism, and Pantheism.
Today’s society consists of many worldviews. Most people tend to pull beliefs from different religions, but often stick to one main worldview. A worldview to me is the gathering of beliefs that shape what we do on a daily basis and forms our overall view on life. When I look at my beliefs critically, I am able to see my worldview and see how it compares to different worldviews, but also how it compares mainly to the Christian Worldview.
Everyone on earth has a worldview whether they think themselves religious or otherwise, and a Christian, who has a personal relationship with God, has a worldview based on the pages of God’s word. Genesis begins with an outline of how the world came to exist, and how many of the world’s first events occurred. It is also the breeding ground for the core of all biblically based world views. Questions such as who we are, how and why we came to exist, how we relate to the world around us and the forces which brought it into existence are all answered in the beginning. God has provided for people a vantage point from which to know the cause of existence, sin, and suffering, as well as a hope along with it. The natural world, who we are as people,
Romans 1-8 are a great resource for guidance on how Christians should establish a biblical worldview. These first eight chapters present a great foundation for a Christian worldview. In regards to the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and culture, it provides great insight on how what our expectations should be. Our biblical worldview should be evidenced by the statements from scripture.
In modern America, we will come across a wide variety of worldviews throughout our lives. A worldview is a lens through which every human being experiences reality. However, every individual views life through their own figurative lens, resulting in everyone interpreting reality differently. To be able to see other people’s perspectives in life, we must first examine their worldviews.
A worldview is a set of beliefs that typically have a heavy influence on your view of current matters in the world, society, or even personal matters. A person with a Biblical worldview will typically adopt what the Bible teachers allow what Scripture says to dictate what a person should believe on a certain topic. (Word Count: 55)
The term “worldview” refers to an accumulation of core beliefs, which influence the understanding man has of the world. Because a worldview refers to individual beliefs, everyone’s worldview is different. The Christian worldview is based off of the Holy Bible, and because of that, God shapes the way Christians understand the world around them. However, the Bible is not the only influence that Christians are exposed to, and they must constantly monitor their worldview to be certain that it does not stray from the truth in God’s Word. If Christians are able to identify some key beliefs that are in the Bible, it can make the task of monitoring their worldview easier. The beginning of the Bible, the Creation, is one of these foundational beliefs
What is a world view? A worldview is our philosophy for life and how we look at the world around us. It is our view on things such as life, death, politics and religion. Having a Christian worldview gives a basis of stability and morality, something non-Christian worldviews do not have. From a Christian worldview, we believe that God has created us in His image. Because we believe we are created in the image of God, we have a set of morals that we should uphold. As I am studying to become a teacher I feel that I need to portray patience and kindness.
A worldview is all encompassing to the human being. It determines the very actions, thoughts, and motives of a person. A worldview is not unchangeable or unalterable, but no one can escape the grip and impact of a worldview. Since worldview is so impactful, it must be studied and examined so that it can be better understood. As a people, we must be seeking to comprehend why we believe what we believe and whether or not our beliefs are truly correct. A worldview helps us make sense of the world around us, ourselves, and our purpose in this world. It determines what we believe about our nature, our world, our problem, and our end as humanity. As I have reflected upon my worldview and what that means to me, I have not only come to understand these
Everybody has a worldview and we all can gain insights from our own worldview whether we know it or we simply don’t realize this understanding of worldview or how we see life and the world around us. We also have a Biblical worldview which is based on God’s truth and the Holy Bible that directs our life in the world as it was created by God. They are both very important views in how we can shape our beliefs about God and our creation in life by understanding our insights and our worldview through working hard to live it out as fully as possible is what it means to be a Christian.
world and prescribing how I will live in it" In this paper, I will be explaining the "worldview". In this reflection, I am answering questions like what is a worldview or someone's worldview. I will also share my worldview and compare them to the other worldviews. In this reflection, I will too share how my worldview affects me in my everyday life. Finally, I will share and explain the worldview of Christ. The opening quote describes worldview as a blueprint for reality. Merriam-Webster defines worldview as "a comprehensive conception or apprehension of the world especially from a specific standpoint". My paraphrase of this definition is the way a person sees the world. Someone's worldview can be shaped from birth and some can be shaped by the experiences of life.
