On September 18, 2017 the University of Northern Iowa held a career fair for the students at the University to have the chance to talk with recruiters from big companies. The recruiters at the fair were mostly looking for junior and senior business students going into management, marketing, finance, accounting, or administrative careers. The reason recruiters come to the fair is so that they can talk to students and potentially give them an interview for a job or an internship. As a freshman not many recruiters were interested in talking to me, but it was a good way to prepare myself for talking to business recruiters in the future. Each business has a business philosophy which is a, “theory used to determine how a business handles different areas of operation(“What Is Business Philosophy? Definition and Meaning.”).” With that being said, I found that while some freshmen’s philosophy was to not go to the career fair because they thought it a waste of time, I found it beneficial to go and see how each recruiter was different and to get experience speaking to recruiters. Many of the businesses found at the career fair were businesses that you can find within Cedar Falls, but also have facilities around the United States. The first business I talked to was a retail store found all over the United States, Buckle. Before I saw the table for Buckle I hadn’t considered all the business positions that Buckle would need to be successful, but rather just noticed it for the cute
Considering the fact that I am not looking for a job in the St. Louis area I did not think the Career Fair would be very beneficial to me. However, I decided to take a chance and get all I could out of the fair and I honest believe I got more out of it than I expected. My only regret was that Scheffel Boyle was not there, because they are my top choice for where I want to start my career once I graduate with my MSA and I really wanted to talk to them.
My experiences and education has played an integral role in molding me into the person I am today. I chose to come to Michigan State because of the opportunities it will provide me. I faced many obstacles in high school and did poorly my first two years due to health issues. Applying to colleges was a major concern of mine, but with the support from my counselors and family I was able to get into a school as prestigious as MSU. I went from a 2.0 GPA my freshman and sophomore year, to a 4.0 GPA my junior and senior. I was very unhappy in the beginning of high school due to my lack of success, relationship with my parents, and health issues. When I finally realized I needed to make a change and started setting goals for myself, that’s when my happiness turned around. I can honestly say that I am the happiest I’ve ever been at Michigan State. I have been able to meet many new people, invited to the Honors College, and accepted into the business school. From this experience I believe happiness directly effects your success.
In the beginning of my practicum for this competency, I honestly had no thoughts of how I would achieve this. I haven’t explored any ideas of how I was able to perform critical thinking and communicate to the elderly population. Overall, I was pretty frightened of how I was going to compete this at my placement. I believe that without knowing how I was going to start doing this competency terrified me because I didn’t want to end up doing something wrong. In my reflection during September 1st to September 3rd I recall a time when Carney said something like “If you don’t make mistakes, you aren’t learning. Mistakes are okay, they don’t define you.” This helped me try new approaches when it came to this competency.
When conducting an interview I carefully read the contact with other. I knew I was interviewing someone from a different culture so I had to understand the ethnic community she was from which was Hispanic. I also was very focused on the professional self-disclosure because we were talking about a lot of personal things. I tried to humanize our relationship before I asked tough questions, this helps to create a sense of bonding. I was also very careful of my communication style, I always wanted to ask her questions in a positive manner and I was always actively listening to her responses.
Last week I attended the Kennesaw State University All-Majors Career Fair. This event took place in the Dr. Betty L. Siegel Student Recreation and Activities Center. I had several tables that I wanted to visit. However, there three recruiters that I received signatures from were Peace Corps, Kohl’s and Bright Horizon Family Solutions. I believe that each of these job opportunities could use a Psychology major. I say this because psychology can be applied to nearly every job.
As Career Fair Chair for the Student Engineers’ Council, I have had the opportunity to gain experience in Operations and Logistics. I am responsible for coordinating and planning all aspects of the Engineering Career Fair from coordinating with Reed Arena to assigning volunteers for the days of the fair. Through this position, I have learned how important experience, communication and detailed planning are for an event or organization of any size. I believe that this experience would help me greatly if selected as the Operations/Logistics/Training Sergeant.
On the afternoon of October 24th 2014, the EOP freshman were required to attend an EOP career fair. Not only was this a unique one-on-one experience, it was also a great opportunity to get an inside look of what our futures can consist of. During this time, like other students, I was to speak to a couple of people in my career path. Even though, there were a less than five people I spoke to, I managed to ask important and informational questions. To start of the fair, I walked around several times, trying to locate those who I was most interested in speaking with, and on the third time around I spoke to Norelia Cerda- Caldera. The reason I spoke with her was because she received a bachelors in Phycology and Spanish, I found this interesting due to the fact that
I had the chance to watch one of the interactions a student had with a recruiter at the OMRON booth. I watched the student look over all his paperwork and give himself a little pep talk before approaching the man at the booth. It was like a switch was turned on and the student took on a completely different persona! He was very charismatic and seemed very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the company. It was interesting to watch the interaction between the student and the representative from OMROM. I saw similar interactions with many students and representatives.
I am Chrishona Thomas and I am current MPH (management/policy) student as well as the 2016 class Vice President. I was given your contact information from Linda Pautz (Program Coordinator). I see that you will be attending the EVMS career fair as well as the MPH career development series (presented by Professor Pautz) and would like to extend an invitation to you and your organization to attend our National Public Health Week career fair. The event will be held April 7, 2016 5-7pm. I am the chair for this event this year and I as well as my MPH cohorts would love for your organization to be a participant.
I interviewed Officer Greenlee, who is a close friend. She works as a Correctional Officer for the Peoria County Jail, I interviewed her while we were on duty on Saturday, April 16th.
Thank you sir. I look forward to working for you all as well. I would be more than happy to attend the awards dinner on February 22nd. My class should be over by that time, 5:30 pm, but if a I am running late it would be due to that. But I will definitely be there none the less. For the Career Fair on February 23rd, I can be there at 9:45 am until my class at 11:35 am.
As a upcoming junior at Northville High School, the idea of college admissions is slowly becoming more important and frightening in my life. Many high school students across the U.S. all worry about what they need to do in order to get accepted into college. One summer activity that these students pursue is a part-time job or internship. Some of these appeal to teens because they offer cool benefits, a decent salary, or don’t require that much work. On the other hand, Commercial Progression appealed to me as a company that could offer real marketing and business experience to an ambitious teenager like me.
The career that I have literally chosen is the automotive service technician and mechanics career. The reason why I chose this career it’s because… Well actually I have plenty and many reasons to choose from because I am very passionate about this career and I have lived through it my entire life. One reason is that Auto Mechanics is because to me it’s an interesting field to me. I decided to explore the topic a little more to get a better understanding of what it would take to become a successful automotive technician . I have lived through the auto mechanics field pretty much all through my life. Well
In conclusion, my attendance to this career fair was about what I expected given the fact I didn't think very many businesses would be offering internships to aspiring physician's assistants. One thing I wish the Business and Technology career fair had was hospitals or more medical related opportunities. Outside that fact, I would say my overall experience at the fair was a positive
This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post-secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self-esteem and promotes a sense of self-awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school graduation.
