Chivalry Has A Value In Today's World

In two stories there is a code that knights follow. Chivalry is the code that they follow. The code says that a knight should be a brave warrior, a good christian, and selflessly fighting for justice. The knights are supposed to fight for their king and queen. In the stories Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and from Morte d’Arthur they show the idea about chivalry.

Chivalry is defined as “the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code” (Oxford). During medieval times, those who received an immense amount of recognition were the ones who abided by the code of chivalry. These were the people who earned respect from other by giving it themselves. For example, when jousting, or fighting another knight, men were still to uphold a respect in regards to social status towards their opponent. It is fascinating that the worlds of the past and present are not as different as one may fathom. Societies in the past had a code that noblemen must follow in order to maintain their status as a hero. In modern day society, we too follow the same general code that makes up heroes. If the knights of the modern day did not follow the code of chivalry to some degree, society would no longer have heroes at all. Is giving knights a code a good thing? Chivalry is something that is very important in both of these stories. For the simple fact is because this is a code for knights and both stories have knights and both of them have a king they need to protect no matter what. It also gives the king a look at who actually follows this code and who is the bravest, loyal, or even has the strongest heart. I do think that chivalry still exists today. There are still many people in the world who exhibit all these traits in their daily life styles. I asked my mother and she said that she also believes that chivalry still exists today. She believes that it still exists because she has met many people who still show these traits.
