Caroline Kennedy, daughter of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, said of her mother, “I think my mother made it clear you have to live life by your own terms and you have to not worry about what other people think and have the courage to do the unexpected”(Caroline Kennedy quotes, page 1). Jacqueline, known as Jackie, is one of the most well known women of the 1900’s. Showcasing her strong-will and grace from an early age, she inspired many people while serving as First Lady and after. She also focused also on bettering the academics at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. A famous quote from her just a few days after JFK’s assassination is, “One must not let oneself be overwhelmed by such sadness.” (Jackie Kennedy quotes, page 1) As strong as she sounded in that moment, the sadness would soon catch up to her, as it would anyone. She went through a deep depression period where she seldom left her room, cried, and drank. She experienced nightmares and often woke herself up screaming and crying. She practically blamed herself for her husband’s death, and found it terribly hard to look at her husband’s face. Jackie, for the most part, grew irritated by the chorus of public praise for her conduct in the aftermath of the tragedy. Jackie said,“I don’t like to hear people say that I am poised and maintaining a good appearance” (Barbara Leaming, paragraph 10).
