To put it in scientific terms, my hypothesis is that the major impact or result of the Revolutionary War was “American equality.” By American equality, I mean only American males who owned land/property (this did not include slaves, women, or poor men who did not own property). The reason for this is that slaves were still slaves, and women did not have any additional rights post war. It seems that the initial goal or objective of the Declaration of Independence was for the thirteen colonies to become independent from Britain. The colonies wanted to become independent so that they were free to govern themselves as they saw fit “it assumes [The Declaration of Independence] that the people are the best judges of the quality of government
Shortly following the French and Indian War, the American Colonies were issued many taxes and laws, which were passed by Great Britain. The colonists believed that King George III was becoming more of a tyrant, and less like a king of England. These taxes and laws were believed to be very unfair in the eyes of the colonists, causing great conflict between Great Britain and the American Colonists. This conflict would ultimately lead to the American Revolution. The American Revolution was caused by numerous British taxes like the Tea Act, the Intolerable Acts, the Stamp Act, and the Quartering Act, resulting in resistance from the colonists.
The American Revolution was not just a spontaneous revolt over taxes some may think . There were many things that led up to the outbreak of the American Revolution, such as the Navigation Act, the Enlightenment, the Great Awakening, the French and Indian War, the Boston Massacre, and the Coercive Acts. It took many years for it to take place. This all started previously before 1775 with the first major event being the Navigation Acts of 1651.
The causes of the American Revolution go back to the beginning of salutary neglect and the French and Indian War, as well as changes in the thinking of society. The effects of these events and other factors led to pressure within the colonies, ultimately resulting in rebellion.
There were multiple causes for the American Revolution, but the most important was the violation and deprivation of rights from the American People. The American people were faced with multiple acts and taxes that violated and took away their rights. Americans were continuously being taxed after the French and Indian War by acts like the sugar act, the stamp act, the Townshend acts, the tea act, and many more(Hedtke, et al., The American Saga). Despite all the taxes being placed on the Americans and the things they would buy, they still were not being represented in the British government. The British government claimed that the Americans had virtual representation, and that British parliament represents citizens of England anywhere they
Though it is arguable whether the Revolutionary War was completely revolutionary, I believe it was revolutionary because it changed many things in America, such as it giving the colonists a feeling of more unity and equality. An image of the colonists pulling down King George’s statue supports their feeling of unity, because it shows them combining their forces to go against him(Document 1). Their defiance needed lots of unity and strength, because at the time, Britain was the most powerful country in the world, yet the colonists still defeated it. The Declaration of Independence supports their feeling of equality because of its statement of all men being equal(Document 2). If this was included by the framers of the Declaration, as their second
A great things started somewhere. For a powerful, free, and role model country like the United States of America started somewhere. The journey of our storied revolution and transformation to one of the world’s premier powers have its roots derived from Great Britain. Unjust colonial rules implanted by the King of England acted as the catalyst for revolution amongst the colonies. Once a happy family, key events triggered discussion about possible separation from the harsh rule of the mother country. The citizens of the 13 colonies were justified in rebelling from Great Britain due to the act of numerous grievances committed by the King, mistreatment and abuse by
The American Revolutionary War, an eight year war from 1775 to 1783 between the British colonies and Great Britain, was the most successful war for independence. The independent colonies, now states, broke away from the corruptive British government. Now, the new nation had to reconstruct their politics, economy, and society to become the independent country they have fought for. War debt was the primary cause for the creation of new laws to create a stabilized economy. Woman and slaves were given new roles in society.
There were many events that took place in the 1760’s and 1770’s that led to the Revolutionary war. During these years the British did many things that upset the colonists. These upset colonists would eventually get sick of all the British ways and fight for their freedom.
First, the French and Indian War altered the ideological relations between the British and its American colonies, because the colonists experienced feelings of being denied rights. As the colonists formed a barrier by choosing to relocate in North America, the colonists still viewed themselves as British, and therefore believed they deserve the same rights and freedom as their people from Britain. However, evidence from a colonial militiamen diary suggests that this vision is not reciprocated by the British. He narrates, “...and though we be Englishmen born, we are debarred [denied] Englishman's liberty. Therefore we now see what it is to be under martial law and to be the regulars, who are but little than slaves to their officers” (Document 4). The Massachusetts soldier presents an idea of feeling belittled by the British, by comparing
In 1775 the Revolutionary war began, and Americans were forced to decide to fight against the greatest army in the world or remain loyal to the king. Patriots, people who fought against Great Britain, had aspirations of being free from Great Britain. On the contrary, there were loyalists who wanted to stay loyal to the king. Although Patriots believed they were treated unjust by the king, colonists should remain loyalists because of Great Britain's equipment, money, and the colonists’ physical altercations.
“ The British are coming, the British are coming!” This is a quote often attributed to Paul Revere and his ride through Lexington and Concord, when in reality it was more so the work of Samuel Prescott and William Dawes. This is just one of the many events leading up to the Revolutionary War. The major causes of the Revolutionary War include the Acts passed by Parliament, the colonists responses and actions to the acts, and the battles and skirmishes between the British and the colonies.
In 1775, British forces in Massachusetts were ordered to disarm the American rebels and arrest the leaders. The Revolutionary War broke out on April 19, 1775 when fighting broke out the two sides (British and Americans), at the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
How far do you agree that the cause of the American Revolution was the introduction of the Tea Act in 1773?
History remembers The American Revolution as the war that freed America from the control of Great Britain. This was an important turn of events during that time because the British empire was considered one of the strongest empires. In addition, Great Britain colonized America. So for a new nation as small as they were to defeat one of the strongest empires shocked the world. The American Revolution was revolutionary for the colonists because it gave them freedom. The effect of the war was revolutionary to major groups as well. One group that it was revolutionary for were women. Women played a huge role from the start of colonization to even after the war was won. The war not only freed the colonists from the tyranny of Britain, but it
The impact of the American Revolution was dramatic that it split the colonists between loyalist, rebels, and the undecided (Schultz, 2010). It left tens of thousands of men dead and wounded. Women were left to hold together the household with the men gone fighting if ever to return at all. Moreover, the American Revolutionary war inspired other countries to fight for their freedoms and natural rights as humans. The colonists had won the independence set in place of the Old World politics the new government that allowed for voting of people who owned property. The patriotism of Americans began to swell realizing they were the first of a nation to win their impendence from a dominate ruler and start their own democracy.
