#Black Lives Matter As Maya Angelou once said, “a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams, his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream, his wings are clipped and his feet are tied, so he opens his throat to sing.” Ever since the end of slavery, African Americans have always had to fight for their rights to do almost everything. They have been oppressed, criminalized and treated as though their lives do not matter. They have had to fight for freedom and equality, and now they are literally fighting for their right to live. Every single life is important and all lives matter, but it is the lives of black people that are discriminated against and under attack, hence #BlackLivesMatter. The Black Lives Matter Global Network is an international social movement that protest against violence and racism towards the black community. It has been working for the past four years to protect and end the discrimination against black people. The movement started on Twitter with #BlackLivesMatter on July 13,2013 after George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin an unarmed African American teen, on February 26, 2012 in Sanford, Florida (Day ,2015). However, the Black Lives Matter movement didn’t become nationally recognized until Michael Brown and Eric Garner, both African American men were killed by police officers.
