Most people know of countries like Syria and the fact that they are war-torn. However countries like the Central African Republic, although people may have never heard of them, there have, in fact, been many horrifying events that have occurred in them. War-torn countries are countries that had undergone war and are awfully poor with very little resources. Providing healthcare in these countries will give these people more opportunities to survive and live their lives which have been ruined because of terrifying wars. According to SOS-USA.org, “Central African Republic remains one of the poorest countries in Africa. While the president of the country was at a conference, the military forces of General Francois Bozize walked into Bangui, the countries capital. Francois Bozize took over the international airport and the presidential palace. This is only one of the many coup d’états that this country went through. Infant mortality rate is extremely high and sadly has not improved since the 1990s. In December 2011, because of the poor health and immune systems and many epidemics have been spreading and even taking people’s lives. However, the state of health systems for the last 20 years is difficult to overcome. Liberia and Sierra Leone were each embroiled in civil wars until the mid-2000s. Porous borders and a shared diamond belt meant that their conflicts were often shared, as political strife, violence, looting, armed forces, and refugees moved to neighboring countries. , Guinea in particular was on the receiving end of refugees. During that time in all three countries, health systems were uniformly poor, with under-staffed and under-resourced facilities, significant health disparities, and almost no systematic infectious disease surveillance or control.

A major challenge and cause of serious medical issues in Sub-Saharan Africa is the lack of access to a clean water supply. There are 345 million people that lack access to water in Africa. Unfortunately, when water is available it is high in contamination. When wells are built and water sanitation facilities are developed, they cannot be maintained properly to due to limited financial resources. Water quality testing is not performed as often as necessary and the people are unaware that the water may not be safe to drink. Oftentimes, when a source of water has been provided, the quantity of water is often given more attention over the quality of. Sub-Saharan Africa, being a tropical region, ranks as one of the hottest regions on earth. This area receives more solar insulation than several other tropical regions. Thanks to technological advancements, hot temperatures do not cause a serious problem in the developed world. In these developed areas, heat only causes problems when power supply has been knocked out by storms or other hard-to-avoid occurrences. However, in sub-Saharan Africa, millions of people do not have access to electricity from grid connections. This means that these persons live in one of the earth’s hottest regions, yet have restricted access to the technologies that would have made life bearable.
