“Bridge to Terabithia 2” is an example of fan fiction because it has both similarities and differences from the original novel. In both the fan fiction and the native text, one character experiences the five stages of grief. In the fan fiction, Leslie is the one grieving, and in the book, Jess is grieving. For instance, Paterson writes, “‘No,’ he said, finding his voice. Leslie wouldn’t drown, she could swim real good…’It’s a lie. Leslie ain’t dead.” By looking at this quote, we can see that he is showing proof of experiencing the five stages of grief, because he is denying Leslie’s death. Jess even states a reason why Leslie can’t die, saying that she is unparalleled in swimming. The two texts have differences as well. In the original novel,
In literature, there are genres. Two main genres are fiction and nonfiction. Fiction is a work of art that is not real or based on the facts. “‘Fiction’ refers to literature created from the imagination” (“What is the difference…?”). It can explain a story in a different point of view, maybe in a way that is out of the norm. Fiction is basically just nonfiction in an exaggerated way. Though fiction may not be based on the facts, it can still resemblance a sense of real life events. “Fiction may base on stories on actual historical events. Although fictitious characters are presented in a fictitious setting in stories and novels, yet they may have some resemblance with real life events and characters” (“Fiction”). Literature is meant to
The Phantom Tollbooth is a very valuable book, especially when it comes to children. This book teaches children the importance of using their mind. The book is about a boy who is bored, so he uses his imagination to take an adventurous trip to a far away land. Therefore, the author shows young readers that when they use their mind, they are able to go and do anything they want to do.
Recently, I’m reading a book named The Tiger Rising; it is a fictional book, which means all the names, characters, places, and incidents are author’s imagination. And I like to read this book because this book is fictional.
“Bridge to Terabithia” written by Katherine Paterson, explores two different characters and their ability to adapt their own personalities for themselves and each other. People withdrawal in an attempt to perform self-maintenance and/or to protect themselves. “Self-maintenance activity is more than mere habit; it pursues a major goal and is carried on with structures that have become integral to one’s total being. Looking after self has a place of the highest order in everyone’s life” (Stewart, 2009, p. 100). People do not withdrawal out of nowhere for no reason, there is always for someone removing themselves from a certain situation, relationship, etcetera. People constantly look after themselves and if they know they will not able to overcome or handle a situation at hand they remove themselves. Furthermore, “if maintaining the self through withdrawal, one will
All it takes is a little imagination to open your mind. Bridge to Teribithia (Lieberman, Levine, Paterson, & Csupo, 2007) is a story of a fifth grader Jesse “Jess” Aarons who is a lonely middle child living in a poor household. Jess is an artistically talented artist who loves to draw and paint. However, his father disapproves his artwork endeavors expecting him to be more of a man. Jess feels out of place in his family lacking a warm, loving family relationship.
In my reflection of the documentary “The Bridge,” there is a clear difference when a person takes their own life, and when a person chooses to die with dignity. The biggest of these differences was the motive of why one would do it, those who were choosing to take their own life were not individuals with terminal illnesses, suffice to say someone with a terminal illness may choose this path; whilst those who chose to die with dignity were terminally ill and refrained from calling it suicide. Both paths, in my opinion, reflect a strong personal desire to take control of one’s life.
The Bridges and Tunnels of New York City 1. Why are bridges and tunnels important to have? 2. What is the difference between bridges and tunnels? 3. What is the similarity between bridges and tunnels?

The movie is more suitable for younger children, So you want to read a book to a six-year-old child and you pick ‘Bridge to Terabithia’ sure it is a great read but there are words there that the little six-year-olds won’t understand like: peculiar, pandemonium and proverbial they will be interrupting you constantly asking what do those words mean, for example when I read ‘Casino Royale’ by Ian Fleming I couldn’t understand some of the words. However by watching the movie adaptation it all made more sense to me, expect why Vesper had to die in an elevator anyway. The
Name: Mohammad Khan Course code: EAC488SYA Imagination as a theme in “Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson “Bridge to Terabithia” is a very complex story that on a first glance deals with a very simple plot line, one revolving around two children and the everyday problems they encounter at school or at home. However, if we analyze it, we will discover that it is much, much more complex. It deals with a number of motives from family life and the friendship between a boy and a girl and death, among others. One of the main themes that continue to appear at various times throughout the novel is imagination. The children use imagination for various purposes, including how to deal with the problems they encounter and as a means of
“Bridge to Terabithia 2” is an example of fanfiction due to the similarities and differences compared to the original. In “Bridge to Terabithia 2”, the story has a similarity with the original, being that one of the main characters is dying: “Her best friend survived the initial surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma”(5). In the original story, Leslie had died, leading us to believe that this was in a different story line. The anxiety of Jess’ possible death sets up the same depressing tone as the original, until when Leslie is determined not to give up on him which leads us to the differences. During the ending of “Bridge to Terabithia 2”, there was a lot more closure compared to the original, Leslie having lots of time to think
In Inter section and inter connections Keating focuses on only three of the many lessons from This Bridge Called My Back. The three lessons she focuses on are, (1) making connections through differences, (2) forging an ethics of radical interrelatedness, and (3) listening with raw openness. She elaborates on the contributors to This Bridge Called My Back understandings and errors, and suggests possible ways for feminist theorizing to go in the twenty-first century. In the first lesson, making connections through differences I learned that commonality does not mean sameness, it means having the knowledgeable humbleness to know that every person’s knowledges are limited, but also having the power to overlook these gaps and search for connection.
“Bridge to Terabithia 2” isn’t an example of fan fiction because of the diversity of the tone and style. In the fan fiction the author tries to use Mr. Mason to set a happy tone in the story. Mr. Mason says, “In Leslie’s case, however her greatest lesson was also her greatest gift. That gift was her friendship to you”(7). Mr. Mason is informing to Jess that his juncture in return for friendship is dying for her; taking her place of what is suppose to happen. Mr. Mason gives hope to the story instead sadness, which was the tone of the original .
In the community where I grew up folks didn’t read the News Paper to find out what folks had done. They already knew that from the “party line.” They read the News Paper to find out if they got caught.
