Hi Peeps, Today's Quote You cannot believe the current state of a corrupted person, organization, or government by their language and promises-- since they will not do honest and good work." ~ Jon Barnes Wicked Reputation
It takes time to build up a wicked reputation, and only by the will of God can this situation be reversed. Your actions tell the true story about you character and you will consistently behave in such a manner. It is hard to hide this ugliness from everyone, so pay close attention to your family and address these issues properly in love and God's Speed! Like a wild current, your evil will be swept away, along with your soul, like hot lava into the pits of hell, if you don't repent and change your wicked ways and
The play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, takes place in the town of Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. This time in Salem, witchcraft was suspected of almost everyone in the town. Preserving one’s reputation becomes recurring concept throughout the play. The witchcraft accusations are usually made by people that have a biased view against others, which is why everyone tries to make sure their reputation looks well with the rest of the town. This concept is proven through the characters of John Proctor, Reverend Parris and Reverend Hale. These three characters go to great lengths to protect what the town of Salem thinks of them.
1st Many pieces of evidences can be used to support the fact that Sucker was indeed a fully-fledged living individual; however, I think he could also have been a figment of Pete’s imagination out of psychological need. As Pete is the only child it would seem obvious that he would want to create another character to help him cope with his daily life and escape that sense of isolation. Sucker portrays many characteristics that could be that could be interpreted as being human. We can see this by seeing the way his personality develops over time. “Now that Sucker has changed so much it is a little hard to remember him as he used to be.” During the story, Sucker was very co-dependent upon the care and attention of Pete. It all went downhill when Pete’s relationship with Maybelle started to come to an end. At first, when Maybelle and Pete were talking he would talk to Sucker more, but as soon as that came to a stop, Pete would bring his anger out on Sucker. As a result, we can tell from “until I would get back from high school,…like he had something to say to me or wanted me to tell him” that Sucker
The witch trials in this play were based on actual events that happened in Salem in 1692. Arthur Miller’s 1953 The Crucible is a dramatization of the Salem Witch Trials. His reasoning for writing it was because everyone was hysteric about the Soviet Union and communism trying to make its way over to the United States. It was like a modern day witch hunt. In the play, Abigail Williams and a group of girls get caught in the woods. They were dancing and doing other things that puritan’s looked down upon. The girls were caught by Reverend Parris, and soon after his daughter became ‘ill’. The girls then started saying that witches came to them and told them to do bad things. They sent innocent people to hang. After studying Arthur Miller’s
In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, it takes place in Salem, Massachusetts during colonial America. Throughout the story a group of girls makes accusations a mass of people of practicing witchcraft, one of the worst crimes to commit during that period, and people are being sentenced to hang for denying witchery. In the Crucible there are many lessons that Arthur Miller wants to teach you. To me a lot of the lessons that were taught in this story are important but I feel like one of them is the most important. Arthur Miller demonstrates that one of the lessons implied in the story is people’s character and how it affects those people and others. Examples of character are Giles Corey, John Proctor, Abigail Williams.
The Crucible is set in the seventeenth- century Salem, Massachusetts during the Salem witch trial. It starts of with Reverend Parris, a man very concerned about his reputation, accusing his orphaned niece Abigail Williams of taking part in witchcraft after his daughter is unconscious after dancing in the woods. A technique used by Parris is characterization, which utilizes the thoughts, actions and dialogues in the construction of characters. Arthur Miller uses characterization to build the character of Reverend Samuel Parris as arrogant , selfish, and deceptive.
In The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller involves a character named John Proctor, an even-tempered farmer, who cared about how others saw him as. Procter was a married man to Elizabeth Proctor and a father of three as well. Throughout the book, Procter is shown as a man obsessed with his status to protect his name. The following quote says “... there is evidence to suggest that he had a sharp and biting way with hypocrites. He was the kind of man--powerful of body, even-tempered, and not easily led….”, this shows he was the type of a person to unleash his temper with people often, although it was good because he was well known for revealing hypocrisy. This gave him honor in his town and respect by his
In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller was based on the Salem, witch trials when the people of the town where accusing each other of witchcraft and those held for questioning would stand trial had a choice to be valor. In Miller’s portrayal of the ghastly, sickening inquiry of witchcraft many people in the 1690’s were people of the township were maintaining guard for their beliefs; while others of the community of Salem were cowards who took the easy out of the accusations they were on trial. The townspeople of Salem are going through a day people are courageous even in a way others could not be or were never suppose to be. Those characters display their courage in the town at the time of need, John Proctor is a selfless man when only stating
Throughout the Crucible there are many themes taking place. One I always seem to notice is protection of their reputation and self image. Usually the person you see it from the most is Abigail. She is constantly blaming other people or freaking out when someone's about to throw her under the bus. Abigail doesn’t want to be thrown into jail or hung for her crimes. An example of her freaking out or blaming someone would be in the courthouse. Hale says “I believe him! Pointing at Abigail: This girl has always struck me false! She has -.” Abigail then freaks out and starts pointing at the ceiling. She screams and says “You will not! Begone! Begone, I say!” Another example of Abigail protecting her image is when she’s talking to her uncle and says
This quote is a great example of how the government tells you what you want to hear & also what you want to hear. Furthermore they can make you believe anything. Change is camouflaged and the one who can change the country is a law breaker.
“Everyone in society should be a role model, not only for their own self-respect, but for respect from others.” ~ Barry Bonds. In this world bad situations occur frequently and it takes a good strong person to handle them in a mature way. Dealing with them this way not only shows that the person has self-control, but also makes them a good role model for people to look up to. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok uses Mr. Galanter to express his opinions of a good role model. Acting as a baseball coach and gym teacher, young boys look to him for guidance and motivation every day. Having this kind of position causes stress at times, and requires him to stay calm and level headed. Throughout this book, Mr. Galanter
American playwright and theatrical figure in the twentieth-century, Arthur Miller, once said, “Betrayal is the only truth that sticks.” Though he did not include this quote in the context of his famous work, The Crucible, his wise words can also be relevant in this play. The play takes place during the era of the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. In his composition, he includes the story of Mr. and Mrs. Proctor, a married couple living outside of Salem in the time period of the trials. Abigail Williams, the family’s servant, has an affair with Mr. Proctor, which becomes a greatly kept secret before prior to the events of the play. Proctor then fully experiences the consequences of betraying his wife, which include shame of betrayal and fear of
In the Crucible Play written by Arthur Miller women are portrayed in many different ways, but there are mainly 3 which are good, moral, and upright people. Other characteristics can be the complete opposite with these different type of women. The author Miller did not intend on portraying himself as a feminist, but he also doesn’t condemn all women to make them appear as “spotless” either. In the play he tries to show a balance of different people so that the story can be more believable, because the more personalities in different characters, the more realistic a story can portray. One of the characters that plays as a catalyst throughout the whole play is Abigail, she represents clearly as an antagonist, liar, thief, and is known for being a very manipulative person.
Bad things happen from people making decisions based on lies and fear, but evil things
Peoples reputation is the most value thing they possess and there's many different ways people maintain it. In the Crucible reputation was extremely important in a town where social standing is tied to someone's ability to follow religious rules. Your good name or reputation is mainly the only thing they had for people to judge them on. In Good Night and Good Luck Ed Murrow strongly believed in having a good reputation and kept solidly planting his ideas of “truth with diligence” through the whole thing. Both of these show great examples of how people try to maintain their reputation.
These days leaders need to be honest and make their words mean more than their actions. Leaders should not be lying to citizens about how they are going to help the government. “Those who have not mastered
