Christianity, Islam, and Judaism represent the three most influential religions in the world throughout history. Judaism is, however, not as widespread as both Islam and Christianity, but it still has a profound impact in the world. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are also known as the "Abrahamic religions" because their history is traced to the ancient individual, Abraham who is first referred to in the Hebrew Bible. There are many similarities as well as some differences between these religions, even regarding death and the afterlife. These differences are seen with regards mainly to be written in the Judaism, Islam and Christian Holy books. In some cases, it is found, however, Islam refers to details which are not present in the earlier traditions so comparison cannot be made. In both the Judaic and Christian teachings, there is a lot of information regarding the afterlife and this has led to many scholars creating many hypotheses as well as speculations about death and what is to be expected in the afterlife. Islam also gives many details pertaining to what will take place after death. In the Christian religion, there is a straightforward dualistic conception of existence which is the body and soul. At death, the non-physical soul separates from the physical body, however there is also different perspectives. (Segal 2010, p24).
