Shinika parents died in a car crash when he was in his final year of high school. Her parents were on their way to pick him up from school to a church program when the incident happened. Shinika was divested because she felt that it was his entire fault by asking them to pick him up from school instead of coming home with the school bus and will later go to Church. In addition she joined the wrong crowd. Since, then after the death of his parents she turned to drugs to hide the pain and guilt away. Even his family couldn’t help her due to Shinika not wanting to admit she had a problem.
