Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born Michael Luther King Jr. he was the second child of Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr and Alberta Williams King. Growing up, he attended Booker T. Washington High School. He skipped the ninth and the twelfth grade. He went to Morehouse College at the age of 15 without graduating from high school. Later, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. He became a minister at the age of 18. He was ordained in his father’s church. He later married Coretta Scott and they had two sons and two daughters. Martin Luther king lived a rough journey.

While Martin was growing up, there were a lot of problems with racism and people of color were not able to acquire as good of an education as white people. Despite these harsh conditions, Martin still had an excellent education growing up. “Martin Luther attended segregated public schools in Georgia, graduating from high school at the age of fifteen; he received the B. He had a first hand view on the terror of slavery, since he had experienced it as a boy. He had attended many civil rights campaigns, one of which including the women's suffrage rally. Also attending the rally were abolitionists Antoinette Brown and Susan B. Anthony. These people were all victims of unfair treatment who would later help change U.S society.

He began high school at the age of fifteen, also managing his first job as a paperboy. Attending Booker T. Washington High School, Martin was an advanced student. He skipped both the ninth and eleventh grades and entered Morehouse College in 1944 within the same year. King was a determined student and popular with his classmates. While deciding on a career path, he hopped from wanting to become a fireman, to doctor, to lawyer (Rothman, 1). Martin questioned his religion and this discomfort continued through his adolescence. This led to him renewing his faith and finally deciding on following the footsteps of his father and becoming a minister. Concluding his senior year at Morehouse in 1948, Martin Jr. earned a sociology degree. He then attended the Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania. King finished as valedictorian of his class in 1951. During his last year in seminary, Martin came under the guidance of Morehouse College President Benjamin E. Mays who influenced King’s spiritual development. Mays helped Martin see Christianity as a potential force for social change.
