This research paper exhibits Trader Joe’s unique business strategy in the management skills that has built a chain of grocery markets, and the understanding of Trader Joe’s business model in planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. According to the MGMT8 textbook “planning is determining organizational goals and means for achieving them, organizing is creating structures and work systems, leading is inspiring and motivating people to work hard to achieve goals, and controlling is monitoring progress toward goal achievement and take corrective action when needed” (Williams, 2016, pp. 4-6). Trader Joe’s demonstrate the importance of the management process in planning, organizing, leading, and controlling in many different ways. According to Forbes article “Trader Joe’s stands out from all the rest of the grocery business because they have proven how cultural awareness can cultivate business growth, and a grass-roots marketing niche that draws viral consumer activity” (Llopis, 2011). Trader Joe’s is a private and a diverse company, and their approach and attitude are deeply embedded in the roots of the business model such as, product packaging, product selection, vendors, business layout, employees, and management. In addition, Trader Joe’s business model is to listen and to carefully respond to the needs of those they serve, and they encourage feedback from consumers such as, completing a simple response card that is available in every store. The cult following for Trader Joe’s distinguishes it from its competition. This cult is projected to grow as upcoming generations become more and more price sensitive. Loyal shoppers will camp out overnight for a grand opening or, in one example, write 50 letters to the headquarters pleading for a store opening in their state. This is surprising because their target shopper, Millennials, “show little retailer loyalty” when it comes to where they get their groceries. Trader Joe’s has obtained this loyalty through their Every Day Low Pricing Strategy, constantly changing inventories, and superb store environments.
This image event will take place at a Trader Joes grocery store located in Bethesda Maryland; just off of Wisconsin Ave tucked into a small strip mall. Trader Joes is a grocery store that values their costumers and therefore the food that they offer to sell to them. Most, if not all the food available at your local Trader Joes will not contain or use GMOs, which is very important due to the negative effects it has proven to cause on peoples health down the line. The ultimate mission here, is to create an impact on the costumers by putting huge, but false GMO labels on every item sold at the store, and see how many people buy their food regardless of the fact that its explicitly saying there are GMOs in the food you are willing to purchase.

Upon entering the foyer at Trader Joe’s there was a totem pole shape figure for recycling bags. The store was brightly lit giving clear view of fruits and vegetables at the entrance. A majority of the products in the store were organic and contrary to Aldi, the prices were moderate to high. All of the items I viewed were not name brands were Trader Joe’s. The grocery carts are available at no charge to utilize during your visit at the store. The store was spacious and there was plenty of room to maneuver the cart. I did not notice many displays but the way the food was arranged and labeled my interest was sparked to take a closer look. There was an area where I noticed that items were arranged to entice you purchase additional items that would

Why do you buy groceries at the place you buy groceries at? Is it because of the price? Is it the location? Or is there something else that grocery stores use to draw you in and keep you shopping there? I recently shopped at the newly opened Trader Joes that opened up in Oklahoma City and I found some interesting methods of changing the atmosphere of the store to improve sales. The exterior embellishments drew my attention, the interior lay out of the store was different then I have seen before, and the location chosen for the store all combined together to make what seems to me to be a thought out plan for success. When you walk into the store, Trader Joes has made a conscious effort to keep you there and help you to purchase as many of their products as possible.
Trader Joe’s has an amazing business model that makes them a $9 billion dollar 365 store organization, which can make larger stores very envious. First of all they use smaller real estate the average store is about 25% of a full size grocery store, they pretty much carry specialty products that are exclusive to Trader Joe’s, they may appear under their house brands of Trade Giatto, Trader Jose´, Trader Ming & Trader Darwin that cannot be found in any other stores.
Joyce Stevenson, the manager of marketing research for Barkley Foods, had just left an emergency meeting with the firm’s president. An opportunity to buy an established line of gourmet (high-quality/high-priced) frozen dinners had arisen. Because there were other interested buyers, a decision had to be made within three or four weeks. This decision depended on judgments about the future prospects of the gourmet frozen dinner market and whether Barkley could achieve a competitive advantage. The marketing research group was asked to provide as much useful information as possible within a 10-day period. Although uncomfortable with the time pressure involved, Joyce was
