Abstract Los Angeles flourished into one of the nation's largest and busiest metropolitan area thanks to many advancements and creation of public transportation. What started off as private companies with rail lines travelling north to San Francisco and lines to the East coast, has thrived to the several bus, light rail, heavy rails, and bus rapid transit services control by the Public transportation agency LACMTA. LACMTA stand for Los Angeles County Metropolitan authority and they purchased the privately owned public transportation services to have control of all types of public transportation modes available in the Los angeles County. While LACMTA, or Metro as it is more commonly referred to, offers a high number of travel options, most
The city of Los Angeles is not a unified city. Los Angeles consists of too many large sub cities or communities to speak with one voice. There are many sub cities in LA such as the Westside, Hollywood, the Valley, Downtown, and of course, South Central. To make things more difficult, many of these sub cities themselves are not unified. Due to their size, all
Sonoma County, California (CA) is located in the central part of the state just northwest of the San Francisco/Oakland area. With a population of around 485,000 (81% white), the residents work mainly in the agricultural industry. Sonoma County, California (CA) is the world famous home of the state's popular wine industry that includes the Napa Valley. Many of the county's current issues related to drug abuse and addiction could be attributed to its proximity to the high crime areas of Oakland to the south.
Explain the issue or dilemma using information from the readings in the book and other sources (e.g., websites, articles, etc). Cite your sources using APA.
Wednesday, March 1, was the 3rd game of the Chino Hills Varsity Baseball season. In this game, versus West Covina, Jacob Hobson took the mound in search of increasing Chino Hills’ record to 2-1. Jacob Hobson was excellent in his pitching performance on Wednesday by going to four innings, allowing no runs, two hits, and striking out 3 hitters. All three of Hobson’s strikeouts were on curve balls and had West Covina’s hitters out in front all game. Jacob Hobson was so successful in his start due to his mixing of speeds between his fastball, curveball, and change-up. The offense for Chino Hills was phenomenal by racking up eight runs on ten hits to give Jacob Hobson the win. The offensive star of the game was Gavin Woodward who went 4-4 with a
Question: Did the University of California violate the Fourteenth Amendment's equal protection clause, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, by practicing an affirmative action policy that resulted in the repeated rejection of Bakke's application for admission to its medical school?
Although most of the United States is lacking in affordable and convenient public transportation the San Francisco Bay Area offers many different forms of public transportation. The Bay Area is home to one of the more widely known public transportation systems within California called the Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART. BART is a multi car electric rail powered system which travels from the northeast bay to the southeast bay and connects the east bay and Oakland with San Francisco. One downfall to the system lies in transportation to and from a desired BART station. The east bay area contains a bus system called the County Connection, which runs constantly to and from the local BART stations and most residential areas, shopping and business centers. With a little patience one can get pretty much anywhere in the east bay area using BART and the County Connection busses. A common benefit of BART lies in its convenience in heavily trafficked areas and/or during daily commutes and rush hours. BART offers a premier form of
At the time of the first incident involving Riley, he was known to be affiliated with the Lincoln Park gang in San Diego, California. On August 2, 2009, Riley with a few other gang members shot at a man of their opposing gang. Shortly after the scene took place, Riley and his crew then drove off in Riley’s vehicle. After a few days, on August 22, 2009, a police officer had pulled Riley over for expired tags on the current vehicle he was driving. At the same time, after running his license, the officer discovered that Riley was driving on a suspended license. Following the official procedure, Riley’s vehicle was to be impounded. Before his vehicle could be towed away though, the officer must go through and search
Or I fit consider as an unreasonable search. In fact, according to the Fourth Amendment it is not allowed to search or seize without a warrant. The issue in Riley’s case was that the police officer searched his phone without a warrant that gives him the green light to search or seize. However, there are some exceptions in the Fourth Amendment which may allow the
In the case of California v Ciralolo, the government did not do too far. In 1986 Dante Ciralolo, lived in Santa Clara California and was growing marijuana in his backyard, which was illegal. After receiving many reliable tips from the community, the police investigated these allegations. When they arrived at his home, they found a six-foot outer fence and a ten-foot inner fence surrounding his place so they couldn’t see into his backyard. The other houses in the neighborhood area did not have high fences so the police were curious of what he was doing behind the walls of his yard (Doc. B, C). Did they go too far by renting a plane to view his property and not getting a search warrant? I do not think so because this act did not defile the 4th Amendment.
In Los Angeles, it’s a very popular and expensive place to live, and due to many reasons over 55,000 people have been homeless, up to 2006 the homeless would get arrested for laying in public areas, losing all of their belongings. In the case of Jones v. City of Los Angeles six homeless people appealed their acclimation and won, causing the city to remove that law. In the Case of Jones v. Los Angeles, the court made the right decision because this law acted against the 8th and 14th amendment.
In 2009, Jerry Roberts and Phil Troustine wrote an article for the Los Angeles Times, titled, “How California Became Ungovernable.” The authors of this article stated six main factors, or rules, that have greatly contributed to California’s lack of governability. Governability is enabled by rules that allow for the ability to pay for governmental expenditures and get political decisions made in a timely manner. Many of the rules that Roberts and Troustine have mentioned in their article have been revised to ultimately make California become more governable. In this essay, I will review what rule changes have taken effect since this article was written, and also state my opinion on if these changes have made California more governable.
Riverside County (RC) was first incorporated in 1832, and is currently the fourth most populated county in California, with 2.3 million residents. RC is a diverse area of urban, suburban, and rural communities. Geographically, it stretches over 7,200 square miles, including 26 incorporated cities and 25 school districts. RC is currently divided by two (2) main highways (I-15 and I -10), and two main freeways (R – 91 and R – 60). Because of the continuous population surge, as well as the diversity of terrain, RC face numerous traffic issues.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s crime map shows that there are a lot of crime activities happened in downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and West Hollywood. Most of the crimes happened are larceny, motor vehicle theft, and vehicle break-in. The homicide report map on L.A. Times website indicates that most of the victims in downtown areas are Latinos and African-Americans, suspiciously due to gang violence. One thing really surprised me after viewing the crime map was that there is no crime activities happened in Monterey Park and Alhambra, where most of the Chinese live. I checked out the homicide report map and compared the numbers of death in downtown areas and in Pasadena areas. I was shocked by the number differences of death in these
Los Angeles was the first product off the assembly line of American urban planning. Turned on in the late 19th century, the city-making machine was fueled by an immense immigration of people who sought to create a new type of city out of the previously quaint pueblo. They also strove to craft the first major city developed primarily by Americans and outside of European archetypes. As a result, Los Angles is not only incredibly diverse, but also nearly impossible to define. Since it is a product of the American machine, understanding the community of Los Angeles becomes vital to understanding the United States. But to fully comprehend the present Los Angeles, one must look at the process that created it. Specifically, Los Angeles was
Los Angeles is one of the most exciting cities in the United States. According to the Los Angeles post record tourist numbers in 2012, the city attracts 41.4 million visitors per year. Even though the traffic is terrible, Los Angeles is still one of my favorite places because of the many restaurants to dine in, and the many wonderful attractions.
