Career Research : Nursing Career

Before becoming a nurse, I would like to know the key aspects of this career. Such as the salary, more of what nurses do, the schooling required, the competitiveness, and if there are any benefits. I also want to know the negative aspects of the career to see what I’m going to be involved in and if I’d still be interested.

If you like to travel, you should consider becoming a travel nurse. Hospitals will always need your skills. You will work in hospitals that have a nursing shortage, and you will work in several cities. You can choose long-term and short-term assignments.

There are many different fields to choose from while working as a Registered Nurse. “Registered nurses work in hospitals, physicians' offices, home healthcare services, and nursing care facilities. Others work in correctional facilities, schools, or serve in the military.” (bls.gov). You can also specialize in a specific type of nursing by seeking employment in that individual line of work or by taking a certification test. “The Nursing2011 Salary Survey reports that nurses certified in a specialty earn an average of $10,200 per year more than nurses who are not.” (pncb.org). If you choose to go further with your education you can continue past a bachelor’s degree and get a master’s degree becoming a nurse practitioner.

A Registered Nurse is a person who enjoys helping other people. They practically have the responsibility for many peoples lives. What’s interesting about a Registered Nurse is that they get to learn about all the parts of the human body. A Registered Nurse works in the medical field and needs to be ready with anything that comes their way. There could be a sudden death, some kind of medical issue that pops up, and even a patient just falls over and hurt themselves. As a Registered Nurse they need to be able to deal with blood, snot, vomit etc. The main thing a Registered Nurse has to be good at is being able, and wanting to help people in need.

If you are trying to pursue a career in nursing you should do your research on this field. I have learned so much about what it takes to pursue a career in nursing and that there is so much more to it than just choosing what kind of nurse you want to become, to find out all about nursing you have do all the research possible. There are many roles that a nurse has such as a caregiver, educator, advocate and many more. The practice level of nursing is very broad also, there are plenty of degrees that you can get as a nurse, along with the specialty areas of practice I want to become a pediatric nurse which would be a specialty area. To be a Registered Nurse, it is recommended to have an associates degree, however, some people achieve bachelors degrees. Both degrees must be in nursing. Some people obtain diplomas from approved medical programs. Registered Nurses also need to have a nursing license. For a RN there is no on the job training. There are many fields a nurse can get into if they want to continue their education. After receiving their associates or bachelors they can choose accelerated options such as nurse practitioner (NP) basically a higher level of a registered nurse. They work more closely with the physician and are able to focus on patients’ conditions as well the effects of illness on the patient and their families. So they do more work closely related to prevention, wellness and patient education priorities. NPs can also conducts research and are often active in patient lives.
