As I read this prompt, I remembered my experience as a co-leader of a Christian cell group called Caregroup. One of the members was not then a full Christian; he was interested in the Christian teachings, but since he was a skeptical person, some teachings did not make sense to him. He had some unresolved questions about the teachings. Because he was a skeptical person, having faith in the words of the Bible alone was not sufficient. He needed some logic to understand why God does what He does or teaches what He teaches. So, I had to incorporate logic and critical thinking when I answered his questions. Most of the time I incorporated my knowledge from reading C. S. Lewis’ books or other Christian writers. I also used secular examples like Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.”
By answering him I learned more deeply about Christianity, improving my knowledge. Furthermore, I had to incorporate some of the virtues of good character. Sometimes, when we compared his views and my views, some arguing arose. The urge to object to his views disrespectfully arose. However, I learned how to listen and respect his views. As an example; everyone who believed killing each other was fine died killing each other, so the people left are the ones who do not think killing is fine. Even though this view does not give any space for God, I was amazed upon hearing this view. It is logical and well thought-out. But, I had to respectfully disagree with him, since I believe that good values are taught by God. While he still held his views, I had to be patient and not rebuke him. I knew that if I had not been patient, he would not have shared his views and asked questions. I realized that there are some logical values that can hinder people from having a Christian’s faith; this helped me to respect those people who have opposing values and I learned to be more
