As I read this prompt, I remembered my experience as a co-leader of a Christian cell group called Caregroup. One of the members was not then a full Christian; he was interested in the Christian teachings, but since he was a skeptical person, some teachings did not make sense to him. He had some unresolved questions about the teachings. Because he was a skeptical person, having faith in the words of the Bible alone was not sufficient. He needed some logic to understand why God does what He does or teaches what He teaches. So, I had to incorporate logic and critical thinking when I answered his questions. Most of the time I incorporated my knowledge from reading C. S. Lewis’ books or other Christian writers. I also used secular examples like Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.”
By answering him I learned more deeply about Christianity, improving my knowledge. Furthermore, I had to incorporate some of the virtues of good character. Sometimes, when we compared his views and my views, some arguing arose. The urge to object to his views disrespectfully arose. However, I learned how to listen and respect his views. I also knew that I

As an example; everyone who believed killing each other was fine died killing each other, so the people left are the ones who do not think killing is fine. Even though this view does not give any space for God, I was amazed upon hearing this view. It is logical and well thought-out. But, I had to respectfully disagree with him, since I believe that good values are taught by God. While he still held his views, I had to be patient and not rebuke him. I knew that if I had not been patient, he would not have shared his views and asked questions. I realized that there are some logical values that can hinder people from having a Christian’s faith; this helped me to respect those people who have opposing values and I learned to be more
The element of fog has been long recognized as a major symbol in That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis. Most scholars view the fog as a symbol of Mark feeling trapped (Cheaney) but in addition to that, it is believed that the fog is symbolizing a dark period of time where the town of Edgestow is being overtaken. The fog that begins to cover Edgestow symbolizes much more than just a thick cloud of tiny water droplets suspended in the atmosphere. The fog, made of water, is a kind of darkness which can be felt.

John Lewis questions if there will be a time when a political party will actually protect the rights of the African Americans, and when fighting will no longer be necessary. Lewis implies that the government is not doing anything to protect the rights of African Americans because he constantly asks “where is the political party that....” (para 6). John emphasizes his idea and argument through multiple rhetorical questions and examples. The significance of the evidence that he uses proves that the government is not doing anything to stop the inequality in America. Additionally, in paragraph six, Lewis asks, “What did the federal government do when local police officials kicked and assaulted the pregnant wife of Slater King, and she lost her
While reading The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis, I encountered a few questions concerning his view on Ethical Innovation and the dilemma conditioners face. It was a difficult book with many ideas that didn’t come completely clear to me at times.
Lunch mercifully arrived, and Lewis broke one of his self-imposed rules and let himself slouch. Over the summer, he had been accustomed to grabbing something from Sylvester's refrigerator or cabinet if even the thought of hunger passed through his mind. Now, Lewis had to wait four hours for a tray of food. It seemed like Sylvester was on the same page when he grabbed Lewis's arm and quickly dragged him toward the lunch line. Knowing Sylvester, Lewis got in line first to let the big guy know what the blondie was going to get. Sylvester never wanted to get the same thing since Lewis always shared. He grabbed a fruit salad, and whatever else that looked colorful.
C.S. Lewis, also known as Jack by his family and friends, was, and still is one of the most influential writers of all time. From his early years, Lewis often struggled with religion and for his whole life, he focused heavily on redemption and salvation due to his journey to faith. Struggles with religion stemmed from the death of his mother and questioning why God didn’t answer his prayers to heal her. Later in his life, Lewis applied religion to the world in such a way that he believed everything which occurred in life served a bigger purpose. Lewis became very close to J.R.R. Tolkien who heavily influenced not only Lewis’s personal life, but also his writing, which allowed him to publish some of the most widely popular novels of all time.
From my perception of why a person reads I easily agree with CS Lewis’s quote. It would seem to me that most people take advantage of the reasons we read. While reading we yearn for adventures or stories that help us escape from reality, so in a way we reach out for characters, stories or adventures. This doesn’t necessarily mean that a person is physically lonely, but rather that there is more experiences out there. Whether a reader’s life is dull or eventful, reading a new story can fill voids. One comparison to this would be a curious mind wondering if there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. They study the endless void in the sky eager to find new treasures. In my view this means a person can intentionally or subconsciously
In some ways, he inspired me to think different. Then one day, he talked about freewill and the controversy surrounding it. I was mesmerized. I kept on thinking and wondering the possibilities and their implications. It became the quest of my life.
So, I briefly explained what the assignment consisted of and he was in agreement with answering the five questions survey. My first question to him was “Do you have any kind of spiritual beliefs? His answer was, “Yes, I believe in one God”. Then I asked him, “What’s your understanding of who Jesus Christ is? His answer was, “He was a man that performed miracles”. My next
I remember one girl asked me “Is that how Christians dress”? This comment angered me and I decided to speak up and ask her “How exactly do Christians dress because I’m not aware of the Christian dress code”. She kept quiet and I remember no one else spoke to me that day. I was well aware that they were talking about me behind my back. It was quite pathetic to see how hypocritical these people were to me. One day I wasn’t able to bear my silence anymore. I had to speak up and stand for what I believe in. And so I did. During the youth meeting, the Youth Instructor was talking about how Matthew 6:1 talks about hypocrisy. Then I stood up and interrupted her. I remember saying, “With all due respect, there’s a question that has been on my mind. Why do some Christians I know try to use Christianity as a way to judge others and put others down? From what I’m hearing we should not judge others but at the same time every time I walk into this church someone judges me and calls me a sinner but yet they’ve forgotten we’re all sinners. Is it right to act holy but yet so impure”? Silence echoed the room and no one was able to utter one word. I decided to get up and leave and before I did, I added, “It’s amazing how some Christians can’t practice what they
After going over all of the answers I got from him, I feel like I have learned a bit more about the religion I grew
During this video series, I have been able to better interpret the meaning behind the Gospels and understand better the early practices of Christianity. My faith is strengthened when I acquire scholarly information about Christianity; it is defiantly a positive impact. From another perspective, if someone had a strong opinion or prior knowledge about something to find out it was incorrect, that may be challenging at first for that person to accept the correct
Five concepts I find it helpful as I speak with a new a Christian is as follows:
Now, why do you think he only asked Christians to stand up? What was his motive in separating Christians from others religions?
Within my growth as a Christian, I have usually surrounded myself with others who possess the religious beliefs that I hold. As a result of my
