The era of technology went from being fun and games to social media, ways to talk to strangers, and keep close with family. I think that when people misuse social media it can make something good turn ugly, such as a simple hello to/from a stranger. Putting an opinion online about someone or something. Posting profanity pictures and hateful comments or posts. For something to go viral all it needs is publicity such as likes, comments, and shares, and then it is out there, where someone can see it and take it the wrong way or draw attention sexual predators. When the Boston Marathon bombing accident happened two years ago, a boy from a university went missing. The family used social media to draw his attention and others to help search for
As much as social media has managed to ruin our society, it plays a positive role for the public as well. Social media allowed people to use their networks as a form of reaching out to old friends and family across the world. With America being known as the melting pot of the world, our society has several people with family on the other side of the Earth. With social media in effect, this permits people to stay in touch with long lost loved ones and keep ties tight. Not only has it sanctioned friends and family to keep in touches but has granted people to relocate birth parents and unknown family members as well. Yes, social media has failed our society greatly but there is always a rainbow somewhere after a rainy day. Social media can play a positive role by bringing people back together.
Has social media caused a lot of problem? I think social media has caused a lot of problems. Now these days everyone is on their phone playing or on social media doing something. There is always something someone puts on the internet that should have not even been on their phone or they were bulling a kid on the internet for how they do things. When a kid bullies another kid
The book, I Know Who You Are and I Know What You Did, by Lori Andrews, states that social network as in Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Instagram, Snapchat, and etc. causes conflict in many aspects of life. In today society, social media seems to reveal more a more negative side of the public. Andrews also states that social media is a distraction to every aspect of life including job careers, education, politics, religion, family, and even death. Invading privacy on social media and violating rights of others can cause disturbing commotion and could lead to prosecution. People should use discretion when posting online, and make sure not to post anything purposely offensive or distasteful and graphic content.
Social media can cause a lot of problems in people’s lives. When you are looking for a way to get in touch with your family and friends that’s when it’s good to be on social media. About 75% of people take advantages of social media when they post violent things, bully, or either embarrass someone. They should be bigger and better to think before they do something wrong. People should know when to post positive things and when not to post negative things. It would be better if people just scroll down
The effect of and the role played by the social media during as well as after the Boston Marathon Bombing. It started with the Boston Police Department (BPD) had embraced the social media, because their deputies had been trained how to use Twitter in their daily activities. The BPD drew support from many people who were paying attention to the event through social media. This allowed them to advance the search for the perpetuators. The BPD used Twitter to keep the public informed about reports of additional bombing sites, fires around the city, and streets shutdown (Sylves, 2015; 138). The BPD used the social media to post surveillance photos of the suspects. Social media from the broadcast news station even report a suspect in custody and in transit to be arraigned; however, BPD quickly issues a tweet indicating that no suspect were in custody and no suspect were being transported to the courthouse for arraignment. Within
Every day our police departments work very hard to keep us safe using a variety of procedures that most everyday people don’t know about. These procedures can include DUI checkpoints, interrogations, fingerprinting, and indictments. This paper will go over some of these procedures in a particular case that involved so many different ones. The case I will be discussing is the Boston Marathon Bombing, The local, state, and federal agents worked together around the clock to identify, locate, and apprehend the suspects responsible for the bombing. Also in the paper I will go over what I think the police could have done better or what I would have changed in the situation, then I will critically analyze and debrief the situation.
). In 1935 Charles Myers coined the term of shellshock. When soldiers experienced shivering, fear or constant crying they were considered to be experiencing shellshock. PTSD and Shellshock are similar, but different, shellshock occurred more during combat and PTSD is visible a month after enduring a traumatic incident. For example, the Boston marathon bombing that occurred on April 15, 2013, people who experienced the incident may suffer from chronic (on going) or acute (short-term) PTSD. Some triggers could be loud noisy or even a crowd of people.
One way that social media has helped people is it has worked as an emergency call system similar to 9-1-1. How this system worked was people would tweet out they were in trouble, or need assistance and twitter accounts such as @harveyresucue, during hurricane Harvey, would take the data and compile databases of addresses and names of folks in critical need throughout the storm. Then it would find and attempt to send them help. In the article “Please send help” by Maya Rhodan, Rhodan writes, “‘I have 2 children with me and the [sic] water is swallowing us up. Please send help,’ a woman named Maritza Ritz Willis tweeted early Sunday morning. As 911 dispatchers were not responding, she decided to share her address with her 463 followers and posted a call for help on Facebook. A little over an hour later, she tweeted ‘Got picked up by the fire rescue,’ Ritz Willis shared.” (Rhodan 1) In this article, it shows the effect that social media has already had in times of
Social media can be seen from completely different aspects and points of views. A major role in these different opinions plays mostly the age of the beholder, because social media made an enormous change in the last 50 years. One very important aspect in our today’s society is to get as many information as possible in a very short time period ("Impacts of social media”) Through social media and especially social networks such as twitter and Facebook, the information gets spread extremely fast. There are for example reporters who search on those networks to get information for their news and articles. (“Impacts
