The Los Angeles Police Department’s crime map shows that there are a lot of crime activities happened in downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and West Hollywood. Most of the crimes happened are larceny, motor vehicle theft, and vehicle break-in. The homicide report map on L.A. Times website indicates that most of the victims in downtown areas are Latinos and African-Americans, suspiciously due to gang violence. One thing really surprised me after viewing the crime map was that there is no crime activities happened in Monterey Park and Alhambra, where most of the Chinese live. I checked out the homicide report map and compared the numbers of death in downtown areas and in Pasadena areas. I was shocked by the number differences of death in these

Los Angeles, California went through a time period where serial killings happened and the suspect was on the run for over two decades. Most of the victims were prostitutes in South Los Angeles. The serial killer began his killings in 1987, apparently stopped for 13 years then resumed with his killings. The killer left little to no evidence, besides his DNA from sexually assaulting his female victims. For decades LAPD failed to find the killer or anyone who was related to him (Dolan & Landsberg, 2010).
The police report ((Crash Report Number/Agency Case Number 16-238828) (Report Date 9/6/2016) has numerous inconsistencies and beginning with the license plate. The police report stated that my dad’s license plate was a “Veteran Plate” when in fact it was a “Patriot” plate depicting an American Bald Eagle, the New Mexico flag, and the U.S. flag. The second contradiction was the color of my father 2014 Kia Sedona, which in the report stated that it was “Silver”, the true color of the van is “Silverstone Beige”. The van was more beige than
With the leading number of gangs in the country, Los Angeles is thought of as the gang capital of the world. Employing gang suppression strategies that take distinct forms, from anti-gang injunctions to high rate of incarcerations, the City of Angels has failed to live up to its angelic name. Known instead for its demonic gang activity and police suppression efforts, Los Angeles has taken over media headlines as one of the most dangerous places to subsist. Representing a worrisome issue for residents, visitors, city government officials, as well as urban planners, gang violence has rapidly become a threat to public safety. Although current-day gang culture has eased off on the violence, it continues to be one of the greatest planning challenges
As I, Klaudia Hoxha (forensic technician), approached the crime scene at 4 o'clock pm at the residence of Josh Powell. As i approached the scene i noticed 4 reporting officers, and the fire fighters who put the fire out, were present at this two story single family dwelling. I approached the reporting officers and fire fighters and took copies of there reports. I then immendently, sent in my team to take pictures and any kind of evidence they can find. From the looks this residential seemed occupied. A fire expands horizontally and vertically from it's point of origin, which in this case is the center of the house. According to a report, i noticed a witness who was a member/ social worker from Powell's meeting groups ,gave a statement that
The Los Angeles County Sheriff 's Department is tasked with providing health care services to all incarcerated prisoners within a jail system which at present exceeds 18,500 inmates. Correctional Treatment Center (CTC) provides care and treatment for inmates requiring inpatient medical and or psychiatric care in this 196-bed rated medical unit located in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles. The inmate population is in poor health, largely due to the lifestyle choices of the inmates which often include substance abuse, violence, and living on the streets of Los Angeles. They require the same basic medical care that all residents of Los Angeles County require, including routine illness to advanced medical issues such as tuberculosis (TB), AIDS/HIV+, heart disease, diabetes, dialysis, paraplegics, and acute mental health problems. Additionally, problems associated with aging are becoming common as the jail population increasingly includes older inmates. In the wake of chronic overcrowding in the county lockups, the Sheriff 's Department has been struggling to provide adequate care for thousands of inmates, many of whom have never been treated, with illnesses ranging from tuberculosis to AIDS to schizophrenia. Reported rates of tuberculosis in jails and prisons are more than six times higher than those for the general population. Jails and prisons concentrate individuals at high risk for TB or noncompliance with therapy, including those who are
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is composed of over eighteen thousand employees. The hiring process is a long and arduous process, consumed with numerous steps. The most pivotal aspect of the hiring process is the background investigation on applicants. Background investigations are a crucial step to deciding if an applicant will be qualified for employment. Unfortunately, even qualified applicants are overlooked, and under qualified applicants are offered employment to meet discriminating hiring quotas. These hiring quotas are a result of a policy known as Affirmative Action.
In the state of California, according to the CAL. PEN. CODE § 187, there are three types of murders that involve having an intention to kill. They are as listed: premeditated murder, second-degree murder malice aforethought, and murder as a result of provocation. Murder as a result of provocation is one who states a mental incapacity for either the time being, such as; blacking out, or they had temporary loss of control of oneself and could not control it. This is only seen though through murder cases for it to end up being a lesser charge. Second-degree murder malice aforethought is a non-premeditated killing of a victim who cannot be fully proven there was the full reasoning of the death. This is also known as having some sort of intent or recklessness.(Cal. Penal Code § 187 [West 1996]). Premeditated murder is someone who sat down and thought the murder through and went along with it, also known as first-degree murder. So with all that being said, in the scenario about a victim of a DUI accident who had religious beliefs about blood transfusion died from bleeding out too much in California. The drunken driver was on probation for a previous DUI he has received, and because of him driving drunk, caused him to be impaired which caused him to crash into a parked car. Where then the victim was trapped and started to bleed out. When they approached the hospital, the victim made it clear that she is against blood transfusions due to her religious beliefs, so the doctors than
Uniform Crime Report is a route for police of distinctive locales to look at wrongdoing inside of their group. It began in 1931 by the FBI. The way that it has been around for so long despite everything it being utilized as top efficient date authority in law implementation demonstrates its significance. Not all casualties report the criminal acts so it may not be as precise but rather it is solid. The National Opinion Research Center was the first national casualty overview. Questioners contemplated family units in a twelve-month period to see what occurrences they have experienced. It was made in 1967 by Ennis. The UCR delineated like fifty percent of what the family units were included in. exploitation overviews are exceptionally useful to the law implementation organization. I don't comprehend what other approach to track wrongdoing in the point of view of a casualty. The issue is that a great many people who are casualties won't report the wrongdoing in which they were exploited.
In short, a K-9 unit, consisting of two officers, illegally pulled me over and illegally searched my vehicle even after my objection.
This project is a focus on how variables such as population, ethnicity, and income affect crime rates throughout different neighborhoods throughout a city. I feel that this information finding this information could be useful to many people. For example if you are looking to buy a new home or even start a new business, you’ll probably want it located in a safe neighborhood. This study will help identify the signs of a safe neighborhood. Knowing why crime rates are higher in some areas may also help prevent the crime rate to rise in other neighborhoods. For example, if crime rates are higher in neighborhoods with
In 1994 a report by the Mollen commission on police corruption in New York exposed disproportionate corruption within the department. Violent crime, including gang type activity, cops in uniform routinely storming drug locations and stealing narcotics, money weapons and whatever they felt like taking. On duty police officers riding alongside drug dealers, providing protection while the dealers carried big amounts of drugs and cash. The commission also found cops who became drug dealers themselves starting up their own drug dealing networks and delivery centers. (Neighborhood Explanations) Although most officers are honest and hard-working, the Mollen report exposed serious, violent activity by some in the department.
In the past few months it has been discovered that San Francisco police officers have sent many racist and homophobic text messages between each other. They were discovered during the investigation of a different group of officers were caught for the same thing. It’s said that the messages contain disparaging remarks about transgender, gays, African Americans, and Asian people. The investigation also shows that the same officers are known to act in a racially biased way when dealing with cases. They have been accused of using unnecessary deadly brutal force and focuses mainly on black neighborhoods for minor crimes while ignoring the same problems in other places. It’s ironic they would find these kind of people here serving to protect the people when San Francisco is one of the nation’s most diverse cities. The district attorney said these text messages were a sign that the whole department had an issue bigger than the investigators anticipated. The new officers in the new case were sending offensive texts while the city was checking out 14 of their co-workers for the same thing. The attorney already knows that many of their cases will have to be looked over due to the contamination of a strong biased opinion to certain people. This investigation started due to a sexual
Providing service to the community is the third main role of policing this is the non-law enforcement or non emergency police work executed by officers. In this area police officers are
A common theory in criminology and in sociology suggests that class and race are vital roles regional crime rates. Previous research indicates that the distribution of class and race within certain residential areas has a key role in the outcome of certain violent acts. In his study, Income Inequality, Race, and Place: Does the Distribution of Race and Class within Neighborhoods Affect Crime Rates, John R. Hipp states “Specifically, studies have tested how the distribution of economic resources across neighbor-hoods, as measured by income or poverty, affects neighborhood crime rates or the how the distribution of racial/ethnic minority members across neighborhoods, as measured by the percent nonwhite, and so on, affects neighborhood crime rates (Hipp 2007). While one may traditionally assume that minorities neighborhoods yield a more intensive crime rate, this is not necessarily true.
