“Do you want to go the the planetarium with us this weekend?” my mom texted me in the middle of the week, “Sure,” was my reply but I was still unsure. I’ve lived in Anamosa my whole life and have only visited a handful of larger cities like Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Omaha, Des Moines, Minneapolis, St. Paul...okay so maybe a little more than a handful, but that doesn’t matter. What I was worried about was the amount of people.
Saturday morning, October 14th, 2017, was when we departed for Chicago. By we I mean me my mom, and my brother Jaxon. Earlier in the week was my brother’s birthday and he wanted to go to the Chicago planetarium and see Lake Michigan again because he had gone with my mom and sister, Amelia, a month prior. That was under
Eventually the day I dreaded came. On February 12th, 2016 the four of us, my mom, dad, sister, and I, embarked on a journey that, little did I know, would change my outlook on sailing forever. Once I stepped foot on the Disney Wonder I told myself “It’s Disney, what could go wrong.” As soon as I walked into the stateroom I jumped on my bed and unpacked.
It was on a frigid, dark autumn night that I entered this wonderful world. November 13, 2000, the date, almost November 14th. My siblings had no idea that my name would be Clayton Wayne Griep, and that minutes before midnight on that night I was their brand new brother. A few days later I would leave that hospital in Zeeland, Michigan and be welcomed to my new house, at 4096 Marion St. in Hudsonville, Michigan. Two of my siblings were more than excited to see me, but one didn’t have any idea what was going on. Cam, who was not even a year old, unbeknownst to him, had a new roommate. Jordan, who was in the 2nd grade at the time, was eager to meet me, his eyes constantly locked on me. Jalen, using her newly found vocabulary, probably babbling
1. The earth’s sun is a star, it generates heat and light through nuclear fusion.
What do you think we would do if someone from anther planet landed in the U.S and claimed it as his territory because he had discovered it? How would you feel about this?
Buchenwald concentration camp was cd one of the first and largest camps. It was built in 1937 in a wood area. There was about 110,000 prisoners.at lest 56,000 died in buchwald. Also 2,000 live in buchwald. Buchwald closed in 1945. That what I'm talking about buchenwald concentration camp.
While in Chicago, Kaitlyn rode a train for the first time in her life. She also went to the Sears Tower, which to this day has been the highest building she has ever been in. She went to Missouri to see her cousin, and her family decided to take a longer trip to go sight seeing. Kaitlyn’s most memorable part of the trip was when her family went to the City Museum of St. Louis. Kaitlyn loved all the sculptures and architecture there, but what she remembers most was on top of the museum. While her family was up there, Kaitlyn’s five year old brother Jayden climbed this huge praying mantis slide on a windy day. Kaitlyn had to get him down, but was still afraid of heights. However, Jayden was in danger, so Kaitlyn stepped out of her comfort zone, faced her fear, and got her brother down safely from the slide. Kaitlyn went on to visit even more locations around the US. Her favorite being South
One of the most familiar constellations in the night sky aside from the Big and Little Dipper is Orion, the Hunter. Made identifiable by the three bright stars that make up "Orion's Belt", Orion is easily recognized throughout the world due to the convenient position upon the celestial equator, allowing the constellation to be seen from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. I chose this constellation as my favorite because it was, in fact, one of the first myths that I had ever learned, and also because it was the easiest constellation that I was able to find from my Constellation Atlas as a child. The constellation of Orion is comprised of mostly of blue stars: young, hot burning, giant stars that range from 243 light years to 1,359
Today was our field trip to the haunted USS Edson and the planetarium. It started out fun until I sat on a fruit chew on the bus and had to have that on me all day. Besides that event, Sydney took the fact that we were all ready for ghost to pop out any moment, or Paul, and used it to her advantage. She would hide in little escape cubbies in dark rooms then pop out once we had thought Paul took her. She would also bang on metal, wood, beds, or anything she could get her hands on to scare the crap out of us. Besides Sydney's scaring, the ship was actually pretty cool, but it was pretty creepy. The stories were definitely the best and being able to see and hear what happened on and to that ship was great. Once we finished, we loaded the bus and
All students of the Texas A&M International University are very fortunate to have in their facilities a “gem” like the planetarium. The planetarium is located at the Lamar Bruni Vergara building and is available for current students for educational purposes and sometimes for entertainment purposes. This planetarium consists of eight computers that work simultaneously to provide a 4k image. Considering its technology advancements, this facility is known to be one of the best facilities in South Texas. Regarding courses, this planetarium is incredibly helpful for several classes that the University offers. One of the classes that can benefit the most from this “gem” is the UNIV disaster management course. Images and videos of real-life disasters contribute in a large scale to this course.
As a member that is part of the UC’s Lick Observatory “Planet Hunter Team, I have found a possible planetary system that may contain a planet. From my further research, I discovered that the planet may support life, such as bacteria and plants. After confirming with the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute about intelligent life, I eventually decided to want to discuss intelligent life through a scientific process. I will use the Drake Equation to give us the possibility that intelligent life can emit signals to reveal any existence. The equation is given as N= R* x fp x ne x fl x fi x fc x L. The calculations of each variables will help me understand what is being contributed into calculating the chance of any signals being detected and the calculated result will determined the conclusion of intelligent life existing. Nevertheless, this is just an estimation for the possibility of any life as the Drake Equation may or may not be as reliable as we may expect it to be.
The day was sunny and clear. We walked through the cool Chicago wind, bracing ourselves against it. Throughout the day we explored the city, visiting the Sears Tower, Navy Pier, and the Field Museum. I even got you to step out onto the Skydeck, despite your fear of heights. I dozed off on your shoulder on the train ride back home, dreaming about how great you had made my sixteenth birthday.
One day, after school on May 31st, my mom and dad sat my sister and I down in the living room. At first I thought “ what's going on, who passed away, did something bad happened, what'd I do wrong” not until my Mom finally said, “Girls, we’re taking a trip to West Palm Beach Florida this week.”
Mercury, named after the Roman God of Thievery, Commerce, and Travel, is the first planet from the Sun. It is unique because it shows at both morning rise and evening set of the sun. It is rocky, heavily cratered, covered in boulders, and also pulverized dust. The majority of it's surface bears a strong resemblance to that of Earth's moon. It's lack of atmosphere causes wild temperature fluctuations. Temperatures can range from 90 kelvin to 700 kelvin thus creating a planet, from all observations, that cannot sustain life--it is geologically dead. Mercury also has a magnetic field generated by the planet's core that can deflect solar wind and which has a magnetosphere that changes. This was surprising for such a slow rotating planet--one that rotates completely every 88 Earth days.
We were leaving Louisville because Chicago was one of the top cities for art, with dozens of diverse art museums (such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, DePaul Art Museum), and 2017 was public art year of Chicago. My group, Farrah, Natalie and myself, greatly achieved our goal to appreciate those art. We had to change some schedule on Tuesday because our flight from Louisville to Chicago O’Hare delayed several hours due to the heavy snow weather in Chicago through Monday and Tuesday. However, overall, we did almost we were planning beforehand.
This was the trip our third grandchild had been waiting to happen for a year and one for which Guy and I had been in training and conditioning mode. We would first go to Legoland (3 days, but one would have been enough), then to the Kennedy Space Center, and from there to Disney’s Animal Kingdom (stayed at the lodge for three nights), and end at Disney’s Hollywood Studio. We knew the Disney part would be a “killer” because we had been there with the entire family four years prior when we were in better shape. We once again walked the same paths, saw the same animals, and stood in the same lines (although I caught on to Fast Pass+ quickly). Joseph remembered very little of his last trip, so it was all new to him. The memories were too fresh for us.
