Rev. Franklin Graham has urged believers all over the world to pray for Jakarta’s Christian governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who currently faces the possibility of a five-year prison term over false blasphemy allegations.
In a recent post on Facebook, Rev. Graham said Christians need to pray for Gov. Ahok, who is being targeted by Muslims in a blasphemy case because of his faith. The renowned evangelist also noted that hardline Muslims have called for the Jakarta governor to be lynched, The Christian Post relays.
“We need to pray for the Christian governor of Jakarta, Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama, who is on trial for what Muslims are calling blasphemy, which is ridiculous,” said Graham on Facebook. “He's the first non-Muslim governor of the Indonesian capital in more than half a century. They're coming

Graham described Ahok’s situation as the kind of persecution Christians in Muslim countries experience. The Christian leader called for prayers not only for the Jakarta governor but also for his family.
The blasphemy allegations against Ahok come as he is seeking re-election as governor of Jakarta. The Christian governor made headlines when he was accused of insulting Islam in September when he told fishermen in the Thousand Islands that his opponents are lying by telling Muslims that the Quran commands them not to vote for non-Muslims.
Facebook user Buni Yani, who reportedly uploaded an edited video of Ahok’s speech in Thousand Islands, admitted that he misquoted the governor’s speech. On Dec. 11, he faced police investigators as a witness in the high-profile blasphemy case, The Jakarta Globe reports.
The edited video that Yani uploaded was the one that sparked anger among hardline Muslims. Ahok originally told the audience that they have been lied to by those who misquote the Quran. However, Yani tweaked the video to make it appear that the Christian governor said the people have been lied to by a certain verse in the Islamic holy
The Kite Runner has shown the improper treatment of Hazaras on more than one occasion, the first point being the way Assef spoke about Hassan right before he raped him.
Sauer believes the power of prayer is the best way to help others suffering from Christian persecution. He said he believes a lot of discrimination can be avoided by learning more about other religions. In America, some discriminate against Muslims. If we simply understood what the Muslim faith was actually about, much of this would be avoided. Christians being killed for believing in what they preach has always existed, it’s part of the reason the faith is as strong and large as it is today. There’s nothing that will eliminate this issue, but if we all learn and know more about each other's religion, then some discrimination will go away. He concluded by saying we are all children of God, He does not care about race, color, religion, nationality, or social class
Assef’s scathing words towards Hazaras exemplifies the power of words. Words have the ability to heal and hurt, it all depends on how one uses them. Assef uses his words to publicize and propagate bigotry.
“People in prayer Wednesday evening, a ritual, a coming together, praying, worshiping God. An awful person to come in and shoot them is inexplicable,” said Charleston Mayor Joe Riley.
Religion has had a severe influence on society and by looking at the diverse attitudes that Christians employed regarding their religion through time one is likely to observe that many individuals who interpret religion erroneously are likely to put across hostile behavior toward innocent individuals. History has seen several Christians who stood up to mainstream religious thinking and who lobbied in regard to alternative methods of being religious. The cases of Margery Kempe and Martin Luther are two of the most notable examples of Christians who dared to put across their personal beliefs during a time when the Church harshly criticized and oppressed individuals like them.
This article is about a pastor who was arrested on Tuesday in Magnolia. He is accused of sexually assaulted a young girl. The Montgomery Country Sherriff’s detectives arrested him, and they think that there could be more victims, because he let his church from different locations around Houston. The detectives, prosecutors and the MCSO SWAT team raided the Body Of Christ Ministry Church. They apprehended Ronald Mitchell who has 56 year-old. The police found in the house of the church a lot of weapons and ammunitions. The MCSO SWAT team made the arrest and it is held in the Montgomery Country Jail on a $250,000 bond.
Australia, a land that was long bound in superstition and the lower type religions, hosted a Billy Graham crusade and it was able to draw the largest crowd ever for a world Crusade (Smart, 7). Now, none of these actions are bad, in fact there could be a good argument that these are all good things. However, the attitude that all these actions created when they were performed in such a close sequence was one of competition. It made many religious zealots want to prove that their form of religion was the only true one. This has caused much resentment and resulted in a differing approach to the missionary work. When these missionaries could not convince people with words, they resorted to actions. One example of this religious retaliation that America is still suffering from is the mindless destruction of the twin towers on September 11
Part I – Intro: “An age is called Dark not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it.” (James A. Michener, Space) I am here today arguing a denied, avoided, and controversial topic [Christian Persecution]; and, I am doing this so that I can make the increasing amount of attacks on our first amendment rights known. The injustice here is not only the attacks on Christians’ rights to religious freedom, but also because it is ignored. The rights of everyone are compromised because no matter what religion you identify with or even one at all, there is a precedent being set that denying someone’s right is okay. “1,400 documented attacks on religious freedom, at a 15% increase over the past year and a 133% increase over the past five years.”
“It’s persecution when a godly fire chief loses his job over expressing his Christian faith,” he added.
Abedini, who was thrown in jail in Iran for his Christian faith, was released along with three other American hostages in a prisoner swap in January. He has since been reunited with his family in Boise,
In contrary the Abu Sayyaf group has been founded on Islamic religion, having close relations with widely known terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda and ISIS, Abu Sayyaf has always expressed their opposition of the Christian religion. According to Stanford University, “The ASG also aims to expel the Christian settlers who migrated to Mindanao from Luzon and the Visayas, other regions in the Philippines”. FARC does not express their ties in any religion but it seems that they are against any form of beliefs more likely Christianity. According to U.S. Department of State, “The United Pentecostal Church reports that more than 70 pastors have been killed over the past 3 years and more than 300 churches have been closed due to guerrilla
On Monday, the Grand Imam of Egypt’s al-Azhar mosque met with Pope Francis in the Vatican and appealed for worldwide unity to end the bloodshed in the Middle East. Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb said the atrocities should not be referred to as “persecution of Christians” because Muslims make up the largest number of victims, Crux relays.
There is also a hypocrisy inherent in Robertson's mission. Without the freedom of the Internet, not to mention our nation's freedoms of speech, expression, and religion, all of which Robertson criticizes, he could not propagate his own controversial message. In this text, oftentimes explicitly and other times underlying his words, Robertson calls on Americans to: -hate not only those who have terrorized our country but also those who share the terrorists' religion and/or ethnicity -convert every person in our great, free country into a worshipper of and believer in the very same (and only one) god. I think our nation is at a great disadvantage in healing both our physical and emotional wounds and the greater problem of terrorism when our supposed leaders (whether religious, political, or otherwise) are preaching such frenzied, merciless actions.
We read in Habakkuk chapter 3, his prayer it begins with speaking of the immense power our God has. You see sometimes I feel like we just do not realize how big he is. You shouldn’t be walking in disobedience if you have been born again. You should be striving to stay in his word and not faltering from it. In a split second he can change everything for you, for better or for worse, depending on your obedience and allegiance to him. You see you shouldn’t become so easily discouraged by man, they are just humans, we should be more concerned about winning souls for Jesus than the idol things of this world. It is part of what we have been called to do.
standoff).” Islamists claimed that Hamid was behind a “blasphemous bill” because he failed to state the name of the Prophet Muhammad during his electoral oath. Because of his so called “clerical error,” over 2,000 protesters held a siege
