Turn your wounds into wisdom-Oprah Winfrey. Imagine having to live in the wild unprepared for over two months. What traits do you think would be useful too have? I believe that any form of man would need courage, creativity, and determination for survival. I will be talking about these traits in relation to the book “Hatchet”.
First you’re going to need courage. Part of needing this trait, is that you never know what you might encounter in the wilderness. In the book “Hatchet”, our main character Brian was trying to retrieve something from the crashed plane. While using the hatchet to cut the plane open, Brian dropped the hatchet deep down into the lake. The reason that I believe Brian had courage at this point, was because he dove down

In “Hatchet”, Brian had to be creative to survive. "I can make sparks with the hatchet", Brian said in chapter 8. “Well it can fit me and it has a roof so I guess it will work” that’s what Brian said when he decided to look for shelter. To be creative you must be open minded. You must have inspiration and something to look at. Since Brian was in the middle of a quiet little piece of paradise, he had plenty to look at. Since Brian had plenty to look at, he had plenty of inspiration. He just didn’t know it yet. In chapter 11-12 Brian needed a way to catch food. So Brian took a few looks around and and saw soon find wood so he could make a fishing spear. That’s why creativity is so important for survival.
Last up in line is determination. Brian had determination, all through “Hatchet”. During the time when a tornado hit his shelter, Brian did not give up. Brian re-built his shelter and forgot about the storm, he just moved on. Also in the book Brian does not give up trying to get the survival pack. His first two attempts at making a raft failed, but his third succeeded. When Captain Shackleton had determination when his boat got wrecked in the ice. So Shackleton had
Having an older sibling is rough already, but having a brother that you have to worry about him breaking in and stealing valuables of your own, that's tough and the main character Gordie Jessup has to deal with the betrayal of his older brother, Chase Jessup everyday throughout Katherine Holubitskys’s novel “Tweaked”. Gordie’s efforts trying to fix his family are overwhelmed by Chase’s drug addiction and money debts he has with his dealers. There are many themes throughout the book.
In the play The Crucible many of the characters learn things about themselves as well as others. Discuss the insight gained by the characters of Elizabeth Proctor, Reverend Hale, and John Proctor.
Brian has been in the woods for 28 days without anyone there to help him. Brian Robeson is still alive he has just made a fire yesterday and was attacked by a porcupine two days ago. Brian was strong while being attacked he had pulled out the quills. Brian learned that he needed to stay strong and keep pushing when he was hurt that way he knew he could still start a fire and do everything. If the fire stages didn’t happen then he wouldn’t be alive today because he wouldn’t have learned how to create fire to stay warm and cook food to live.
In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor, the protagonist, is a farmer in his middle thirties. The author gives little to no detailed physical description of him, but from Proctor’s speech, we can still picture him as a strong and powerful man who is able to keep every situation under the control, the kind of personality which earns him deep respect and even fear from the people in town. On the other hand, Abigail Williams, the antagonist, plays an inferior role as an orphan who has no social status in a place like Salem. Over the course of the play, John Proctor is absolutely awakened and transformed by Abigail Williams. In the end, he overcomes the crucible by releasing himself from his guilt of
In Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, the pessimistic main character, Brian is in extreme isolation and experiences a horrible conflict. While Brian has to adapt from being his comfortable self in the city to a vulnerable life in the canadian wilderness. Brian experiences with separations is both indifference and enhancing ways. The plot brightens up by the author's main purpose, change. This essay will analyse Brian’s character, internal conflict, and the aspect of the setting.
This book is written by Gary Paulsen. It takes place in the Canadian wilderness, where Brian Robeson’s, who is 13 yrs. Old, plane crashes. Brian shows a lot of determination and strength, to be able to survive in the wilderness, with no one else.
The next character trait I chose for Brian is courageous and there is many reasons why I think this. First off, on page . it states, “A brushing sound, a slithering brushing sound near his feet-and he kicked out as hard as he could, kicked out and threw his hatchet at the sound, a noise coming from his throat. But the hatched missed… his leg was instantly torn with pain as if a hundred needles had been driven into him.” This shows that he is courageous because he went after something that he didn’t even have a clue what it was. Not everyone would do that; most people would
This book, called is about a survival story of young boy, Brian. Before I read this, just looking title on its cover, I've thought it may be about a murder case because hatchet is a kind of an ax. So I was a bit frightened and start this book with anxiety. However, the book was about a young boy whose name is Brian Robeson and he had left alone in Canadian wilderness owing to an accident.
discover characteristics you did not know you had. It requires you to be tough enough to face
Brian Robeson a 13-year-old boy from New York is the main character of Hatchet by Gary Paulson. The reason Brian is making this plane trip to Canada is because his parents had recently become divorced. His parents’ splitting is the main cause of his instability. At first Brian shows us his fear, frustration and anger. By the end of his experience of being in the wilderness most of those characteristics had changed. Brian does not only learn lessons about survival in the wilderness but life in general.
In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller was based on the Salem, witch trials when the people of the town where accusing each other of witchcraft and those held for questioning would stand trial had a choice to be valor. In Miller’s portrayal of the ghastly, sickening inquiry of witchcraft many people in the 1690’s were people of the township were maintaining guard for their beliefs; while others of the community of Salem were cowards who took the easy out of the accusations they were on trial. The townspeople of Salem are going through a day people are courageous even in a way others could not be or were never suppose to be. Those characters display their courage in the town at the time of need, John Proctor is a selfless man when only stating
It is a common experience: a woman dates a man who is rude to everyone except for her. He makes her feel special, but a few months later, he becomes an abusive, controlling boyfriend. Walter Younger from the play “A Raisin In The Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, while not an abusive person is a milder example of this phenomenon. He is the father in a large African American family, and lives with his mother, sister, wife, and young son. His father has recently died, and his mother, Lena, receives an enormous check from their life insurance. They need this money, as they live in a small house and need to move to a larger one, but Walter wants to invest the money into opening a liquor store instead. Although the play seems to revolve around him, Walter
When Brian awoke he was really thirsty. He went to the lake and drank a lot of water from there. There was another problem, he found himself really hungry too. He did not know what to eat. He didn't want to think about another thing too. How far he went off his original destination course. They might not find him for along time and also he needed shelter. He could not make a fire. The only tool he had was a hatchet.
