Somerville. The study is about the challenge of defining maturity when the brain never stops changing. It has been a subject of wide debate as to what age the brain fully matures or developed. Some experts in the past claims that the brain may have been done developing at mid or late teens (Mental Health Daily, 2016). Neuroscientists themselves don't know when the brain is a legal adult (fully matures). While the law has to draw a line between adolescence and maturity, ranging globally from 10 to the early 20s, different parts of the brain mature at different rates, …show more content…

Someone's cognition, ability to assess risk, and think logically will continue to improve as you age. And despite the fact that brain development may be done by our 30s, it doesn’t mean that someone with a fully developed brain cannot change it. There is considerable evidence to suggest that we can still change our own brains with a process called “neuroplasticity.” Our brains are constantly adapting to our environment, experiences, and other inputs to which it is exposed (Mental Health Daily, 2016).In other to promote healthy brain development, it would be ideal to take advantage of the age of puberty( between 18 and 25) the period when the brain is not fully developed. Engaging in healthy behaviors and giving the brain optimal stimulation will help ensure healthy prefrontal cortex development. People in this age bracket often experiences struggling making an impulsive decision and planning behavior to reach a goal. This is because the brain reward system reaches a high level of activation in puberty then gradually drift back to normal when the person reaches roughly the age of 25. Meanwhile adults over the age of 25 tend to feel less sensitive to the influence of peer pressure and have easier time handling it. Just as there are some healthy behavior that could enhance brain development, other are equally detrimental influences that could hamper brain development. There some problematic stimuli and cenario that could expose one to negative brain development. These include negative social influences, substance abuse such as alcohol abuse, drug abuse, and/or prolonged levels of high stress, poor diet, relationship troubles and sleep problems (Mental Health Daily,
