Cannabidiol (CBD) May Inhibit Brain Cancer
According to the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA), roughly 80,000 new cases of primary brain tumors are expected to be diagnosed in 2017, including more than 26,000 primary malignant and 53,000 non-malignant brain tumors. Recently, a study shows the potential of the cannabinoid drug, Epidiolex to increase life expectancy in individuals suffering with an aggressive form

CBD Inhibits Human Glioma Cell Migration
The inhibition of endothelial cell migration has been recorded in studies of CBD and angiogenesis, and so, it makes sense that researchers would take it a step further and examine cell migration in brain cancer. In a 2005 study, published in the British Journal of Pharmacology, researchers examined the ability of cannabidiol (CBD) to impair the migration of U87 glioma cells stimulated by conditioned medium. The results indicated that CBD halved tumor cell migration in vitro, but was not mediated by the typical cannabinoid receptors, which the researchers speculate might be due to an interaction with a similar type of receptor showing inverse agonist properties. CBD Offsets THC to Inhibit Glioblastoma Cell Proliferation and Survival
It has been suggested in numerous studies that CBD can counteract the effects of THC and exert its healing properties, but it has also been demonstrated that CBD can enhance the effects of THC. "Molecular Cancer Therapeutics," in 2010, published an article in which researchers made the case that CBD enhances the inhibitory effects of THC on human glioblastoma cell growth and survival. Researchers evaluated cannabidiol in combination with THC in the U251 and SF126 glioblastoma cell lines, and discovered that
In the report, “Marijuana and Medicine,“ released by the Institute of Medicine, it is stated “the most encouraging clinical data on the effects of cannabinoids on
Cannabis is better known by many people as just a recreational drug but studies show that the chemical compounds in Cannabis to cause the death of cancer cells along with relieve chronic pain and anxiety caused by other cancer treatments. Dennis Hill is a cancer survivor who treated and cured himself using cannabis as a treatment he explains how THC works to kill cancer cells when he states “Very simply, when THC connects to the CB1 or CB2 cannabinoid receptor site on the cancer cell, it causes an increase in ceramide synthesis which drives cell death.” THC when introduced to the cancer cell causes a ceramide synthesis in which ceramide starts to build up causing the Sphingolipid Rheostat to push Cytochrome c out of the mitochondria. Cytochrome
The two main cannabinoids in Cannabis are THC and CBD and both have been scientifically proven as well as FDA approved to provide several medical benefits that assist in the argument in legalizing medical marijuana. According to an article on drugabuse.gov, “THC increases appetite and reduces nausea and may also decrease pain, inflammation, and muscle control problems. CBD is a cannabinoid that may be useful in reducing pain and inflammation, controlling epileptic seizures, and possibly even treating mental illness and addictions.” These two main cannabinoids have been proven to provide patients with several medical benefits that other drugs cannot provide and that may not be safe or have safe side-effects. Since medical marijuana has so many medical benefits that it can provide as a benefit to so many patients, including cancer patients, by killing certain cancer cells and slowing its growth down then it would only be fair to legalize it throughout the United States for the sake of every patient’s health (drugabuse.gov). As stated before, medical marijuana is also a safer alternative to a variety of other drugs which is another reason as to why it should be
And even if you have not, there is an overwhelming wealth of facts all over the internet and even in news papers. Both the American Cancer society and the American Medical Association support research trials to assess cannabis’s medical potential. Millions of Americans diagnosed with incurable and fatal diseases are using marijuana to help ease their suffering. There are still others that aren’t able to get help though because their state forbids it, or they are too afraid of being caught by the federal government.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) are funding many researcher to further the research and benefits of cannabinoids, THC and CBD in medical marijuana. It is believed that THC and CBD can help with killing cancer cell with radiation.
Due to a shortage of research, the studies that were taken proved that medical marijuana helps to cure cancer and protects the nerves
Several promising studies indicate that CBD may have a positive effect on breast cancer cells. A 2011 study showed that CBD kills breast cancer cells by inducing ER stress, inhibiting mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)- the protein that regulates cell growth. Marijuana, also call “cannabis” is a plant grown all over the world. In the resin of this plant are multiple variations of “cannabinoids”, according to the National Cancer Institute cannabinoids are “active chemicals in cannabis that cause drug like effects throughout the body, including the central nervous system, and the immune system” (National Cancer Institute). This being said many people would argue that anything altering the mental, or cognitive function of an individual should be made illegal, and yet many pharmaceutical drugs, as well as alcohol do just that. One active cannabinoid in cannabis is “cannabidiol” (National Cancer Institute), this cannabinoid can reduce anxiety, pain, and lower inflammation. These effects can even be harnassed without activating the cannibinoids giving the user a “high”. Many cancer patients are exposed to chemotherapy, causing high levels of vomiting and nausea, the effects of cannabidiol could greatly reduce the
First lets look at what keeps cancer cells alive, then we will come back and examine how the cannabinoids CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) unravels cancers aliveness.
Additionally, medical marijuana could also cure cancer, a vigorous disease that kills many people daily. Research shows that THC is the main cannabinoid associated with marijuana and has been recognized to contain a strong anti-cancer effect. Wai Liu, a researcher discovered that there are numerous less known cannabinoids that may decrease the growth of cancer cells in Leukemia. Liu also found out that because the cannabinoids are not psychoactive, a patient could have the anti-cancer benefits without having the high feeling associated with THC (Bekiempis 1). Thus, marijuana does not target all rapidly dividing cells like the way chemotherapy or radiation does – which leads to weight and hair loss. Rather, the marijuana attacks the cancer (Bekiempis 1). Additionally, medical marijuana has many therapeutic uses. For example, research proves that
Marijuana’s main ingredient THC is what gives off that “high feeling.” Cannabinoids are chemicals that are unique to the Cannabis plant itself. Cannabinoids are good at killing cancer cells “because they’re not psychoactive, you can actually have the benefits associated with anticancer technology but not have the feelings of high, which are associated with THC. Some cannabinoids are better at killing cancer cells and others are better at slowing their growth, so combining certain cannabinoids has a heightened effect. Plus, they do not appear to target all rapidly dividing cells the way chemotherapy or radiation does - which leads to side effects, such as hair loss. Rather, they appear to attack just the
Cannabis has cured some Cancer symptoms for many patients, “A number of studies of smoked marijuana found that it can be helpful in treating nausea and vomiting from cancer chemotherapy...studies have found that inhaled (smoked or vaporized) marijuana can be helpful treatment of neuropathic pain (pain caused by damaged nerves)” ("Marijuana and Cancer." Marijuana and Cancer. Web. 13 Nov. 2015) meaning that inhaling medical marijuana can actually help you with some symptoms that cancer does on your body. “More recently, scientists reported that THC and other cannabinoids such as CBD slow growth and/or cause death in certain types of cancer cells growing in laboratory
Cannabidiol (CBD) was first discovered in the 1940s when it was isolated from different groups conducting investigation into cannabis. Despite that early discovery, much of the attention has long been placed on Cannabis sativa L. and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) for recreational uses. While fewer studies have focused on CBD, claims of its ability treat ailments such as epilepsy, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain and schizophrenia, among other diseases, have reignited interest in the compound. Consequently, growers are now chartering a new course in their cannabis production and focusing on CBD-rich strains, while cutting down THC content in an effort to meet the gradually expanding marijuana market.
Cancer has touched nearly every American, either directly or through a loved one. Cancer develops when human cells begin to grow out of control and continuously produce new cells. Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death globally, and treatment is often time-consuming and costly.1 Treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, immunotherapy, hormones and heat.1 Cannabis is now considered to be a successful aid to these treatment methods. Cannabis contains approximately 85 known types of cannabinoids which consist of active chemicals that create a drug like effects within the human body. In studies conducted by the American Cancer Society, it was discovered that cannabis was helpful in treating nausea and vomiting, often caused
Marijuana has been proven to help in the fight and cure of neurological diseases and disorders. Toxicologist Paul Consroe believes that THC in marijuana may help tone down the spasms that people suffer with Huntington’s disease, spinal cord injuries and other disorders. His studies show that specialized proteins that serve as docks for THC, are in regions of the brain known to play a role in movement disorders. These receptors also bind to anandamide, a marijuana-like substance manufactured by the body. In a 1986 study, Consroe showed that cannabidiol, a component of marijuana, calmed the abnormal movements of five people suffering from dystonia, a condition that makes muscle spasms that contort the body(“Marijuana as Medicine“).
