In order to assist the students at the Public Health program at the University of Maryland to make this transition it is proposed that a two semester model be implemented. Throughout the first semester, students will be engaged in professional development that is critical to their success in their internship. This course will focus on professional development during the first three weeks of the semester and with emphasis on resume and cover letter development and interview skills. Also, during this time students will begin exploring the areas of interest to find a possible internship. It is the sole responsibility of the student to acquire an internship; however faculty member can provide guidance as needed. As a matter of fact, the Ohio State University uses this approach, which emphasizes the importance skills students acquire as a result of this experience that can be applied to their professional career (OSU.edu,
The invaluable skills that I have gained and learned through my after school clubs, Future Business Leaders of America, (FBLA) and National Honor Society( NHS), has stirred up a desire in me to help my community and to make a difference in the lives of people, by majoring in the Public Health field. Through Public Health, I will help those in my community at large to live healthy lives; mentally, socially, physically and culturally. Healthcare is an essential need in life and is a great field that would allow me to make a difference.
Throughout my undergraduate career at the University of South Carolina, I continually found myself drawn to internship opportunities

While interacting with current medical students pursuing the MD/MPH dual degree at a UTHSCSA student panel, I realized that obtaining an MPH would align greatly with my interests and career goals, allowing me to expand the scope of my medical education and enhance my critical thinking skills. I enjoy how public health combines various aspects needed to treat disease and improve health outcomes, and I know that integrating the MPH core concepts with my medical degree, will help me to become a well-rounded and better physician who approaches healthcare through both an individual and population-based perspective. An education in public health will provide me with various opportunities ranging from the creation and development of community health projects, to contributing to the modification of current health policies. I will seize the opportunity to work with professionals from all occupations including educators, clinicians, executives, and I will become an advocate and a credible voice for positive change through a better understanding of the healthcare system that is in place
Time flows like a river and you find yourself not thinking the way you used to as a child. As I grew older, my dreams and goals changed as well as my mindset on how to achieve those aspirations. Mercyhurst University’s Public Health Program is the main step toward helping me achieve my career goal of becoming a Registered Health Information Technician. I’d like to define success as many achievements and accomplishments, as well as the coming of knowledge for that which was unknown to one’s self. Therefore, there should never be an ending to a success story. It was when I graduated as a medical assistant that sparked the realization to what field I was most interested in.
Hard-working students dedicated to their work succumb to stress and panic when the pressure of college and the need to do well intensifies. On top of maintaining amazing grades, “Nayla Kidd ran track and did horseback riding in high school… she taught a popular belly dancing class at Columbia--[and] loves to DJ” (Svrluga). Her extensive resume reveals her true love for
I believe that an internship in either Human Services or Health Sciences will be an an exceptional way to see firsthand what I have been reading in textbooks and discussing in class for the last year. I have always had a particular interest in the clinical side of psychology, so given the choice I would like to shadow a practicing professional rather than spend time "behind the scenes" or in a lab, which in turn will give me hands on experience with patients and a better understanding of psychological disorders and issues. Through such interactions I hope to fully display my communication, analytical, and problem solving skills and eventually put them to the test. I hope to gain not just the experience of the work life, but also I want to learn

Students receive on-the-job experience prior to graduation, and the internship assists them in obtaining permanent employment. At SNHU, I have acquired a lot of skills that allowed me to complete my capstone project. I have learned many concepts that help me to successfully finish with my entire program. To prepare such a capstone project, it is indispensable to have some skills and knowledge. I received that knowledge from the course I had at SNHU. I got the project management skills. I now have knowledge of the healthcare informatics. My communication skills have been ameliorated. Since the project is about the healthcare system, I used my knowledge of healthcare studies to prepare my report. Those studies included, but not limited to: Health Policy and Financing; Leadership in Clinical Microsystems; Global Health and Diversity; and Health Policy, Law, Ethics and Regulations. In Addition to that knowledge, the marketing skills have been helpful for preparing the report. In sum; the courses I took at SNHU have considerably helped me to appropriately prepare the capstone project.
For health 490, I am seeking to get an internship that will help cultivate certain aspects of my personal, academic, and career development. When considering my personal development, what I strongly want to improve upon are skills such as leadership capabilities, public speaking, and health communication. During my four years at Brooklyn Technical High School, I was part of the Gateway to Medicine program. I was introduced to courses such as anatomy & physiology, organic chemistry, and biology. These extremely challenging classes piqued my interest to explore a future career in health care. The Gateway to Medicine program was multi-faceted, I went from dissecting cats to learning about spontaneous de-combustion. My guidance counselor also helped prepare me to choose a career in the medical profession.
For this last reflection, I will be summarizing my entire internship experience. I will be addressing a wide array of topics in this reflection starting with what this internship has taught me about my strengths and weakness in health-related situations and communication within health settings. This topic will also include what I have learned about myself. Next, I will convey one thing I learned at Comfort Dental that I would never have learned in the classroom. Next, I will discuss how working at a dental office as reaffirmed my choice of choosing to be a dentist as a professional career. Then, I will convey how I will answer questions in an interview asking about how this internship prepared me for my future and how being a Health Administration and policy major has prepared me for a future in dental care. Next, I will discuss the most, challenging and the best aspect of my internship. Lastly, I will convey the one “golden nugget” I will take away for this internship that will be useful in my future.
