Christmas Break Narrative

Growing up, people always hear about how they never know when their time will be up, how they could die in a matter of seconds, how nobody could possibly predict the actual time or cause of his or her death. Only God himself is the holder of the knowledge of this inevitable, fearful event. It only took me 15 years to realize exactly how true this theory actually is. At only 15 years old, I witnessed what most people hope to never experience—death.
Going into Christmas break, I was eager to go on a hunting trip that had been planned for almost a year. Being from the deep South, I had never witnessed an area so cold. The temperatures dropped to levels below freezing that week in Northern Mississippi. Going to the deer stand, all I could think about was trying to defrost in hope to regain feeling in my toes that were now completely numb. Hours passed by in the brisk wind with no action; suddenly, a loud bang echoed through the woods. It was surely a gunshot from someone else on the trip.
I patiently waited for my friends to come pick me up, so they could deliver the news as to whether they had killed a deer. When they arrived, I was excited to hear them say that they had shot a buck. They said that it was too dark to …show more content…

Eager and hopeful, I rushed to put it around my chest and braced for my last shot of survival. With all their strength, they tugged on the rope, moving me inch by inch out of the treacherous waters and onto dry land. Trying to find my footing, I hobbled back to the four-wheeler bundling in all of the clothing I could acquire. I was rushed back to the camp where a warm shower was waiting for me. It took at least 10 minutes idling in the steaming water to finally regain feeling in my toes and fingers as they tingled when the warm water hit them. Realizing that I was going to be okay, I jumped out the shower to put on dry clothes to go express my gratitude to my friends for saving
