Case Study The Nacirema Tribe

The Nooksack Indian Tribe (will be called the Tribe throughout this proposal) has regressed in self-governance. Over the past four years disenrollment has been the core focus of the Tribe, which has caused discourse in self-determination. There is a dire need to reform the Tribe’s constitution for it does not address our inherent rights, describes who we are as Nooksack people, overcome political obstacles, conflict resolution, and leadership roles. The current constitution is based on the Indian Reorganization Act [IRA] cookie cutter constitutions made by the federal government. The parties involved in this case analysis are the Makah tribe, the young members of the Makah tribe, the elder members of the Makah tribe, the Makah tribal leaders, the gray whales, and the environmental community. The moral issues for this case analysis are the safeguarding of the gray whale population, which was on the decline back in the 1920’s. Another moral issue is the fact that the Makah tribal leaders want to use whale hunting as a way of re-establishing traditions, pride, and discipline with the young men of the tribe.

By keeping reading this article, I do understand that Nacirema is a tribe with a deep and unique connection with their culture. For example, they have a created a special structure of society for their ritual and ceremony of the human body. Indeed, the Nacirema tribe has a deep believe in their religion, culture and their belief. We understand from this perspective that our diversity makes us certainly different, but connected. For example Horace mentions that Nacirema body cleansing is a must for social recognition, and mouth rituals make them (the Nacirema) more accepted by others. These rituals may look odd to some point of view. In this logic, one may argue that the author emphasizes the fact that diversity acknowledgement can be complex.

The Makah tribe is a very interesting tribe. They hunted, farmed, and enjoyed life! Even though a lot of times they didn’t want to work they did for their people in their tribe.

Although the Nacirema tribe has very unique methods and focus on the human body and appearence, they are similar to our society. I feel like this tribe's beliefs are particularly similar to ours because they try to achieve "beauty" just like we try to be "prettier" or "perfect". The Nacirema can be described as a weird/unique tribe because they use torture to achieve their beliefs. One thing that striked me as particularly odd was the "mouth-rite" and "latispo" rituals because the people knew that they might die if they went through them and they still do it. Navajo Indian Tribe Are Native Americans from the Southwestern United States. They are one of the largest tribes of American Indians in the world. They lived in the Southwest areas that are today known as New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. Their "Navajo" came from the Spanish who called them the Apaches of Navajo. They called themselves "Dine" or "the People". I chose to write about the Navajo Indians Tribes because I would like to learn more about them.

Humans across all cultures try to explain why they came to be as well as where they came from, and from these explanations become stories. These stories all begin as oral traditions, they change generation to generation and at some point, they are written down or not. Native American genesis stories are often not written down as they are viewed as detracting from the story, they are meant to be oral stories and once written down they cease to be "alive". The Cherokee tribe has a very interesting origin story, that can lead to some interesting possibilities of where this story could have stemmed from. Hesiod’s versions of the Prometheus/Pandora story and the book of Genesis’s story of Eve’s act of eating the forbidden fruit both introduce a female figure whose actions are connected with the seeming introduction of evil into the world. At first glance, it appears that the Genesis story is more compelling than Hesiod’s account at explaining the origin of evil because its monotheistic structure makes the logic behind the evils far more clear and straightforward than Hesiod’s logic. The act of disobedience by Eve seems fully her own fault while God (Yahweh) is faultless. However, Genesis is too simple because the story of Prometheus/Pandora is far more complex. The Hesiod story of Prometheus/Pandora is more compelling than Genesis because the conflict allowed disputes between the gods in its polytheistic worldview rather than one god making Hesiod more compelling at explaining the evils of the world.
