As the MLB is having its offseason, many news is swirling around the league about the available free agents in the trade market and one of which is New York Mets pitcher Yoenis Cespedes. Rumors are now spreading that Cespedes is heading to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to join Mike Trout and try to enhance the team's offense. Cespedes who opts out with his contract to the New York Mets has made him the most sought-after player available in the trade market. He became a free agent last year but was able to re-signed by the Mets in a 3-year, $75 million contract with an opt-out clause after the first season, which he exercise this month. The Mets extend a qualifying offer to him a one-year, $17.2 million contract which he just recently rejected. The 31-year old Cuban closer is said to be seeking for a four- or five-year contract at around $100 million salary. Now, Cespedes is said to be looking …show more content…
And it seems that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are interested in acquiring him and plans to pair him with centerfielder Mike Trout. Cespedes who have averages of .280 hit, 31 home runs, and 86 RBI in the 2016 season will be a big help to American League MVP Trout. His 25 doubles, 133 OPS+, and 9.4 percent walk rate in 132 games that have won him the Silver Slugger Award will be the needed support the Angels could get. Aside from that, the Angels have the necessary cap space if ever Cespedes will insist a lucrative contract. However, it appears that the Mets is determined to lure Cespedes to stay with them. According to New York Daily News, sources are saying that the Mets are willing to give Cespedes a four-year contract at a salary range of $100-$110 million. Though reports are saying that Cespedes could get a five-year, $125-$135 million contract to other teams, the Mets might try as well to convince Cespedes to re-sign with
Bryce Harper is the player that you love to have on your own team, but opponents can't stand him! He might have a swagger that annoys opponents, but he is one heck of a baseball player and this year he is breaking out to the superstar everyone expected! He is just 22 years of age and he is one of the most feared hitters in baseball. He has battled injuries to start his career because of what some have termed too much hustle, but this year he has put all together. He is hitting .331 27 home runs and 64 runs batted in the no question NL MVP at this point in the season. He might rub fans and opponents the wrong way but he is fun to watch play baseball I just wish as a Braves fan he was in a different division.
Because of the occurrence of free agents, the average contract doubled from $51,000 to $100,000 and the regular season winning percentage of the “New York Yankees” increased as the payroll increased. From 1990 to 1991, the firms broke from the cartel and the average Major League Baseball salary rose from $578,930 to $891,188. And from 1995 to 2000, the “New York Yankees” was one of the most dominant teams, remaining competitive. Average salary had a 5200% increase from 1975 to 2002 and revenues increased from $6.4 million to $119 million during this period. Also, the baseball teams started to use media as advertising to attract more fans to come to watch their games.
Giles, 25 years old, has been with the Phillies for two season and pitched 115.2 innings in 113 games over the two years. He has an ERA of 1.56, a 11.7 SO/9, a 1.03 WHIP and has 16 career saves, 15 of which came last
Kershaw will be joining a Dodgers team that has played some of their best baseball this entire year. Since Kershaw’s last start, the Dodgers have gone 35 – 24 and don’t look to slow down anytime soon. With the return of Rich Hill and the great performances from young starting pitchers: Julio Urias, Jose
Jorge Posada has seen and been through it all, he has seen the best and worst of the team and as well put a career that might not pop out to your face as maybe the others of the Core Four. But if you look deeper, you would realize that Jorge Posada is more than ready to become the first of the Core Four and as well the 18th catcher to be enshrined in Cooperstown, New
Revere is currently sporting a triple slash line of .302/.340/.381, which is good for a 101 wRC+, which would put him behind only Adam Jones and Nolan Reimold among Orioles outfielders, although Reimold has only accumulated 67 PAs (I’m considering Chris Davis a first baseman here). Yes, his offensive production is largely dependent on batting average, which makes his acquisition a little riskier, but he’s been very consistent over the last 3 years, as the table shows.
The other day, I got into an argument about Rick Porcello. One person made that argument that if you believe in fWAR, Porcello has been good. He’s been worth 8.4 fWAR over the past 3.5 years or about roughly 2.4 fWAR per year primarily due to a strong FIP and the ability to pitch a lot of innings. If one win costs $7.5 million then paying $20 million per year is a slight but not huge overpay. Writers at Fangraphs have also argued that Porcello is underrated (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-underappreciated-and-evolving-rick-porcello/), that he’s developed nicely into a 3 win player (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/tigers-and-red-sox-swap-cespedes-and-porcello/) that moving to Boston will make him better (http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/three-things-the-red-sox-will-do-for-rick-porcello/) and that he is worth ((http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/rick-porcellos-upcoming-enormous-payday/) roughly $20 million per year (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/red-sox-lock-up-rick-porcello/). Paul Swydan, an author for Fangraphs, wrote an article in the Boston Globe suggesting that Porcello is the thirteenth best pitcher in baseball (https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/12/19/red-sox-really-need-get-ace-pitcher/mSX30HHA8zMnh1jVd0XGmO/story.html). On the other hand, I made the argument that Porcello is a slightly better version of Bud Norris. Let me explain why I made that argument and why just using one number to decide a pitcher is worth $100 million isn’t always the best
When you follow rosters, keeping up with the MLB lineups using information from sites such as FantasyAlarm.com, you know there are young pitchers making their way to the big show. Some of these pitchers clearly realize this may be their one and only chance to shine.
Much like the Cubs rented Chapman last year to help them win a World Series, the Yankees can look to rent Darvish who will be a free agent at the end of the season. Darvish would fit their present need, but giving up too much for a rental is not the best move. The more intriguing option would be Sonny Gray, who has been a silent killer lately, flying under the radar with a 1.37 ERA in his last six starts. Gray would fit in with the new look Yankees. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, earlier this week, executives from teams interested in Gray claim the Yankees are the front-runner. However, with the Dodgers heavily in the mix for Gray, that remains to be seen. Still, the asking price for Gray is steep. The Yankees of the past wouldn't blink an eye on doing whatever it takes to get what they want, but times have changed. The Los Angeles Dodgers now have the Steinbrenner philosophy.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, Jason Hammel and the Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms on two year contract with a guaranteed $16 million dollar salary.
Givens to this point is a middle reliever, but would easily project to be the Reds closer almost immediately, at a low price. Currently JJ Hoover headlines the list of potential closer options, followed by Jumbo Diaz, Michael Lorenzen & Tony Cingriani. I do not expect such a return for the Reds as I pretty much expect low-level prospects whose projected ETA will be around 2018 or 2019.
One of those pitchers is Rich Hill and was supposed to pitch on Friday against the Pirates, but now Ross Stripling will start on Friday. The Dodgers are hopeful he can come off the DL and continue his solid pitching. Rich Hill is going to be a player that will really help out the Dodgers even if he doesn’t return with his great numbers. Right now there are only 3 players who are in the starting rotation and Brandon McCarthy would be the forth, but he is only scheduled to pitch on Saturday. Rich Hill allows for some breathing space for players like Julio Urias, Ross Stripling, and even starters like Kenta Maeda, who need the extra day to prepare for their scheduled start. There have been reports that Bud Norris and even Brett Anderson might return soon too, and this would really help out the Dodgers because that’s when they would have a solid starting rotation with
In total they owed $1,050.0 to Joe Portocararo by the end of 1986. However, they already expensed the whole amount to Joe. If he gets back to the team, there will be no longer need to owe money to Joe, and paying another pitcher at the same time.
The 10 year contract which Tom Hicks and his team proposed for Alex Rodriguez was one of the biggest ever in the history of Baseball. It was a major Investment decision for the group. The Group had taken over the Dallas Stars few years earlier and spent on buying quality players. This worked wonders for the team and Dallas Stars went on to lead the group. Tom Hicks had a policy of spending 50-55% of team revenue on team payrolls. If that is maintained he always gains an operating profit of 10-15%.
He signed for $36 million over six seasons and an opt-out after five years if he has pitched 750 innings. According to his biography, he also had Tommy John surgery when he was in high school, which raised an immediate red flag among the local reporters. There were too many "what if’s" and red flags associated with Ryu as he prepared for his first season in Major League Baseball to think that he can be an impact starting pitcher coming from Korea Baseball Championship (Wells). Despite the doubts over his ability, he was determined to prove everyone wrong and had grounds for confidence. In 2006, he made a historic debut as he was named both the league's Rookie of the Year and MVP after posting an 18-6 record with a 2.23 ERA and 205 strikeouts. With an impressive performance, he garnered international recognition in 2008 as a member of South Korea's Olympic gold-medal winning team and in the 2009 World Baseball Classic (Rosenbaum). According to the scouting report of Baseball America, "he just turned 22, but he already pitches like a veteran. Ryu has four averages to above-average pitches, includes an 86-93 mph fastball with late life that he can add and subtract from when needed, a slow curve (75 mph), a tighter slider and a changeup. Already extensively tested in international play, Ryu's biggest asset is his feel
