The Bowie vs The Kukri Keywords: Bowie Knives, Bowie knives for sale Bowie Knives or Kukri Knives – which is more lethal? “Comparisons are odious,” wrote the poet John Lydgate in the 15th century. While that may be true, comparisons are fun too, and inevitable. Below we look at two of the most celebrated knives in human history and leave the judgment to you. The Bowie Knife The “Bowie” knife is the quintessential American knife. Invented by famous pioneer Jim Bowie, its legend originates from a bar fight in which Bowie, armed with his knife, survived despite being up against guns. That blade was different from the modern-day Bowie knives and more like a butcher’s knife. The design later evolved to include some standard features, such as a …show more content…
The lumbering blade is twice as heavy as the Bowie but it is one uncompromising, destructive weapon. A sharp Kukri in the hands of anyone capable of wielding it with skill is a force to be reckoned with (Google the exploits of Gurkha soldiers in the World Wars). If your parallel-earth opponent is a quick, lithe individual with a knife of his own, then the lighter, more wieldable Bowie would be the better option. If he is a big, strong giant of a figure, and you are unsure of the damage the Bowie would cause, then opt for the Kukri. Granted, it is easier to stab with a Bowie, but a stabbing stroke is also easier to deflect. Now imagine him trying to parry or deflect the swing of a shiny, heavier Kukri; also, a Kukri strike does not have to be perfect to inflict damage. Bowie and Kukri in popular culture The knife immortalized by Sly Stallone in the Rambo franchise is a version of the Bowie knife. Milla Jovovich’s Alice from the Resident Evil movies has put many a monster to rest with the Kukri. Interestingly, the Bowie and the Kukri appears together in the original Bram Stoker’s Dracula, in 1897. A Kukri decapitates the Count as a Bowie plunges into his heart. Debate hardly

Jim Bowie is an amazing Man because he died defending Texas. He died at the alamo on his deathbed by getting stabbed. His death was a very gruesome consequences for being sick in bed and shooting two of the mexicans. Now if that is not a gruesome death, then you are crazy.
Whereas the Model 1861 and the Colt Army Model 1860 were the premier weapons used on the battlefront, bladed weapons were still in use with deadly force. The most widely used of these weapons was the sword, but only cavalry used this
Two men, Samuel Levi Wells the III and Dr.Thomas Harris Maddox had agreed to a duel and each one of them had brought men along. Bowie was with Wells. After both men missed both of their shots they decided to end it with a brawl instead. Bowie still fought in spite of being shot three times and stabbed with a sword-cane. Jim fought and killed one of his opponents with his famous Bowie knife.
About 220 years ago a man named James Bowie was born. He was born around April 10, 1796 near the Terrapin creek about nine miles northwest of Franklin, Logan County, Kentucky and grew up there. O.J could of used this “Knife” to kill Brown and Goldman. Jeffrey Toobin who wrote a book about the O.J trial said, “A construction worker had found the knife while helping to raze O. J. Simpson’s former home in Brentwood” The O.J Simpson case. The construction worker could of forged the knife and said it was found at the house when it was not, or it could be real the police have to find a reason that it is legit. In the few days Simpson reportedly bought a knife before the murders of Brown and Goldman. Martha Ross from Mercury news said, “Murder weapon was a 15-inch knife with a retractable blade that Simpson purchased at a downtown Los Angeles shop” Samantha Ross. He could of just bought the knife for fun or to murder them, people really dont think so because there was no evidence of O.J having the knife. However the knife that was found by a construction worker could be a hoax but until the police find real evidence Simpson is

One tool that is used as punishment was the amputation saw. Much more cruel than the axe, the saw is slower and more painful than the relative quickness of the axe blade.
The author stated, “The dagger was considered a weapon of last resort, to be used when swords and other weapons were lost or broken” (Document B). Although knights had other weapons to defend themselves with a dagger would be useless in a hand and hand combat. Also a dagger would be used as a last resort because a dagger is a weak knife that is only 3 inches long and, it's not very strong. The author explained, “The samurai’s chief weapons were the bow, the sword, and the spear” (Document C). A samurai’s weapons are very strong even if they aren't the best weapon choice.

Handheld weapons represented a large portion of the weapons used during 16th Century warfare (Iannuzzo). Most commonly used was the sword. Throughout the middles ages, metals were developed to withstand more abuse and thus became more effective (Iannuzzo). The metals now had to strong enough to pierce through the newly developed armor of the time (Revell, "Armour"). The use of carbonized iron, which was heated, beaten, and cut the process repeated many times over to form a solid and durable and lighter than previous swords. The double edge sword was far superior in strength and sharpness of the other swords of the time (Grolier). The 16th century also brought forth the use of flamberge sword that had an undulating cutting edge, that was believed to be able to easily pierce the armor, but was too awkward for battle and was eventually abandoned. By this time the Great sword, sometimes over six feet in length, were being deployed. This sword was deadly only because of the pure size of it. The great swords required enormous strength just to hold and even more to be effective. Eventually the great sword became too awkward to use in battle just as the flamberge. These two inferior swords took a back seat to the smaller and more agile estoc sword. The estoc had a
