In the book Legend there are a lot of problems with poverty. For example in the book Day’s family barely have any money to feed them then Eden gets the Plague and it costs even more money to get the antidote. The government does not like poor people in the sectors. Now the government is putting the plague in the meat so they buy the plague so the government gets the money and the poor people lose money. As you can see from this short paragraph the poor people suffer from not having enough money. In the book legend the government has a lot of power. For example day got a score of 1500/1500 but he was told that he got a 674. The government is very powerful and it treats their citizens unfairly. For example they infected the poorer sectors with
In this society, everyone was deemed equal to each other so no one could find out new things or talk about the past. No one was allowed to think as an individual. They had to use the word "we" instead of "I". Everyone always had to be in a group and male and female worked apart from each other. In the novel, the government chose who went with whom and whom they had to mate with. They couldn't choose because than they would be punished and be sent to a corrective center (jail/prison). No one rebelled because of this. In our society, we are allowed to choose who we want to be with and with who we want to start a family with. In the novel, the government is bad because no one is allowed to speak out. They didn't have a democratic environment. In our world, we have a democratic government and the right to freedom of speech, without getting punished. On the contrary, we have to speak out to make our community better and safer to live.

The theme of poverty is brought up in the narrative many of times in the book “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”. Poverty play a very important role in the lives of Henrietta Lacks and her family. Nevertheless, because the Lacks family lived in poverty Henrietta Lacks and the Lacks family were kind of taken advantage of. For example the sample taken from Henrietta Lacks was unauthorized and the family was never told why you ask, because they never really had a reason to. This was because the Lacks family was poor and really didn’t have any money so even if they did find out they wouldn’t really be able to sue because of money reasons and plus they had little to no education to support themselves in any way. Nonetheless, the Lacks family

In the quote, Woolf is discussing the confidence of women. Since the job of a woman is basically to be inferior to men, women are losing confidence. Women are constantly struggling to do what they want as they require, “gigantic courage and strength”. Wolf believes that men have purposefully made women inferior in order to reinforce their own confidence. Thus, this lack of confidence not only led to lack of quality life for women but also led to a lack of writing. However, even with this lack confidence women continue to persist and do everything they can to write. Woolf believes that if women did have more money and confidence, then they would not have to be so inferior and get married to men so early on. Woolf believes she could have done what she wanted as she would have been financially stable and not be reliant on others. Thus, Woolf could have been the boss of herself with freedom and time. With this freedom and time, Woolf and other women could have had the opportunities to produce the works they wanted to and get it published.
Ready Player One hits some of the same situations as in the holocaust or for the book that we read “Night” like taking people spread out over a good area and combining them into a small dense area. They both also touch on the topic of how when someone is killed or something is blown up now one raises an eyebrow or if they do no one does anything about it.
In the film Number Our Days, Barbara Myerhoff studies a community of elderly Jews in Venice, CA. This ethnography contrasts much of Myerhoff’s earlier work and the work of many anthropologists as she studies members of her own ethnic group. This raises some interesting points since Myerhoff is not fully an “outsider” of their community. The audience likely received more information from the interviewees because Myerhoff had a greater instant rapport with them and was able to gain their trust. Furthermore, the tone of the film was made more personable as she tried to find her own identity and sense of belonging throughout her fieldwork.
In the book, the government made all of the decisions for everyone, making sure that in some way they contributed to their community. One example of this is when Equality 7-2521 wasn’t given a choice in the job he had. Although it wasn’t his ideal job, it was still given to him with the purpose of it helping out his community. The final technique which stood out amongst the others is limit of knowledge. The government withheld information from the Unmentionable Times from the rest of the community.
The symbolic world views of how the world was created can be described through the cosmogonies of Genesis and the Laws of Manu. It is through these theories that one can learn how the universe came into existence. Many individuals consider a certain religion to be their ultimate realm of reality, and it is within religion that these symbolic world views come into play. The cosmogony of Genesis began along a sacred history of time where god created merely by speaking. In contrast, the Laws of Manu involve creation through thought. In Genesis, there is only one god and in Laws of Manu there is more than one god. Both cosmogonies have many similarities as they have

Yes, I do believe as Americans, we should organize for reproductive justice rather than just settling on abortion rights, birth control and reproductive rights. The reason I believe we should just settle for reproductive justice because, it’s helpful for women who have suffered greatly. It is dangerous for us if we don’t let women think for themselves. For example, women who don’t receive a good quality of education will never be able to have a bright future for themselves and their children.
Lady Sharmane Day first spoke on her dark days and I must say that this was the most depressing part of the presentation. My eyes were wide open in disbelief as she spoke; I felt her pain and anger when she was speaking on her experience with family abuse and being raped as a child. I thought that she was telling a fictional story when she was speaking, I could not believe that one person could have went through so much emotional pain and distress at such a young age. As she grew older, she became depressed and upset. She continued to experience abusive relationship with men and it wasn’t until after an incident at her college where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Arlene Day later relieved that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder
The short story “A Great Day” is written by the New Zealander Frank Sargeson, one of New Zealand’s leading authors. He wrote this novel during The Great Depression in the mid 1930s. New Zealand was one of the countries that were affected by The Great Depression. Unemployment reached 12 percent at its worst and New Zealand’s national income decreased severely. The author explicitly emphasises this by bringing up the unemployment of both of the characters, Fred and Ken.
The novel, Darkness at Noon, clearly references Stalin’s purges and the show trials that occurred during the late 1930s. Although not explicitly mentioned, it is clear that this is what the novel is truly about. By reading the book, one can gain a further understanding of the time period. The novel, Darkness at Noon, can contribute to a further understanding of the 30s in the Soviet Union through its themes of old vs. new and the use of historical fiction.
