After going through different wars and conflicts, United States became more active in foreign affairs. Eventually, the country entered into the World War 1 and Word War II. The World War 2 brought many improvements. Many incidents have happened in the history of the United States that changed the country. Some of these historical events are described below. (Peritz, 2000)
Invention of Telephone-1876
The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell and Antonio Meucci in 1876. Many other people also did research and work on the telephone in 1840s such as Charles Grafton; he identified

America entered into the War because Germany attempted to attract Mexico to attack the United States and the country attacked American passengers’ ship and blew it up. These two reasons motivated Wilson to start a War. Eventually, the War against Germany was declared on December 7, 1917. Wilson raised different points in War such as freedom of the seas, Belgian freedom, the removal of economic barriers, the creation of a League of Nations, and the impartial adjustment of colonial claims. The war continued till one year and after that, a league was formed with the name of “League of Nations”. The objective of the league was to prevent from war. In the 1920s, different people started living in America so racism issue rose. The government made different policies for better distribution of money.Another incident also motivates president to enter into the War is sinking of an unarmed French boat. After that, Germany allowed enemy merchants to abandon their ships before any attack. However, German Government accepted given terms and conditions on May 4, 1916, and these terms are known as “Sussex pledge” The war-influenced Germany, America, and many other countries that were involved in the war. The War I created inflation in the Germany and made its economy unstable. The country lost its territory and gave to Russia, Poland, and France etc. The army of the country was reduced, and western Germany was demilitarized. Simultaneously, there were social, economic, and political effects of the War I. After the War production, manufacturing, and efficiency of the country were increased. Industrial revolution came after the Great War. The economy was booming and the country had become an industrial leader. Wealth and profit were increased due to a massive rise in consumerism. Many reforms were made after the war and overall the country gained different benefits. In short, the effects of War
Beginning from the birth of the United States, a policy of neutrality and a will to stay out of foreign affairs is evident. So when archduke Ferdinand was assassinated the United States wanted to try its best to reap the benefits of the situation while avoiding joining in the conflict that would come to be known as World War 1. However, in 1917 the United States declared war on Germany despite this longstanding tradition and joined the conflict. One of the leading causes of this decision was the aggression of the German naval policy. When Great Britain set up a naval blockade to cease trade with Germany, Germany declared their U-boats would attack ships traversing those waters. This aggressive policy led to a hindrance on American trade as well as an endangerment of American citizens causing them to side against Germany. An additional factor that influenced the United States to side against the Germans In World War 1 was Allied propaganda. Since the United States was cut off from the Germans and the others of the triple alliance this was the only propaganda that they had encountered. President Woodrow Wilson’s ideology also played a factor in joining the war. Woodrow Wilson claimed that entering the war
This sent President Wilson to have a vote by congress to declare war on Kaiser and the Central Powers. Wilson would make sure this was the war to end of all wars. America would be fighting to make the world safe for democracy. Troops would not start arriving in large numbers until 1918, but their presence was felt right away as the war was to have a for sure outcome strongly leaning towards the Allies. Wilson believed this contribution would finally lead to world peace once the war was finished. The United States prepped their army tremendously as expanding to having millions of soldiers. The United States were by far the most powerful nation in the world entering the war and showed as they dominated the Central Powers. Germany’s extremely skilled air force was greatly outnumbered by the US as they were no match and were defeated. The war finally ended when Germany surrendered later that year on November 11, 1918. Following the war this left the United States in a great spot as many of the European countries were in huge war debt and lost millions of people. The United States were by far the most wealthy and powerful country in the world. Although our nation had to
Wartime is never pretty for countries that are involved. People do not like dying and families do not like family members dying either. Many times humans do not have much control over this, when a leader of their country backs another country when conflict happens. When World War I started many citizens benefited from the war because of work and many people suffered because of it. We as American now days need to understand how life was during those times so we do not ever end up that way again. World War I was a total war, citizens that could not fight in the war were put to work and people who could fight in the war went to war. Warfare changed completely with new technology being invented and with new tactics to try to defend and attack
It also demoralized the Germans and its allies. When the US landed in France they quickly spread, and reinforced the front list on the East, and West. They brought vehicles, tanks, troops, supplies, guns, and artillery. When France asked for help they were asking for reinforcements and if they could command the new US troops. The US quickly said no saying that they joined the war on their own terms, and to fight as there own army, and country. The effects of World War I on Americans and America were so big that it affected the US political, economic and socially. Unlike the countries of Europe, the factories and home in the US were protected, and not destroyed. Manufacturing, production and efficiency increased through demand during the Great War. America had become a world industrial leader and the US economy was growing in an incredible rate. Profits were increasing, which led to the to one of the greatest times in US history called the “Roaring Twenties” with a massive rise in consumerism for the wealthy. On the other hand, inflation was high and companies and corporations began to reduce wages and started to fire or remove workers to reduce total costs. Workers began to protest against this issue and 1919 saw a massive wave of strikes. Competition for employment led to racial unrest and race riots breeding hatred and suspicion which spilled over into the Red Scare and the fear of communism. [buffaloschools.org] The introduction of prohibition on certain products, and items led to the expansion of organized crime, gangsters, increased violence and massive political corruption. Internationally the US became closer to their allies, and supporting them for further causes that was continued in World War II with the US allying with France, and Britain. [american-historama.org]
The United States of America under president Woodrow Wilson was aiming to remain neutral in the war. Instead of directly being involved in the war, they instead found a way to make a profit off the war, by supplying ammunition to the British Army. Wilson was opposed to the war due to being raised up by an anti-violence minister and didn’t want American progress to halt by joining the war. America’s economic power was greatly increasing during the war due to the ability to trade with all sides and was recovering from the era of “false gold” or the “Gilded Age.” As the war progressed the United States were increasingly pressured to enter into the war by Winston Churchill and England. In addition to this the German hierarchy made multiple moves that led the United States to opposing them and feeling like they should enter the war effort against them and the communist government. Yet the reason that the United States entered the war is unclear, did they enter the war because they were focused on American benefits or did they join to make the world safe for democracy.
The article discusses the social changes that came with World War two. Women and Native Americans started working, taking jobs from African Americans. Thus, Roosevelt issued the FEPC to expose racist practices and employ minorities and migrants. As civil rights become more of an issue, discrimination increased. Japanese were sent to internment camps, Hispanics were attacked, and Indians lost their rights to vote. The NAACP, along with other African American militancy organizations, fought against this unjust treatment. Truman continued the campaign against segregation. He passed Executive Order 9981, mandating equality for all minorities. Legal inquiry to the Plessy doctrine and the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education trial started a civil rights
The United States’ involvement in foreign political affairs as a global power was minimal before the country declared war on Germany on the 6th of April, 1917, officially entering the First World War. A great deal of U.S. citizens had hitherto endorsed a policy of isolationism, admiring their President, Woodrow Wilson, for his efforts to keep the country away from the almighty European conflict. However, before entering the war, America often traded with countries of both the Triple Entente and Central Powers alliances. It became apparent that the U.S. favored Britain as a partner in trade, and so Germany tried to prevent the Entente country from receiving imported goods. Forced by circumstance, America joined the war chiefly because several German offenses against the U.S. had provoked them to counteract.
President Woodrow Wilson called for a war in Germany "to make the world safe for democracy." (McKinley). This would be an effort to establish principles for all nations to follow, which could be otherwise referred to as American principles. The world needed to be made safe for all and the threat of constant war and the taking away of people's liberties led the US to enter the war. Wilson was worried that if the US did not get involved in the war then Germany would win and be a threat to the Western Hemishphere. Americans feared that the British navy would be destructed and this would pose a threat to the US's security (America).
World War II was the largest armed conflict in history, spanning the entire world and involving more countries than any other war. It was a time of militarism, nationalism, and fascism. The combatants were the Axis powers and the Allies were the victors. World War II laid the groundwork for a lot of positive results and by the post war, major leaps of change were brought about. Despite the fact that any sane person would agree that “War is hell”, World War II was a good thing because of the technology and scientific advancements, it ensued an end to colonialization, the United States became a global power from it, and there was a social change with minorities.
War is atrocious, and World War I was a horrific event that involved the majority of Europe, and had spread like a contagious disease throughout a wide area of the globe. The United States, at first, was a self-proclaimed “neutral” force. The United States although claimed neutrality, was involved with the war, and eventually dropped its neutral standpoint and joined the Allied powers. Factors that affected the United States’ decision to abandon their neutral title included, but were not limited to; The sinking of the Lusitania, issues with foreign trade, the Zimmerman Note, the declaration of Unrestricted Submarine Warfare by Germany, and Woodrow Wilson’s overwhelming urge to make the entire globe democratic. Though they did claim to be neutral,
At first, the United States took a neutral stance toward aiding any particular side during the Great War. However, a german submarine sank the british ship Lusitania, which resulted in the deaths of 124 American citizens. Woodrow Wilson started implementing “preparedness” a program to expand the american military. The defining moment was when the United States discovered, of the Zimmermann Telegram. This german telegram was intercepted by the British, and called for Mexico to join wars and attack the United States. The war affected both government and society. First, the war had a major impact in Americans everyday lives. Such as the Selective Service Act of 1917, which required millions of men to enter the draft. For government, we got several
It all started in the year of 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. This war known as World War 2, and later said to be the “deadliest war in history,” lasting for 6 long years. The war changed how the world lived and how they acted. In the United States the communities had drives to provide scrap metals for anything they needed for tools. They rationed food, gas, and recycled materials. In Missouri they had the Scrap Paper drive then in Washington they had an Scrap Iron drive. People all over the United states listened in on radio reports about the overseas battle. Women even got jobs that were usually for men, like being an electrician or a welder, some even were involved in the war and wore uniforms.
Woodrow Wilson entered the war with a vision and was about to take the American’s on a mission. The war was not about punishing the Germans or to gain territory of the U.S. but to create an international order. Wilson wanted WWI to the war the end all wars. He soon realized that other allied governments did not share his views. The allied agreement was to take territory to end the war and to have Germany and for Germany to pay loses and expenses. Wilson wanted to make it clear to the world what the United States was fighting for.
This invention of the telegraph proved how useful long distance communication was in society. This led to more interest in data communication to occur which sparked the invention of the telephone. The telephone was invented in the 1870’s and was designed to convert sound waves into
National holidays are to celebrate or remember a person or event’s impact on the country. World War II would be a great example that this would be a great addition as a holiday. The events that took place in World War II was a horrible for not just our country but, the world. This event needs to be remembered so people can honor the soldiers and the victims who died in the war. For example the event drastically changed the world, many people are impacted by the events that took place, and history shouldn’t repeat itself to make such a horror happen again.
