Our Phi Theta Kappa Chapter partnered with Little City, a non-for profit organization, to create a vegetable garden, where we work throughout the summer and beginning of fall. I was part of the project from day one when we started setting everything up, until the day when we harvest some of the vegetables. A few Little City’s residents cooked the vegetables and we had the opportunity to eat some of
I am a senior graduating in spring 2016. I am interested in joining the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society. I meet every requirement except the cumulative GPA. At this time my cumulative GPA is a 3.17 nevertheless, I have a GPA of a 3.75 in my criminal justice course. In spring 2015, I was double majoring in Chemistry and Criminal Justice. I am interested in becoming a forensic scientist. When my workload started to get overwhelming I dropped chemistry just to focus on criminal justice. I want to know is it possible I can still join Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society.
I am interested in the Delta Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. at Cheyney University. Being a lifetime member of the first sorority for African-American women has sparked my interest since childhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority means to me services provided by now all ethnicities for women to impact the community in a positive manner. The services since the beginning in 1908 have been immaculate. Many AKA’s were helping during the Great Depression, Civil Rights Movement, and today are helping with Black Lives Matter. Being a potential member of this prestigious organization for a lifetime I believe will be able to make a difference on Cheyney University campus and surrounding areas.

Over the Fall Break I had the opportunity to volunteer with the local farm: Sweet Earth Gardens. This farm happens to be in The District of Ka’u: Ocean View, Hawaii. Sweet Earth Gardens are connected to, and sells to, Adaptations Incorporation. Adaptations Inc. is a produce wholesaler that supports local farmers and promotes organic food. I worked 12 hours over the period of time between October 8th and October 15th. As a volunteer I was placed into a hands on position of learning. I was taught how to pick and handle the produce correctly. picking days generally lie on Wednesday and Sunday; we picked two different types of edible flowers, we also picked rosemary, lavender, and beans. We tended to the majority of the

Before I turned one, I was diagnosed with a life-threatening peanut allergy. It is scary to think that when I start college I will not have my parents home cooked meals knowing that everything is safe for me. In my college search I need to take into consideration how each school will deal with my allergy. On the UCONN Nutrition site, it says that they make every attempt to identify ingredients that may cause allergic reactions. In the dining halls they label items with possible allergy containing ingredients, but there is always a risk of contamination (Nutrition Dining Services UCONN). If I choose to attend UCONN, they have a database online with all the food they are serving for that day and the ingredients are listed. The Culinary Development
As president of the co-ed service fraternity, I have come to a decision about the program that my chapter will be donating to. I have carefully read over each Proposal of the programs in question. On top of the proposals, I have also done my own research on each of the programs to ensure I had all the information I needed to make this decision as fairly as I could. Based on the proposals and my research and since I cannot divide the money and give to all of them; I have decided to grant the literacy program the fund money. Keep in mind that all programs are equally impressive and I did not take the decision lightly. I understand this money could help each program tremendously and I am excited to see what it does for this particular program.
With most compelling evidence, it is the goal of Phinell Christian Academy (PCA) to provide a (CMP) that implement procedures for potential crises. As an illustration, the plan includes who to contact, what to do, how to handle the children, and so forth (Musial, 2007). Similarly, Thompson (n.d.) also expresses that a good crisis management plan not only addresses potential risks, but also provides appropriate training to managers and staff (par. 1). By the same token, the CMP is also used as a recruiting method. Coupled with other inquires, parents often inquiry about the safety of their children. With this in mind, having a CMP readily available, gives parents a sense of comfort knowing that if a crisis occurs the academy is prepared
Initially I thought my service learning time in the campus gardens would be working on one task, such as weeding, the whole time. While my first few minutes of service learning were occupied with weeding, I was pleasantly surprised to be working on different tasks. The time spent in the campus gardens has been time of learning and building community. With each new task I learn why I am doing it and how it helps the garden continue to flourish or give back to the surrounding community. When I harvested butternut squash, I learned first how to know when it was ready to be picked. That squash I harvested is for the Farm-to-Table event on campus. Knowing that the campus garden grew butternut squash, I chose to try it later when it was an option

Every other Friday my National Honor Society chapter donates free organic food to the local community through the food bank. When we first started this event I had no understanding of how significant and beneficial it would be to our local community. Every week that we donate food to my neighbors I witness the conditions that they live in. Some are hungry and unable to support themselves. I also noticed the outcomes of this program. I observed many students in my high school packing healthy lunches, and buying less products from the nearby gas stations. I also see
As we were learning about the three sectors of sustainability in the beginning of the semester, I realized how broad sustainability is. I began considering and reaching out to experience the different aspects of each sector, and quickly discovered how passionate I am about the service sector. I’ve always enjoyed and understood the importance of volunteer work in bettering myself and the community. In turn, for my service learning event, I choose a serving and clean up shift at the community dinner. I got there a bit early and was able to assist the cooking shift before me. I had no idea how much I would enjoy it. Meeting the volunteers and student leaders was a great way to conversate with others about aspects and initiatives on campus relating to sustainability. It was engaging to be around individuals that shared a common passion. When all the food was finished, we brought it upstairs and got ready to serve. People began coming up for helpings and it shocked me how much food we served. Everyone was very grateful, and although I only had a small part in the food preparation, I had such a strong feeling of contentment and happiness knowing so many people enjoyed their meal that was destined to be thrown away. When they announced that all the food had been reclaimed and we were feeding over 100 people, I was flabbergasted. Being aware of how much food was going to be wasted was an eye-opening moment for me. It lit a fire under me and make me want to be a bigger part of
