There are many early conditions that set the stage for the American Revolution in the years before 1763. For example, mercantilism, The Navigation Acts, and the French and Indian War. Three examples that led the 13 colonies to finally declare independence from England in 1776 were the Stamp Act of 1765, the Townshend Acts of 1767, and the Coercive Acts of 1774. The years before 1763 the English economic policies have evolved in response to the international trade wars. England has increased its policies on trade and the control over the colonies. Mercantilism led to the adoption of enormous trade restrictions, though, which affected the growth and freedom of colonial business. Mercantilism is a system in which a country attempts to collect wealth through trade with other countries, exporting more than it imports and increasing stores of gold. This angered the colonist because it restricted their freedoms as individuals. The Navigation Acts were also examples of mercantilism. The Navigation Acts were acts that only allowed English ships into English ports around the world, and the crew members on board had to be mostly English. This upset the colonist because it showed a level of superiority when it came to the British and the English colonist. The French and Indian War was the North American conflict in a larger war between Great Britain and France. The French and Indian war had a major effect on colonialism.
