Red Rodney was a famous trumpeter and bandleader in the 20th century. He was born in Philadelphia on the 27th of September 1927 and was known as a child prodigy when he was young (Voce, 2011). At the beginning, Red Rodney taught himself the trumpet and later he went to a school named “Jules E. Masterbaum Vocational” in his hometown Philadelphia to study trumpet (Schwab, 2010). Red started playing with Jerry World Orchestra only at the age of 15 and then he also played with Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey and Gene Krupa (Chesky Records, n.d.). Red’s life was changed because of Dizzy Gillespie, who was Red’s hero when he was a teenager. Red was able to play a gig with Dizzy Gillespie one time at the Down Beat Club and he left Dizzy a lasting impression.

In Webb Garrison’s book he wrote about how during the late 1800’s many people were taken as hostages. Some of these hostages were held for safety. “15 members of the confederate navy were being charged of piracy instead of putting them as prisoners.” Many of public functionaries and prominent citizens were taken as hostages. Some of these hostages were part of the 250 union men. In addition, many families were also taken as hostages. 150 facilities, North and South, had prisoners during the war. Jackie Robison was the first African- American person to play in the Major League of Baseball in the United States. Jackie Robison was the wake up call of the controversy in American Baseball history. Robison was a hero to many, the one man who stood up to play in the major league, were it was then “a game for white mans only,” according to many. He was constantly receiving threats, been yelled at, throw things at and most importantly constant racism towards him. He became a legacy, not only in baseball, but also in the American life. He fought his civil rights, where he confronted and face others who had nothing but hatred.

The innocence projects frees people all the time. That is what happened to Roy Brown. Through the help of the innocence project Roy Brown was released from jail. Through the crime, evidence and the exoneration.

Many LGBTQ teens and young adults all across America are suicidal and have no one to talk to. In this situation, they can turn to the Trevor Project, a 24-hour lifeline for LGBTQ teens and young adults who are feeling suicidal. Many LGBTQ teens are bullied at school and people won’t stand up for them because they don’t want to be bullied. The emotions bottle up and eventually some of them turn to suicide. Instead of going through with it, they are encouraged to call Trevor’s suicide lifeline. I want to get involved in this organization because I think it is important that everyone, no matter how people view them, realize they are worth more than society makes them out to be.

Born to parents who had a strong dedication to their faith, Granville Oral Roberts was born near Ada, Oklahoma. His father preached the gospel and established Pentecostal Holiness Churches, and his mother prayed for the sick and led people to Christ. The family was poor, and his father was a farmer while he pastored a church. While Roberts was in his mother’s womb, she dedicated him to the Lord. Eugenie Clark was born on May 4, 1922 in New York City; she died at age 92 on Feb. 25, 2015. She died due to lung cancer which she had a tough battle for many years. Eugenie started her interest in fish and sharks when she went to her first aquarium when she was nine years old. From there she went to college to study ichthyologist in New York City University. Ichthyologist is a branch of zoology that deals with fishes. Eugenie received her Bachelor of Arts degree where she majored in zoology and her Master of Arts degree.
