A survivor is a person who is full of wonder and curiosity. A person who can never quench their thirst for adventure and beauteous moments. Taking on life with curiosity and admiration, only stopping when they stumble and fall into an exquisitely fragile moment in time. A survivor is a person who is curious about how the world works and how so very few can see the stunning beauty in the game of life. A survivor will push through the struggles and confinements of practiced living and take their own self sought out journey knowing that the storms ahead will only bring an impressionable sense of serenity and harmony. In the article Catching Kayla, Kayla, a young track running teenager with M.S wants to do what she can while she can even though she knows what she is ensuing will last a short time. Even though she knows she will collapse after every race she participates in Kayla still wants to give it everything she has in her to try and win. “The disease has no potential to make her physically more competitive… If M.S has made her a better athlete, I believe it is a mental edge” (Crouse). Kayla knows she has limited time with her ability to use her legs and now she is using it to push her to do the things people thought she couldn’t do. M.S. is her reason and motivation to live her life to the fullest and do all the things everyone else wouldn’t think too much about doing. When Kayla gets older and can no longer walk she can look back through her memories blissfully, knowing that she took advantage of the time she had as well as did what she wanted to do despite her M.S. Her coach, Cromwell said “I don’t know anyone in thier right mind… who would say, ‘Give me M.S. so I have a little bit of numbness after mile 2.’ But I think that’s when she gets her strength” (Crouse). This shows how Kayla is willing to suffer through her M.S. in order to do what she likes. Kayla is using it as motivation to push her to do the things people thought she couldn’t do. M.S. is her reason and motivation to live her life to the fullest and do all the things she wants to do. Kayla does what she does that way she will never regret not using her time with functioning legs when she no longer can use
