Promote an individual’s independence | This could be done by support stepping back more so that the individual is doing more by themselves – For example if you know they are able to take their shopping to the till and pay independently then step back and let them do it. | Support informed choices | Individuals could choose activities in advance so that is not purely what choices that member of staff gives them on that day, and choices should always be recorded. | Improve quality of life | More outdoor group trips together, this could be good for their confidence and help improve social skills, this also makes for a happy environment in the work place. |

Case Study
Choose an individual you work with and undertake the following activities for that person, remembering to make any reference to the individual anonymous.
1. Identify a new activity for the individual. Assess the levels of help the individual would need to participate in the new activity. I will be taking an individual to do work experience at Fairfield farm college in the café, kitchen and shop. OJ is quite independent when cooking but will need support with communication as he will be given tasks from the members of staff at the college. OJ also does not understand all of the risks of working in a kitchen and sometimes finds it amusing to mess around, not knowing that he could hurt himself. OJ is also sensitive to sound and there

People should always be involved and in control of any development of their life and should be discussed with them throughout ensuring that they understand both the gain they will receive as well as any risks involved. Support should be given when and where needed, this could be anything from encouragement and motivation through to equipment to help them. When equipment is provided it is essential that someone who knows how to use this equipment shows them how to use and work it to receive the best benefit from it to a level where they understand clearly and fully.

Social support- The helpful coping resources provided by friends and other people that people needs support from either their family or friends that it helps against stress. When identifying the appropriate person for an activity in the workplace there are several aspects you have to take into account. First you need to consider what the task is and what is required to complete it. Once that is established, you can start thinking about which person is best suited to carry out the task. You need to think about whether they have the knowledge, skills and experience to carry the task out, or whether they need training and support. If they need training and support, you need to consider whether this is a one off task or a reoccurring task, to see whether it is worth the investment in training and support. You also need to consider whether you have time to provide this training and support or whether it would be quicker for you or someone else to carry out the activity. Another aspect to consider is workloads and who has time and is available to carry out the activity. In some cases you might need to redistribute workloads in order to free up a person’s time or to reprioritise their workload. A person’s attitude and willingness also needs to be considered because if they are not keen on carrying out the activity, it could have an impact on time and quality of the outcome. All these aspects add up to how much you trust the person to carry out the activity. Some
I don’t think you should only look at family support as the only preventive strategy because there are many other preventive strategies you could try like mindfulness exercises. Stress also isn’t the only measure of depression. There are many causes and symptoms to depression according to the DSM-5. I like the topic of studying more then one preventive strategy would be more beneficial then only looking at family support.
