I am writing in response to the border patrol agent position advertised on USA jobs. I am graduating Xavier in December 2016. As a recent graduate from Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of the Arts in Political Science, I am particularly interested in the position as it will utilize the skills I have acquired in pursuit of my degree. The Customs and Border Protection Agency within the Department of Homeland Security is of interest to me because I believe in order to be a strong country, we must have strong protection. Throughout my academic career, I have taken courses in Research Methods, Public Policy, International Relations and Politics and History of Alternative Tourism. Through this coursework, I have learned the importance
In 1924, the U.S. Border Patrol started its service for our nation. Although changes have affected nearly every aspect of its operations from its earliest days, the values; professionalism, honor, integrity, respect for human life, and a shared effort, helped shape the Border Patrol from the early years and they still remain the same today.
To become a Border Patrol Agent, you would need to endure thirteen weeks of training. The Border Patrol is recognized as one of the most challenging curriculums in federal law enforcement. This academy requires you to complete firearm instructing, driving course, integrated law, and a physical fitness test. Any agent not
The U.S. Border Patrol started its service for our nation in 1924. Even though some changes have affected every aspect of the operations from its early days, the values, professionalism, honor, integrity, and respect helped shape the Border Patrol from the early years and they still remain the same today. Since the very beginning agents have been patrolling our borders, “Mounted watchmen of the U.S. Immigration Service patrolled the border in an effort to prevent illegal crossings as early as 1904” (Border Patrol History, web). The agent’s efforts were undertaken only when resources permitted. The inspectors were all out of El Paso, Texas, “Though they never totaled more than seventy-five, they patrolled as far west as California trying to restrict the flow of illegal Chinese immigration” (Border Patrol History, web).
After analyzing many topics I am more anti-immigration than pro. My policy to stop immigration is to hire more agents to enforce immigration laws at the border. Currently the US has a minimal amount of agents at the border. With minimal amounts, the border patrol is missing huge amounts of illegal immigrants which jeopardizes the US security. Increasing our agents at the border would help reduce the drastic number of illegal immigrants entering the United States each year. With less illegal immigrants the US will be able to do more thurow screenings of crime or terrorism with the new numbers of hired agents. With my policy I will enforce a skills screening process too. This will evaluate immigrants on how they can help the United States and
Clare Foran once stated, “The more obstacles that stand in the way, the more perilous it will be to cross.” In today’s society, many immigrants are illegally entering the United States of America by the border of Mexico. Many Americans tend to agree with politicians that people in the country illegally are criminals and social and economic burdens to law-abiding, tax-paying Americans and that illegal immigrants cost taxpayers billions for social services. These citizens believe that people who break the law by crossing the U.S. borders without proper documentation or by overstaying their visas should be deported and not rewarded with a path to citizenship and access to social service since they acted in a disloyal way to achieve the position
Camarota (2007, p.1), a director of the Immigration Studies Center, reports the data from Census Bureau, the United States department of commerce, there are 1.6 million documented and undocumented migrants take up residence in the United States annually. Camarota goes on to say that the immigrants now take up one-eighth of the total population, who settle in the U.S. Namely, the number of immigrant population with rapid growth. In social leap development's today, the flood of aliens, in a significant degree, hinders the development of the United States. Therefore, the issues which relate to immigration must not be neglected and the government should keep the number of immigration from increasing since it reduces the work opportunity for
Borders are ubiquitous; some are physical, others are not; some are rigid, others are not, but all have the same purpose, that is, to prevent two groups from interacting in a particular way. The border that exists between the United States and Mexico is no different, as author Leslie Marmon Silko can attest to in her work Border Patrol State. Even though her work is dated by roughly two decades, her message still persists, perhaps more clearly now than ever, in light of presidential candidate, Donald Trump’s, proposal to construct a multi-billion dollar physical border separating Mexico and the US. This topic is analyzed by comedian John Oliver’s in his piece, Border Wall where he, similarly to Silko, describes the asinine struggle the government
I wish to be considered for an assignment as a Lieutenant within the Research & Legislation Services Unit, Planning Bureau, Administration Section, Administration Branch. It is my understanding that enlisted members of the Research & Legislation Services Unit have the fundamental responsibilities of developing research projects related to short and long term goals, conducting research of law enforcement related issues to develop strategies for advancement, and serve as the Division’s liaison to the Office of Legislative Affairs. Therefore, this Lieutenant must employ several important characteristics in order to accomplish the mission. The following statement illustrates why I believe my experiences in the M.A.P.P.S and Special Projects

The United States of America is plagued by many problems—including the infamous Border Wars waged by highly skilled and trained Border Patrol agents. Forget politics and the belief that we ought to bar people from entering the country illegally or that we should welcome all people. Just know the facts: the border (mostly the southern border) is dangerous—prone to smugglers smuggling in human cargo (often children) and drugs.
Throughout the past two decades the Border Patrol has developed an extensive Strategic Plan that has identified high risk traffic areas that are going to require more support both in technology but personnel. The evolution of the Border Patrol as a risk-based, intelligence-driven law enforcement organization is part of the transition following September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The continued transition is key to the success of not only the CBP but the Department of Homeland Security; while maintaining a positive relationship with Canada and Mexico to ensure international bond. The cooperation was nonexistent a few years ago with Mexico, but with the focus on the borders between these two nations a safe and successful operation will occur.
To better understand where the industry of voluntourism stands today, we must first understand its past. The concept of combining both tourism and aid abroad wasn’t created by one organization or even during one specific time. It has been an ever growing industry that has been influenced
While in today’s world you wouldn’t hear to someone refer to another individual as an “Orient” or “Occident”, we frequently make note of the cultural differences that exist. Some of us will even go as far to place ourselves into new settings in order to better understand those cultural difference. However, our travel experiences are not without repercussions, this being particularly true in lesser developed nations. As such, various cultures are becoming redefined through the tourism industry.
While I was thinking why anthropologists should study tourism and how they can contribute to it, I realized that actually anthropologists have a lot in common with tourists: they both are outsiders who spend time exploring the cultural features of another society. However, more often tourism was seen to be an activity of economics, rather than of people. It happened due to the widespread lack of awareness of the sociocultural significance of tourism.
In spite of the growing interest for the topic, there is still a lack of systematic approaches to this field and a high fragmentation tends to prevail. Besides, also the works devoted to tourism experience focus on the demand side, while there is little attention to the territory as a possible source of experience.
