Welcome to Eden Falls, Washington,
where small town charm mingles with the demands of daily life.
Misty Garrett has a husband, a lovely Seattle home, and a new baby. Living what seems the perfect live brings little happiness when her heart is mired in past anger and sorrow. Misty’s own mother abandoned her when she was six, which she blamed on a passive father and small town life. When she learns her mother lives in Sacramento, she leaves Eden Falls in search of the love she’s longed for since childhood. Once there, she deals with the harsh realities of her mother’s true character, while seeing too much of herself in her mother’s actions.
Beam Garrett never imagined himself as a father, but now that he is, he’ll do anything to protect
In the book The Body in the Woods by April Henry there is a contrast/contradiction moment where Ruby’s parents don’t allow her to go on the SAR search. The book states that, “Ruby had an excruciating awareness of her own strangeness. No matter how hard she tried, she found it impossible to fit in. Being friends with Alexis had helped.” This shows that Ruby normally doesn’t fit in, but when she joined SAR the only girls were Alexis and her, so she felt she fit in a little bit when she had a friend. Another piece of evidence states that, “ ‘You’ll go to school tomorrow, not the sheriff’s office. And you’ll contact the SAR and tell them you’re going to have to withdraw from the group... Anger made Ruby rigid, locked her rebuttal in her throat.”

In the book Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson there is a 13 year old girl by the name of Isabel she is an African American slave fighting for her and her sisters freedom, while the Revolutionary War is happening in New York city in the year of 1776-1777.
The novel, East of Eden, by John Steinbeck references to the bible quite a bit when describing some of the characters. Steinbeck refers to the story of Cain and Abel, two brothers who lived in peace until Cain slaughtered Abel. One day the two boys were to offer sacrifices to god; Abel offers his best lamb and Cain offers grain to god. God prefers Abel’s gift over Cain’s and in a jealous fit of anger Cain murders Abel. After this God comes to talk to Cain about what he had just done and in doing so he banishes Cain to “the land of Nod, east of Eden”(Genesis 4:16). Steinbeck uses a few Cain like characters throughout the novel to illustrate the reality of humanity; jealousy and favorability shapes our society and the way people act. There is no place to escape one's baser nature besides death’s home; steinbeck shows this through Cal Trask, Charles Trask, and Tom Hamilton.
The novel East of Eden by John Steinbeck revolves around two families, the Trask family and the Hamilton family. Samuel Hamilton an Irish Immigrant, father of nine, and husband to Liza Hamilton meets the Trask family when Adam Trask would need help with an irrigation system for his new farm, when he moved to the Saliana Valleys during the Homestead Act. Samuel Hamilton becomes very close with the Trask family and even birth?? Adam and Cathy's son. After Cathy shots Adam in the shoulder and runs away from him, Samuel will help him. Along with Samuel Hamilton, Lee a chinese immigrant and housekeeper for the Trask family also help Adam while in his depression, and become a ‘mother’ like figure to the twins. Adam’s, Samuel’s, and Lee’s
In A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park, Salva shows that when you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.
In the long, winding road of life, youth are often lost, in need of some direction. And while they traverse this road, mothers, or at least motherly figures, act as their guide, providing assistance for the many tough decisions that are scattered throughout this road. Similarly, in Sue Monk Kidd’s The Secret Life of Bees, the motherless protagonist, Lily Owens, is traversing adolescence. Eventually, her adventures as a runaway lead her to a bright pink house in Tiburon, South Carolina, where she discovers many women to whom she can look for guidance, love, and support. Through Lily’s relationship with these women, preconceived notions about mothers are shattered and a whole new conceptualization of motherhood is presented as Lily is able to look to not one, but many women as a motherly figure and finally love herself.
Through this novel we see Lily grow, we see her come of age and mature. Her search for her mother lands her in a place she would have never expected to go but where she was always meant to be. She fills the void of her lost mother with all the amazing women she now has in
Alex Lickerman,a psychologist, gives a very detailed description of how he portrays a hero. Many people are considered heroes for minor things. A hero is not about giving money to charities or visiting people in need. Although these deeds are productive, it does not make people a hero for doing these actions. A genuine hero will risk their life or try to save a life.Heros, are not looking to be rewarded for their actions. People simply do these deeds, because they want to make a difference in helping others. They should support people in time of need. The person I chose that qualifies as a hero is Richard Nares. He has started a program to help children receive chemo, who are unable to transport themselves. Nares travels around the country for children, he hopes to give hope and he has a major support system supporting him.
“An unbelieved truth can hurt a man much more than a lie. It takes great courage to back truth unacceptable to our times. There's a punishment for it, and it's usually crucifixion.” ― John Steinbeck, East of Eden. Telling the truth is not the easiest thing to do, this is because not most people are scared of what the consequence or don’t know how to tell someone the truth or how you feel.
In East of Eden, John Steinbeck explores how the personality trait of vulnerability affects an individual. He shows this through Cal (Caleb) Trask’s result in his defensive position from society and a desire to change himself.
In Keepers of the lost Cities, Shannon Messenger includes many different types of elves in her book. Most have a unique talent or power, and they are all given a role to go along with their power.
Weslyn, Connecticut is a place where most of the people worry about what to be seen in around and who their with, Emma Thomas would rather not be seen at all. She focuses her concerns on feigning perfection—pulling down her sleeves to conceal bruises, not wanting people to know how far away from perfect her life really is. One day a a boy shows up at school and Emma is seen. He is relentless and she finds unexpected love. This newfound love challenges her to recognize her own worth―at the risk of revealing the terrible secrets she’s been so desperate to hide.
In East of Eden Steinbeck portrays Cathy as a near – inhuman creature of seemingly inherent evil, the idea of timshel implies that she has power to choose her own path. I personally feel like Cathy was born a moral monster rather than she becoming one on her own. Yes, she was born like any other person but she always had a different aroma than most people that set her different from most.
