Alimou Diallo 9/20/16 Ms. Troy & Nation Honor Society Committee National Honors Society I’m a smart, hardworking, determined, courageous, and generous individual. Unfortunately, during my 9th-grade year at Hyde Leadership Charter School, I didn’t display these characteristics. I faced challenges such as missing class time because I was in the Dean’s Area and serving detention. But I am a student who wants to grow and become a great leader. Over the summer I figured out that there was no way I could be both a leader and a troublemaker, so I decided to make a change. I decided to hang out with other people, leaving my old group of friends behind. I’ve found a group of friends that could support me, help me grow, and helped me …show more content…
For scholarship I Also I get good grades and try to be good role model. For example, I took and passed my Global Regents as a Freshmen because I showed readiness by consistently participating and showing good work ethics. Even though I wasn’t in the honors class I felt ready to face the challenge as a Freshmen. What made me want to take to take this exam was to prove it doesn’t matter if you’re in the honors class or not just work hard. I’ve talked to the current and the upcoming freshmen about negative and positive things I went through as freshmen so they don’t make the same mistakes I did or so that they can do the same positive things I did. For leadership, I participate in class and encourage my peers to do the same. I help make sure my peers comprehend what we have learned. In sports, I push my teammates to get better but have fun at the same time. I start practices when my coach is running late and when my coach is out talking to someone I continue the practice. For service, I and my Mosque went out on August 17, 2017, and collect cans of food and a collection for $350 and sent it to Sierra Leone because of the flood /mudslide and for the people who lost their homes and family. We also ran a food drive to give back to the community and helped the homeless. For character, I show all the five words Integrity, Leadership, Courage, Curiosity, Concern and also Brother’s
Being a part of National Honor Society means that I am held at a higher standard than most students. I am to uphold the four pillars of National Honor Society, which are service, scholarship, leadership, and character. All four aspects of NHS have been important in my life and have shaped me into who I am today. Being involved with and serving my community has given me a better understanding of the needs of a community. I have had the opportunities to help people, which brings me joy, and gives me a way to reach out to my surrounding area. Being a good scholar has meant the world to me all of my life and it has begun to pay off. I see myself excelling in areas of life that some struggle. It has also helped me get into good colleges and have
To be a leader, others need to believe in you and believe that you are making the right choices daily. I am a leader, in a way, because people come to me for help and I make time for them. Now, one way that a scholarship trait can be demonstrated by character is the responsibility of a student to spend time and learn new ideas and facts and implement these ideas in their daily lives. Finally, one way that a service trait can be shown through character is by caring about the community and the school. One way of doing this is if you notice something wrong or something that can be better in the school or the community, you should contact the school principal or a neighborhood organization and tell them what you believe and don’t expect anything back, such as money or awards. I plan on doing things like this next year, including a debate club, a gardening club, and a tutoring
Throughout my high school career I have demonstrated the four pillars that the National Honor Society is built upon: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
As a National Honors Society student one of the four qualities we are to exhibit is service. I exhibit the quality of service by taking out time to go over and beyond the norm to help others, and the community. I have been helping the community and others ever since I was a child. Being an active member at my church, I remember in my elementary years helping feed the homeless at the City Union Mission. My time spent at the City Union Mission impacted me till this day, and now I prepare meals after church for the men that come to worship service. As a Christian it is important to show humility, and to not take pride in myself. I am taught to not be selfish, hateful, or ungrateful, I use what I am taught by my family, the Bible, church, and
The National Honors Society has four necessary qualities, that if done correctly are the pillars of success. Scholastic accomplishments shows how involved in learning a person is. Those that are more involved often have more accomplishments. Everyone has strengths in their personality. Those strengths makes a person unique and helps them become a contributing never of society. National Honors Society is a group of community leaders that bring out the best of others in their community. Helping others is an important aspect because in order to be a good leader, it is necessary to help others. I believe I am an exceptional candidate for membership due to my academic accomplishments from childhood to modernity, my personality that includes empathy, creativity, and belief nothing is impossible; my leadership skills shown through directing, and helping the community through reaching out to the next generations.
I am greatly appreciative of this opportunity to be a part of the honored students in the National Honors Society. Ever since I learned about the prestige of this organization I wished to one day join, and seeing my two older sisters be apart of the society must have been a contributing factor as well. Through the years I have learned to take calculated risks, how to grow emotionally and spiritually, the value of hardwork, and how to learn. I take pride in who I am turning out to be, constantly finding ways to do the right thing no matter how hard it is, and never ending my pursuit for learning and improvement.
After being inducted into National Honor Society my junior year, I have been working with children at Matoaca Elementary School on a weekly basis to gain the community service hours the honor society requires. I work alongside the computer teacher to assist in helping kindergarteners learn how to use a computer. Many of these children had never used a mouse or a keyboard, and some didn't know all of their numbers and letters. The progress they have made since September has made me very proud of them, and the educational activities they do on the computer has helped them improve their math and reading skills. Before I started to volunteer there, I had never been exposed to an environment where I was to fill the role of an educator and role model
I think my excellence and requirements are perfect for being a member of the National Honor Society. I show great leadership and service inside and outside of school. I think it would be such an honor to be a part of such a great society. I feel as if I would be a great addition to the N.H.S. My character is also outstanding because I always try to stay positive and help people out.
Academics, Service, Leadership, and Character. The four pillars of National Honor Society have been a guiding principle of my decisions for the past three years. In order to be successful, an individual must strive to excel in these four areas. Over my time in the club I have worked hard to be successful academically, give back to my community, be a leader in National Honor Society, other clubs, and in the classroom, and have a good character. By the pillar of service I decided to join Key Club, which is a volunteer service club. The pillar of leadership encouraged me to be an officer in FFA, Key Club, SADD, and National Honor Society. The Academic pillar has motivated me to keep my grades up na drecieve honor roll and academic letters throughout
It is a great privilege to be considered as a member for the National Honor Society. This organization being based on grades, service, leadership, character, and scholarship is exciting to me personally because I work hard not only to achieve these principles, but to display them to others as well. I make it a point throughout my day to offer help, encouraging words, and a smile to the students that I am in contact with. I demonstrate leadership and class on the basketball court by working hard, along with exhibiting a positive attitude toward the referees, my coaches, my teammates, my opponents, and myself. This honor would mean the world to me because I strive daily to demonstrate each of the qualities that this society represents.
Some fathers might disapprove catapulting a baseball at their five year old daughter, but mine did not. After the baseball left my father’s hand, I moved my glove up to catch it. As if in slow motion, the baseball rolled off the tip of my glove and smashed itself right into the bridge of my nose. For some odd reason, my father believed that a five year old could catch a baseball flying at 40 mph. More shocked than in pain, I grabbed my bleeding nose and ran into the house with my father following behind me. A very concerned mother prodded my father. Worried about the blood emerging from my nose, she mashed tissues and towels into my face. Small mishaps, such as this, shaped me into who I am today: A passionate, ambitious, and unconventional leader.
Over the years I have encountered many road blocks, none of which I hadn’t been able to overcome. My freshman year I had been cut from the volleyball team after working so hard over the summer to improve my skills. I admit, I felt extremely put down by this turn of events but if that had never happened, I wouldn’t have found the sport I love more, cross country. On top of that, I received and application for National Honors Society last year, and I was ecstatic. However, when I didn’t quite make it in, there was a determination in me to find a way to better improve the skills required to qualify to be a part of this amazing group of people. Those events shaped my character deeply. I also had the amazing opportunity to go on a mission trip to
What qualities determine if someone is a leader? I consider myself a leader not because of superior grades or high intellect but because I try to lend a helping hand whenever possible. I set an example for my peers by devoting myself to the school and offering my time for the benefits of others.
Any person who leads a group of people knows that successful leadership mandates responsibility for the status of the group. Though the status may change, the fact that the leader is significantly responsible for the status does not. Unfortunately, a negative status often encourages the group to point fingers at the leader, while a positive status encourages the group to pat itself on the back. However, if there is any wisdom I have gleaned in my seventeen-and-a-half year existence, it is that lamenting human nature is as useful as trying to appease a spontaneous, 9:55 PM Chipotle craving (my nearest Chipotle is twenty minutes away, and it closes at 10:00 PM). As a leader in times of great status and poor status alike, I know very well that
The world has an abundance of books, but the most important and interesting story, by far, is our own. The chapters in these books tell stories of extraordinary events and accomplishments throughout our lifetime. However, some of us struggle to get through certain sections of this story. There is one chapter I have yet to finish and it is named “NHS acceptance.”
