The businesses and products I chose happened to be, Nike and their Mercurial football boots, and Sony and their PS3 gaming console. I chose these products because I think they are both reasonably diverse, and in their time, both these products have experienced a range of sections within the product life cycle.
The topic that I have chosen to do a research project on is Nike Inc. I chose to do my research on Nike because I am for one, very much interested in Nike, and secondly I am very interested in Nike 's clothing, shoes, and accessory line.
Nike is a company that has thoroughly embedded itself into the psyche of people around the world. It's a company that started with humble origins from selling footwear in the basement to becoming the behemoth in the athletic industry. Bill Bowerman, University of Oregon track & field coach, and Phil Knight, middle-distance runner under Bowerman co-founded Nike. Nike was first established as Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964 as a partnership and the name Nike was officially adopted on May 30, 1978. The infamous Nike Logo - Swoosh, was created for a fee of $35 by Carolyn Davidson, a graphics design student. In 1980, Nike becomes a publicly traded company with the completion of its Initial Public Offering of 2,377,000 shares

I purchased thirteen shares of this stock for $1,056.12, each stock individually costing $81.24. Before purchasing this stock, the price it was last traded at was $80.23. Over the course of 52 weeks, the stock price was between $56.36 and $84.73. The price range for today is between $80.23 and $81.62. The reason I purchased this stock is because the stock price has been rising over the course of the year and I anticipate that this will bring great revenue.
The two companies that I will be conducting my research on and presenting will be in the Mass-Merchandiser Retail Industry. I chose this industry because of some of the basic knowledge that I acquired while working in the Garment Industry before it was moved overseas. The two specific companies are: Nike Inc. and the Dollar General Corporation. Regarding a general description of the two firms I have selected, Nike serves the athletic and sports industry, and the Nike Inc. brand is known for manufacturing not only sports gear but equipment as well. Regarding the Dollar General Corporation, they have more than 7000 stores nationwide, and Dollar General Corporation is a retailer of various house items that caters to all low, middle and fixed income customers. For a brief conclusion, both companies have been doing extremely well and have shown profit every year for the last five years. They are both in the Fortune 500 Companies list.
For the month of December, I was given an assignment consisting of $100,000 and four stocks to invest in. My four stocks were The Ralph Lauren Corp., Visa Inc., Master card Inc. and The Chevron Corp. As stated I was given a month to record my data and I ended up with a total capital gain of $5,518.36 for the one month period for my investments. I have to thank you Mr. Acker, this project was not difficult, but it did confuse me. Receiving this assignment scared me in a way, because I didn’t know what I was getting into. The finance world is scary and tricky, one minute the market is doing good and other days it would be low. While calculating my capital gains or losses I thought I would lose a larger
The companies I chose are Bank of America and BMW. Bank of America was started in the year 1904 in the United States and has hundreds of thousand workers. The headquarters of BOA are located in Charlotte, North Carolina and it is made very clear if you ever travel through the city as there is a sign roughly every half mile. The Carolina Panthers play in the Bank of America stadium as well so they really like to make it known. They are number 13 out of all of the listed companies in the world, number 55 in sales, number 37 in profit, number 13 in assets and number 65 under the most valuable company category. I think they are highly prosperous due to the way they market themselves. The companies name by itself is a huge part of American culture.
The company I am presenting is Nike which was founded in 1965 by the athlete Phil Knight. Nike is a well known brand which is selling its products worldwide and has 36% of the market share.
There are many companies in the sports apparel, footwear and accessories industry, such as Nike, Adidas, Puma,
NIKE Inc. principle business activities are the design, development, and worldwide marketing of high quality footwear, apparel, equipment, and accessory products.

Investing one’s money in the stock market can be a very wise thing to do in today’s economy. With so many companies that are currently being publicly traded, it can be hard to decide who to invest in so it is best to consider all the factors. However I personally am currently a proponent in investing in Pepsi and GE, even though the reasons are a bit different.
Looking at the progress of my stocks it seems to appear that Apple Company was the biggest lost. It was started off as a positive investment but as the time goes by it went down more each day. The end result with Apple it had many more negative days than positive days. I did not have a money maker, once I bought the stocks I was at a positive parentage but after that I went negative really fast. Within one day I was at a positive .72% and then the next I was at -2.87%. Without really strong money maker or even a steady eddy my stock investments went downhill fast. If I had to choose I would pick H&R Block as a was a steady eddy for the beginning of the project because doing this project when tax season was here helped
