In 1364, Christine de Pizan was born in Venice, Italy to her Father Tommaso di Benvenuto da Pizzano a court astrologer for France’s King Charles V, which granted Christine access to a library and her mother which is not named. At the court, in which her father worked, Christine learned different subjects such as Latin and Greek which was provided by an extensive library. The libraries allowed her to delve into great literature which made education a Dominic topic for her. Although education had been restricted on account of gender and her mother disapproved of academic learning for females her father still encouraged her to study which made the court library her university. Prior to and throughout the late middle ages, women have been portrayed in literature as vile and corrupt. During this time, Christine de Pizan became a well educated woman and counteracted the previous notions of men’s slander against women. With her literary works, Pizan illustrated to her readers and women that though education they can aspire to be something greater than what is written in history. Through the use of real historical examples, Christine de Pizan’s, The Book of the City of Ladies, acts as a defense against the commonly perceived notions of women as immoral.
A critical point in European history was the Renaissance period, which took place between 1300-1700. The term Renaissance stands for ‘rebirth’, and in this context refers to the increased interest that was taken in learning from Greek and Roman classical writing. Recent exploration by historians into the Renaissance period has seen a fixation on the discussion of the role of gender during the Renaissance. A variety of historians, such as Joan Kelly and Merry E. Weisner, believe that women didn’t experience any form of a Renaissance during this period. It can be widely acknowledged that during this period society did experience a ‘rebirth’, especially in terms of the role of the men in Europe. Women, on the other hand, weren’t as fortunate.
Queen Esther Julia Kapiolani Napelakapuokakae, other known Queen Kapiolani, was born on December 31,1834 in Hilo, Hawaii, and died on June 24, 1899 in Waikiki. She was married to David Kalakaua and both of them changed Hawaii. Isabellas parents taught her the important lessons of politics and government starting at a young age and that women can be leaders just like men,“Her parents believed in schooling their daughters equally to their sons, and she received an education not frequently afforded women”.(Brooklyn Museum,1). Julia Alvarez is an acclaimed American-Dominican poet and author. She has written many successful books and poems, many of which reflect directly on her life and personal experiences. Because of Alvarez’s American-Dominican background, her poems display diverse, cultural themes. These include what it is like to be American and Dominican and the struggles of moving from the Dominican Republic to the United States. Alvarez has received praise for her ability to write a wide variety of styles, including poems, children's books, young adult novels, and essays. Her success, however, has come from her poetry collections, like Homecoming. These collections show her life in the Dominican Republic and her transition to the United States.

In 2017 at a high school gym you could walk in and see girls and playing sports such as basketball, volleyball, tennis etc. But back in the 1960s you weren't able to see girls playing those sports in a high school gym. Not not only because they they weren't interested, it's because they weren't able to play by the law of women's rights.

The school I went to was In Hampton Virginia. My tribe was Ho-chunk. I was known for paintings and illustration. Some paintings I did was big land, or people together, or my tribe. I was famous because of my paintings. The paintings I did were so good I became a Famous Native American.
An unlikely candidate to dispute the unfair, misogynistic treatment of women by men and society, Christine de Pizan successfully challenged the accepted negative views that were being expressed about women by the all-male literary world of her era. Part of Christine’s uniqueness stems from the time in which she lived, the middle to late 1300’s. The lack of a positive female role model to pattern herself after made Christine a true visionary in the fight for the equal rights of women. Her original ideas and insight provided a new and more intelligent way to view females. Pizan’s work, The Book of the City of Ladies, provided women much needed guidance in how to survive without the support of a man.
In this paper I will discuss the popular views concerning women’s nature and status in society and how this affected their education. I will mention what women learned and how; what kinds of institutions were accessible to what types of women. Men’s education will be briefly mentioned in places. My main concern though, is not education in general. Through this paper I shall attempt to explain how Catholicism made it easier for women to acquire an education, but at the same time present the restrictions it imposed upon them.
Since Florence and her sister did not go to school they were tutored by their father, he taught them mathematics, history, and many different languages, Latin, Greek, German,Italian, and French. He taught them because he could not find a tutor with logical skill and expertise which he demanded constantly. He let a governess teach them only music and drawing.
