Activism Awareness Do you think celebrity activism is a positive or negative thing? That’s the question. To me, I think celebrity activism has a very positive effect on society and should become more popular. More celebrities should become activists because activists have a long successful history, celebrity activism helps draw attention to all different kinds of issues & activism gives celebrities an opportunity to use their wealth for the good of something greater than themselves. Celebrity activism really helps out the less fortunate and gives back to the community. Since a lot of celebrities got their fame from the fans & paparazzi, they should be thanking them anyways. As you can see,

As you can see, celebrity activism helps out a big variety of problems and issues. Lastly, celebrity activism gives celebrities a chance to use their fame for something else besides benefiting themselves. Activism is “an opportunity for celebrities to use their wealth and notoriety for something greater them themselves.” (Chittom) This means that way too many celebrities care about themselves. They don’t give any consideration for
Many celebrities are looked at as role models, their behaviors and comments are always right in some people’s eyes. Although some celebrities are aware they are idols for some people and try to promote healthy behaviors and bring awareness to global issues. Other celebrities don’t bother; they act wild and make bad decisions. People look at celebrities and think “they’re wealthy and successful so I need to act just like them if I want to become wealthy and successful also.” If someone’s idol acts like a jerk then that person will think that it’s okay to act that way when it’s not.
The U.S. Chamber of Congress, will reach out to known personalities to help run campaign ads. This can make or break a campaign. Depending on the celebrity. Think about it, with the way media plays these add all the time we tend to listen to celebrities that we really like. We will listen to what their opinions are, and lobbyist know this, (in this case the special interest groups.)
According to Webster dictionary, a celebrity is defined as a famous or celebrated person. Celebrities serves as role models, heroes, cultural commentators, charity spokespeople, and political candidates. An exploration of celebrity culture uncovers changing conceptions of legitimacy, authority, and credibility at play in our culture (The Hedgehog Review, 2005) .There is a celebrity culture that has engulfed Canada, and indeed North America for a while now because celebrity culture is alluring, even to those who are embarrassed to admit it. There has been increasing infiltration of celebrity culture into politics. The media might have deliberately and unwittingly contributed in perpetuating this celebrity culture.
The influence of an athlete or celebrity’s opinion is extraordinarily more powerful than imaginable, especially if their opinions go against social norms. Their messenger ability turns into the ability to lead a movement. It is incredibly important for celebrities to use that authority, one may, say to stand up for what they believe in.
In the reading “Existentialism is a Humanism”, the author Jean-Paul Sartre presents the idea of Existentialism. He introduces this idea by stating that man’s plan in this world is not pre-determined, as we only determine who we are or who we want to become throughout life. Sartre states that a person is what a person does. He also uses a metaphoric scenario of a man jumping on a scene before defining himself. These two ideas imply that man has no ultimate meaning, and it is up to us to find it through experience and by taking action. Additionally, Sartre also implies that humans have a huge responsibility on becoming who they want to become as it is only up to them to do so, making us entirely responsible for our existence.
Activism is people who are trying to help the community and get their message across. Activism helps the community because they wanna make the world a better place and try to stop something that is bad for the community. There are over 1,000 activists all over the world.
My favorite scents would have to be the smell of dew after a strong rain, or perhaps the smell of fog. They both give off a similar feeling of mystery and calmness, a calm after the storm. It’s a smell that’s cold as metal, yet can bring you to the rolling hills of Ireland, or to a tropical tsunami in Asia. Just in the presence of it, I have the image of a calm field filled to the brim with mist, unable to see beyond the length of my arm. It’d be night, with a full moon high in the sky, but not one with apprehension, but rather one of just sleepiness and a desire to rest.
This is the new “celebritized” (Combs 123) political culture in which advocacy organizations must function. Because the media is so inundated with celebrity
Superstars whether you discern it are among the leaders of this nation. Because of their fame, they are continually in the public eye; many people; especially children, and adolescents look up to them for what they should do. For instance, when Miley Cyrus published her “Wrecking Ball” song a teenager bounded on his school’s war monument of a hanging cannonball. He then swung on it, starkly. Besides the result of wanting to regurgitate, can you now see why what celebrities do are vital to our country.
As human beings the vast majority of us wish we could change the world, whether that be helping humans, animals, the environment, it is helping those that cannot help themselves. However, we also realize to help with these causes it takes money and for the most part a great deal of it. But, some people are fortunate enough and can help change the lives of many. Being a celebrity exposes them to the public, and many celebrities take advantage of this in many ways. from endorsing sportswear to sunglasses, sometimes you even see them supporting politicians. Regardless of their interest this is important because they are trusted by their fans and are believed to be a person with morals and integrity. Sometimes you can turn on
In the reading “Small Change : Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted,” Malcolm Gladwell discusses the act of four brave college students and their act of social activism. The four freshmen from a local all black college sat down at a counter in a diner near Greensboro, North Carolina and were denied service because of their race. The students refused to leave and instead started a protest there at the restaurant. The numbers of people protesting with the four young men increased as the story spreaded across states. The story of the sit in was done without the use of any technology or social network. Gladwell discussed the effectiveness of the sit-in because of the relationship between
Admiring a celebrity could possibly be beneficial. Many people adore their favourite celebrities, following their every move and consuming every bit of information pertaining to the celebrity’s everyday life. Celebrities could take advantage of this fact to promote certain causes or charities to their followers. One instance of a celebrity using their position to promote a cause is when Angelina Jolie visited various
Today celebrities are more known just for the attention they generate and not their achievements. Turner stressed this notion and it was something I never pondered about before. Amal Clooney came to mind when reading. She is a world-renowned human rights attorney but is often only referred to as “George Clooney’s wife” by the public. Amal Clooney is a classic example of the tremendous shift from years past in how we identify celebrities and even who we identify as celebrities. In fact, today many celebrities haven’t even accomplished anything noteworthy.
People were not exposed to barrage of news about celebrities a couple of decades ago. Mass media is becoming more garden because of rapid progress on technology day by day.
