What was the Underlying cause of World War I The Great war, later as it would be called “World War I”, was known to be the deadliest and most encompassing war the world had ever witnessed, creating an affliction in Europe. World War I had caused over 37 million fatalities, in 1914 up to 1918, and causing 17 million deaths. What was the cause of The Great war, the question that has continually been asked. Conjectures of the causes of the Great War were the prominence of militarism, inundation of nationalism and powers of the alliances. During the course of The Great War, large powers were practicing for the preparation for war. In 1914, Germany had spent about 120 pounds for their armies to expand and grow. Nationalism, a vision of pride and loyalty in one’s country. This had caused other countries a qualification about going to war. During the evident war, offers were given to diverse countries but no one had agreed to sign into these offers. No country wanted to grant fault, keeping the war alive. As all countries, that do not want to admit fault, are pointing at someone else. Last but not the least of the major causings, alliances of European countries. Italy, Germany, and Austria-Hungary were in an agreement with one another, called the Triple Alliance. As they had been in a treaty, the United Kingdom, France, and Russia had an alliance as well, called the Triple Entente. When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, a country that Russia had been in close contact with, it had caused problems between them both. This contribution then lead to Russia declaring war on the countries involved in the Triple Alliance, causing the start of war. In conclusion, Militarism, Nationalism, and the Alliances played a role in the cause of The Great War. Militarism causing the mentality of leaders to await war, neglecting for it’s claim. Nationalism influenced this situation as well, as countries began to fight, leading to citing of the Triple Alliance and Triple Entente. In result, the main cause for The Great War were the countries who began expanding and preparing for war too
