Many of these days celebrate the birthdays of Bodhisattvas in the Mahayana tradition or other significant dates in the Buddhist calendar. The most significant celebration happens every May on the night of the full moon, when Buddhist all over the world celebrate the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha over 2,500 years ago. Buddhist Festivals are always joyful occasions. Typically on a festival day, lay people will go the the local temple or monastery and offer food to the monks and take the Five Precepts and listen to a Dharma talk. In the afternoon, they distribute food to the poor to make merit and in the evening join perhaps in a ceremony of circumambulation a stupa three time as a sign of respect to the Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha. The day will conclude with evening chanting of the Buddha 's teachings and meditation.

Some holy days are specific to a particular Buddhist tradition or ethnic group (as above). There are two aspects to take into consideration regarding Buddhist festivals: Most Buddhists, with the exception of the Japanese, use the Lunar Calendar and the dates of Buddhist festivals vary from country to country and between Buddhist traditions. The Hindu then worships puja by giving flowers and fruits and finally the Hindu eats the blessed food. By following these steps Hindu believe they become closer to the deity. (asms.k12.ar.us) Hindu’s also have many festivals to celebrate their religion. Lohari is an example of one of the festivals. Lohari takes place in the winter at night in Northern India. The people build a bonfire and throw popcorn, peanuts and sesame candies into the fire. By throwing these objects into the fire it is symbolic by throwing one’s evil into the fire, and also asking for blessings for the following year. Buddhist considers all life to be sacred and/or spiritual in nature. They believe in reincarnation and a person’s spiritual future is based solely on one’s good or bad actions in this lifetime, also known as Karma.

The type of group they are is close nit besides the part that the get a lot of visitors from all over the world. Most people are gathered to this religion by ethnicity and community. He is still considered a role model to what a real Buddhist is. His name is Master Hsing Yun; his message was to give others confidence, convenience, hope and
Traditions are a constant in every culture. A tradition is considered a long-established or inherited way of thinking or acting (Shiraev & Levy, 2013). Jewish traditions include holidays, such as Yom Kippur, Hanukah, Shabbat, Passover, wedding ceremonies and receptions, and bar or bat mitzvahs. Beth explained and described Yom Kippur’s history and importance. Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. It signifies atonement and repentance. It is a 25-hour period of fasting and prayer,
Since Buddhism and Hinduism have different believes they also have different holy days. Moreover, because Hindus worship variety of gods they have a variety of festivals. The three main festivals of Hinduism are: Holi, Divali, and Dasehra. Holi is the most popular festival. This holy day is celebrated each year during February-March to welcome spring. “Holi is dedicated to god Krishna and it was once a fertility ceremony (104).” Throughout the days of Holi, many of the casts and taboo restrictions are set aside and pleasure is emphasized. The second ceremony Divali, celebrated in November, is a festival to welcome a new year. Finally the third festival, the Dasehra, celebrated up to nine days in October, in honor of Durga, a consort of Shiva. On the other hand Buddhism is divided in many ways according to philosophy and geography. The major festivals that are celebrated by most Buddhists are New Year, Buddha’s birthday, the festival of souls, and robe offering. In
The followers for Theravada Buddhism take refuge in the three jewels (which consist of the Buddha, Dharma and the Sangha), they also hold high regard for the teachings of Karma, Samsara and Nirvana. Celebrations are a major aspect for Theravada Buddhists but they only have 3 celebrations annually; Buddha’s birthday, the day Buddha was enlightened and the Luna Quarters (crescent moon, first-quarter moon, gibbous moon, and full moon) it is shunned upon to celebrate occasions other than these because they believe it decreases the value of festivities.
I will always keep the tradition my parents have hand down to me. King Sihanouk Commemoration Day will be a must celebration for me. This is because King Sihanouk saved both my mom and dad from the war they were in. He is the reason why my parents are still alive this day. Also the Chinese and Khmer new years because this is the day where we celebrate for a new start and a new year. Where I make new revolutions and try my best to succeed my new goals. I like celebrating and keeping my traditions, because its also a remembrance to my families and ancestors.
Every religion have different ways of celebrating their culture’s festivals, occasions like anniversary parties, birthday parties and death days. One way I found in Mexicans that how they celebrate the Day of Death of their loved ones. Day of Dead is celebrated in Mexico because on that day they remember loved ones who were dead etc.
There are similar holidays like the Day of the Dead happening all around the world; for example, Dia de Finados (All Souls Day)which takes place in Brazin, many Brazilians celebrate this holiday by visiting graves and churches. There are festivals and parades, then praying for the loved ones who have died at the end of the day in Spain. Phinippines and Europe have similar practices, and other similar celebrations
Both, Buddhism and Hinduism, practice mediation in order to reach the enlightenment. In addition, both beliefs are established in India. Hinduism 3000 B.C and Buddhism 2500 B.C. Buddhist and Hindus celebrate their festivals based on the lunar calendar, which keep them in touch with the natural cycles and rhythms of life. Bedsides the similarities that they have, Buddhism and Hinduism have several differences as well. For instance, Buddhism does not believe in the stages of life, which opened the door to thousands of Hindus to convert to Buddhism in 1950 at Pune. When it comes to the sacred places, both have deferent places that they worship. Bodhi trees remain to be objects of reverence, which are not for
Siddhartha Gautama was the man who founded Buddhism. Gautama was born in around 560 B.C. in Lumbini near the border of India in what is now Nepal. He was not divine at first and was born as a royal prince and was also born as a Hindu. According to a legend, at his birth a soothsayer predicted that he might become the greatest ruler in human history but if he ever saw four things- sickness, old age, death and a monk who had renounced the world then he would become a renouncer himself and search for salvation for all mankind. His father tried to prevent this from happening and provided him with many luxuries and pleasures and gave orders
A major attraction of the festival is at the Kamkhaya temple, which is flooded by the pilgrims for four days to celebrate the festival. The festival is spread across a span of four days. This festival is associated with yearly menstrual cycle of the goddess Kamkhaya. That’s why Temple remains closed for first 3days to give privacy and rest to Goddess. Scriptures have it that this festival is celebrated because Satyavati had saved his husband, Satyavan, king of Hastinapur from Yama- god of death by fasting and got her husband’s life restored. There are many stories associated with this puja therefore, this festival is celebrated with great belief and devotion
In Hinduism, I will be talking about the festival of Diwali and its rituals because I think the whole festival can encapsulate the spiritual significance of this religion than just talking about a single ritual. In this festival, one has a preview of how important is in Hinduism to celebrate the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Diwali is the biggest festival
All countries have various holidays. In holidays, people can get rest for themselves. Maybe, when we are in holidays, we would be rest without any thinking, or we can shop in shopping mall.
