How would you feel about jumping off a 50 foot cliff?scared?brave?Or excited?Vinny and Joe-boy are both characters in a story called”The Ravine”.They are best friends who live in Hawaii and go to a ravine to cliff jump and swim.there was a boy who died two weeks and one day before they arrived. Joe-boy and vinny are different in many ways and they are similar in some ways.
One characteristic of Vinny is that he is scared. On Pg 7 Vinny was scared of getting caught going to the Ravine by his mom. She told him to stay away from the Ravine. He goes anyway, but is scared of getting caught. Another characteristic of Vinny is that he is weak. On page seven, Vinny says, “He was so weak, he couldn’t even say ‘no’. But if I said ‘no, my mother wouldn’t like it’ they would have laughed him right off the island. No choice. He had to go.” This quote from VInny shows that he is weak because he can’t stand up to his friends. Vinny is also afraid of heights. On pg 7, Vinny says, “He couldn’t imagine what it must feel like to be up there, especially if you were afraid of heights like he was.” This line shows that Vinny is scared of heights.

Willy's son Happy constantly stands in biff's shadow while Lyons is Troy's son from a different mother who never saw Troy through his childhood due to Troy being in jail, unlike Corey, so its almost as if he stands in Corey's shadow as well though Troy nor Rose treats him any differently. Unlike Willy and Linda, who seem to put more attention towards Biff than Happy. So it seems that the boys all have similarities between them but the way they are treated by their mother and father are where the differences lay.

Doe Zantamata once says, “Differences and similarities are equally as easy to see, it mostly depends on which ones you are seeking to find.” In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton two of the main characters, Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston or Dally, have many similarities and many differences. Johnny and Dally both have bad and abusive parents, and they think of the gang like their family. The differences are, Johnny is not a fighter and does not enjoy fighting like Dally does. Johnny dies a hero and Dally dies a violent hoodlum. If Johnny and Dally are exactly the same or very different, the story would be very different and a lot of key parts in the story would not be the same and as meaningful.
The first thing that Janie and Joe have in common is their love for sugar and water. In addition, Joe is goal oriented and dreams big whereas Logan’s dreams only extended as far as the sixty acres of land he owns. Janie has big dreams as well and felt suffocated by
A distinct difference between the two Greasers are their personalities. Johnny is a very innocent kid. He tries to never break the rules throughout everything he does. “‘Shut up about last night! I killed a kid last night. He couldn’t have been over seventeen or eighteen, and I killed him. How’d you like to live with that?”’(74). Johnny kills Bob Sheldon as an act of self-defense because Bob is drowning Ponyboy. This is Johnny’s first ever crime, he does not have a record with the police and is usually very law abiding. Johnny also wants to turn himself in, as he feels guilty. Dally on the other hand, loves to break the rules. He is always getting into some sort of trouble and does not care when he does. “‘Dallas has a record with the fuzz a mile long”’(95). Ponyboy, Johnny and Dally are in the hospital because of the fire in the church. Ponyboy is talking to a guy about the heroic event, and Ponyboy tells him how they are greasers and punks. He tells him about how Dally was in a gang in New York and is always in and out of jail. Dally and Johnny have complete opposite personalities, yet a very close friendship.
They both grow up in bad neighborhoods with drugs and violence. Both had their experience in the trouble in the streets. Their individual qualities guide them to different fates. An example of a quality that
He must convince himself and others that he is a very important figure and he does this by denying his insecurities. Another obvious characteristic he shows throughout the novel is that he enjoys having status among the group of friends. He wants to be the one who is threatening, and above all the other boys. He doesn’t like it when people insult him or get in his way, as in doing something, which he dislikes, or someone saying something, which disagrees with him. We can see this when he says ‘We know how to deal with tuchusleckers here’ he says this to Hersh when Duddy was giving MacPherson a hard time and Hersh told Duddy to ‘Leave him alone’.

It did not sit right with them. The men got out of the car and started taunting the two boys. Johnny did not feel good about this because one of the men that were standing in front of him had recently jumped him. He was scared for life. Johnny promised if anyone tried to jump him again he would kill them. This was not a lie. Pony was grabbed by Bob and he attempted to drown Pony in the nearby fountain. Johnny was angry at the fact that his friend could possibly die in front of his eyes. Johnny pulled out his 6 inch switchblade and stabbed Bob to death in hopes of saving Pony, that's exactly what he did.
Byron and Kenny show similar traits throughout the book. A trait they share is that they can both be grumpy. One example of Byron being grumpy is after his dad shaves his hair off. Byron is mad and mopey. When Kenny, his brother, was teasing him about his shaved head, Byron punched Kenny hard in the ear. An example that shows Kenny can be grumpy is when LJ Jones, his old friend, takes his toy dinosaurs. After that Kenny never speaks to LJ again. A second trait that both Byron and Kenny share is that they are both caring toward people who are close to them. For instance, when Kenny told Byron about how Joetta was all fussy over all the coats she had to wear to school, Byron talked to her and said that if she doesn’t wear all of her coats, she would become frozen and then get dumped in the back of a garbage truck and never be seen again. As soon as she heard that she stopped being fussy. One example for Kenny is when he shared his sandwich and gloves with Rufus. This was caring
Joe is abandoned, on more than one occasion, by his father. This leaves him with a desire for a place to call home, as well as a strong sense of independence. Though he initially approaches rowing with his desire to remain independent of others, he finds, once he lets his guard down, many of his teammates are similar to himself. The boathouse and the team become the family and home he never had. He eventually finds he can even trust them.
Even when he was young and still living with Day, Ethel, and Galen, he was described as “the meanest, angriest child any Lacks had ever known…” (Skloot 112). His brothers were doing fine, but Joe was getting himself into trouble. Once he drops out of school, he is tried in court and eventually goes into the military, however he was violent with the other soldiers and was “discharged for an inability to adjust emotionally to military life” (Skloot 145). He left the military “angrier than ever” and within a few months he gets himself into more trouble.
Benjamin and Finny behave in different ways, but they also behave very similar to each other. They both are great at talking their way into getting what they need or want. Benjamin and Finny also care about their friends and those around them. They want to make sure that their friends are happy and
*Joe lived in a small village where everyone knew everyone and that worked at a disadvantage for Joe because nobody liked him. Joe was a small, skin and bones kind of kid. Most boys of his age could carry a bushel of fire wood no problems where Joe would be lucky to bring 3 pieces of wood. Every boy’s dream in his town would end up fighting for the king one day as one of his knights and only one boy would be chosen to be the head knight and marry the king’s daughter princess Gina. Joe knew that he would never
