I have chosen to write about one of my favorite alternative rock band, Red Hot Chili Peppers from Los Angeles, California. My decision was based upon two things; one being I like the band, while the other was to learn if some of their music is sending the wrong message to our young people. I personally would not consider myself music sappy; never have I really been given a chance to listen to music as I grew up, to find what I like. As of today, I don’t know who sings what song nor really know what the lyric’s mean. With today’s environment young people are given a chance to be inspired by different kinds of media; thus giving them the opportunity to actually find out what the artist is meaning behind the songs. If someone is an alcoholic, has violent thoughts, or passes out constantly, would you trust them? Each story contains gruesome topics based on twisted thoughts. “The Black Cat” is about a man who married a woman and lived with many pets. A raw expression of urban hip hop culture, rap quickly became the sound of African-American anger, rebellion, cultural style, and experience. Anticipated by the ground-breaking work of the West Coast-based Watts Prophets and New York area Gil Scott Heron (whom I worked for at my senior experience internship at TVT Records) and the Last Poets in the early 1970s, the current configuration of rap emerged out of Sugar Hill Gang's 1979 "Rapper's Delight" and Grandmaster Flash's 1982 hit "The Message." Hip hop culture began developing its style and sound in New York party scenes in the Bronx, Brooklyn and other ghetto areas in the late 1970s. By the 1980s, a whole cycle of New York-based hip hop and rap artists emerged to public attention, including Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Run DMC, Eric B and Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-ONE, Tone Loc, Salt 'n'
Atlanta-based rapper Young Thug (real name Jeffrey Williams) was arrested earlier today in Sandy Springs, Georgia for making terrorist remarks. The arrest took place around 6 a.m. and was made by U.S. Marshals who were carrying an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He avoided the police for eight days, but then US marshalls arrested him helping the Dunwoody Police, and he was taking in without incident. He is currently being held in DeKalb County Jail.

From time to time when I was 8, I always heard the same words pop up in my head month after month, “I ain’t happy, I’m feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag, and I’m useless, but not for long the future, is coming….” Strangely, I never commemorate hearing these words, nor knowing that my brother was the one who would listen to the band that would soon become my favorite many years later, but somewhere inside me, these memories stuck with me until now. At random times, I would be doing nothing and I could hear those same lyrics in my head. Fast forward 6 years later and I finally decided to searched up the band, somehow having knowledge of the name, “Gorillaz.” Born on March 23, 1968, Damon Albarn would go on to create on of the most successful
This article discusses the scandal Justin Bieber was involved in with Mariah Yeater back in 2011. She had been said to be the main focus of the song due to her accusations of being impregnated by music artist, Justin Bieber. The theme of this song also highly resembles Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” not just by the way it sounds, but from the outlook of the situation. Each song incorporates a problem with a girl who is in search of their attention. Kendrick Lamar I think when correlating race and social justice with music my brain goes to Kendrick Lamar immediately for a few reasons; he is openly mad about the treatment of African Americans in modern day America, he does excessive community outreach in Compton, and his lyrics combine soulful African music and new age raps about his struggles in an oppressive society. He is the new voice of Compton, filling in big shoes for Tupac and Snoop Dogg. His sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly, explores institutional and internalized racism. Butterflies are beautiful and full of color.
J-rap music is too often mistaken as imitating the orthodox genre of rap, and it’s not. Although, influenced by old-school rap, J-rap is still unique. A lot of rap music produced today is commercial, and the artists are making their riches promoting negative images to the youth of today’s society. At one time, rap music served as a medium to empower youth in a positive way. However, today rap is giving far too much praise to criminal deportment and meantime, while American rappers continue to advocate gangster rap singing about guns, drugs, and sex J-rap, on the other hand, doesn’t. When it comes down to Japanese artist rapping about mind altering substances “beer and marijuana” is in their lyrics, but harder substance such as “crack cocaine
