It was four days before when Christmas, Doug Walker turned on the radio to listen to the local traffic while he dressed for work. He listened as the announcer discussed a miracle in their small town, “Parents are in an uproar trying to convince their children Santa Claus doesn’t grant everyone’s Christmas’ wish. No one can explain the perfect gifts found on front porches all over the city.” Turning up the radio, Doug called out, “Hey, Nancy, did you hear about the ‘nutty’ things happening around here?”
When she entered the room, he switched stations, trying to find the beginning of the news. Doug stopped when he heard the announcer say, “This morning, around 7:00 police received a call that something bizarre was going on at June Hick’s home on Walnut Street. Arriving at the residence, the officers found several neighbors gathered in the living room, trying to determine who left an envelope filled with cash taped to their screen door. Although June Hicks and her young daughter, Annie lived alone, she didn’t hear anything during the night.” Turning off the radio, Doug left for work.

When Annie heard about the money, she began jumping up and down, shouting, “Momma, Santa Claus granted my wish, now grandma can spend Christmas with us.” Filled with excitement, she explained, “I wrote a letter to Santa telling him that you work two jobs to pay our bills and buy food. Grandma is old, sick and alone. We miss her so much. Would he please bring her to Rockdale for
Imagine a staged production of A Christmas Carol set in 1843. See the stage set in the exact time it was written by Charles Dickens. The foggy, crowded streets abuzz with carolers and shoppers, the children staring wide eyed into the shops and bakeries. Hear the bells ringing as a round of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” fills the gaslit streets with joy. As a child, going to see A Christmas Carol was one of my fondest Christmas memories. To witness Scrooge 's’ transformation from a mean, greedy old man to a joyous, loving benefactor always left me smiling and filled me with hope.
Some of these may be very scary and some may only be mildly scary. It
It is curious that as children, humans have the ability to observe and remember details of specific situations and instances yet lack the ability to describe them. Truman Capote, as a grown man, took advantage of his vivid memories and composed the short work, "A Christmas Memory." The story begins in late November, a month symbolic of all the years gone by that Capote could remember beginning preparations for Christmas fruitcakes.
Each ghost marks an important step in Scrooge’s journey towards being a better person. Explain
A Christmas Carol In a Christmas Carol, Dickens uses some of his past childhood experiences to show us that Christmas is very important and many messages come across in this book. It is split up into five ‘staves.’ The reason that they are staves instead of chapters as staves are used in music and it is called a Christmas ‘carol.’
Scrooge plunged into his grave, down he vamoosed into the abyss of which was his own. CRACK, it seemed like it was all just a dream a myth, imagination, nightmare all just fantasy.Scrooge was happy as a little donkey on a summer day that yells out “i'm still alive”. As he wandered what day it was, he darted his way out his window and spotted a young man dragging his sled. “Hey what’s today” Scrooge said, “eh” says the young man,”whats today my fine fellow”said Scrooge with a happy chuckle.”Why it’s Christmas day”, “the spirits did it all in one night said Scrooge. Scrooge told the boy if he would go the poulterers shop down a street and buy a big prize turkey, come back in less than five minutes and i'll give you half a crown! The boy ran as fast as he can to the shop, Scrooge threw himself down the stairs and greeted Mrs.Dimber a merry Christmas.
The Ghost of Christmas is most responsible for fixing Scrooge’s tattered personality. These were the words in my heart when I concluded reading A Christmas carol. The ghost of the Christmas present showed Scrooge that the salary that he thought was bountiful, was actually forcing the Cratchits to live in poverty. The Ghost of Christmas past also showed Scrooge that even in poor times Christmas can be celebrated. The Cratchits didn’t have an expensive meal, it was all they could afford.Despite how poor they were it was a great meal, not because of the price but because their happiness and satisfaction. It wasn’t about the money, because happiness can’t be bought. The Ghost informed Scrooge that if Tiny tim would die if he didn’t have further medications. As a result to Scrooge begged and pleaded to the Ghost to have mercy on the naïve boy.The ghost of christmas present warmed Scrooge’s heart on the right spot, because he knew that Scrooge was a good soul in a cold heart.
Gravel crunched beneath the tires of my father’s ’95 Chevy Silverado, the same way it had every time we drove up the steep, tortuous path to my grandmother’s home on Christmas Eve. There she was waving excitedly, dressed in her floral nightgown and fuzzy slippers as the snow floated downward around her. She corralled us inside away from the cold. Like I was as light as the snowflakes just beyond the door, she lifted me up into her arms. I laid my head against her chest as she guided my father and me into the living room adorned with wreaths and candles. I closed my eyes and inhaled the aroma of peppermint and freshly baked cookies as my grandmother held me tight. Lights from the glistening tree illuminated the room in red and green.
Sometimes a non-fiction book can have relative applications and stories in it, but a fiction book can achieve the same purpose with adding some exaggeration to further support the meaning of the story. The Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens, is a fiction story, but it contains a lot of meaning to the outlook on life. The battle between the flesh and the soul adds emphasis on the morals of the human being. Developing the story is an important aspect as well, whether the development is in the conflict, within the characters or the resolution. Inside the conflict, the conflict can either be internal or external. External being the fight between two men, and internal being the conflict within yourself. The Conflict in The Christmas Carol

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom,” Marcel Proust said. This quote suggests how being grateful for the people that you feel close to, will make you feel happier. A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote takes place during the Great Depression in a small Southern town. A seven year old boy named Buddy, and his friend are hit by the Great Depression. They do not have very many possessions, only basic necessities. The holidays are right around the corner so Buddy and his friend decide to make fruit cakes for all of their friends, even though they do not have much. They end up not having much money to get each other something for Christmas. In the end, they both decide that having each other is enough, and that they’re both very grateful for one other. One lesson that is taught in the story, is that often, people tend to only be grateful for materialistic things. However, in this story they’re grateful for one another. Similarly, in the short story The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry expresses the same theme of gratefulness through the development of the character traits and character conflicts. Both stories show that being grateful for the people that you feel close to, will make you feel happier.
Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. I love seeing the shinny Christmas lights that decorates my street and the sound of fresh fallen snow on the ground. Christmas reminds me of family, the laughter and loved we shared, and the gifts we gave to each other. My house on Christmas became the center of my joy.
For any generation, since the birth of America, over the years, immigration has been a fluctuating staple at the core of her history. Choosing A Dream, written by Mario Puzo on July 11, 1999, depicts a poor immigrant Italian boy in the Neapolitan ghetto of New York with his dreams of becoming an artist. Despite all the obstacles and restrictions imposed by his status of a son of immigrant parents, he succeeds at his endeavor of becoming a writer. In Christmas Story: The Loudest Voice, written by Grace Paley and posted on December 30, 2015, Shirley Abramowitz, the daughter of Jewish immigrants to America, recounts the memory of her narrating the Christmas play in school. Both stories are written in first person, from the point of view of two children immigrants forced to adapt to American society; As such, we will compare and contrast their similarities and differences during their integration into this new mesh of social disparity and the way American culture had heterogeneous effects on one and the other.
I think Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays. Maybe because of the special atmosphere that you can feel everywhere, in shops, restaurants , pubs and even streets, where you can hear the magical carols, or maybe it's because of its religious background, but what I can tell you for sure is that I can't think of anything more exciting than the image of the entire family preparing the Christmas Tree or fixing the Christmas dishes.
